2019 #8 Put a Brush on it: Literally with JoFY {by Gabrielle Price}

2019 Topic 8: Put a Brush On It

Cracked paint, texture, rust and shades of patina. Sounds like the perfect combination to me! I'm sure you'll agree! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Gabrielle from Crafty Thoughts with you today, and I'd like to share with you two projects that took the brief very literally!

I have been reading a fascinating book about Monet's work and love his use of colours. I wanted to create using his colour palette and sense of texture - and what better way to do this than with Fresco paints!

I 'borrowed' a very old paintbrush from my dad and knew from the wear on the handle that I was going to turn it into a flower stem. When the basic background was in place I used finger painting to add the next layers - well, I did have a big brush I was going to put on it as a focal point!

Building layers and layers of paint and bringing the Grunge Paste stencilling (PS108) to the fore, or knocking them back, was huge fun. Fresco Paints can be found here, or source your local supplier from any 'new product' announcement here on the PaperArtsy Blog.

I used a tip from Seth Apter and started with a black base, building to a lighter finish. I normally find I sand my work at some point so I actually put my sander in a box so I wasn't tempted on this project!

The background stamp was from JOFY25 and the flower head was made from JOFY09.

I stencilled the leaves (PS023) and then added lots of small layers of paint (Limelight, Hey Pesto and Granny Smith) to add shadows and highlights.

I then used the same wonderful colours JOFY09 stamps and stencil to create a new spread in my flashcard book (if you look carefully you can still see the words!) to create a vintage flower garden. I painted the flowers with the thinest paintbrush in the world (well, in my studio!)

I know we've encouraged you in this topic to use paintbrushes with the fabulous Fresco Acrylic Paints but why not have a go using your fingers to paint? Especially if you have Grunge Paste details as it allows you get some really cool effects! Oh! And you don't have to wash your brushes afterwards!

Thank you for joining me!

2018 #10 Paper Dolls: Journal Prompts with Gel Prints {by Gabrielle Price}

2018 Topic 10: Paper Dolls

A beautiful post from Gabrielle tonight, she is a wonder with pops of colour in her backgrounds, and she has framed her dolls with Emma's pocket journalling frames perfectly! makes me itch to go and play with my stamps and paints! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's (Gabrielle from Crafty Thoughts) with you today, and I'd like to share with you my journal prompts. This is a fabulous way to use those teeny paper dolls that get left in the bottom of the packet!

I often mock up journal pages because I like to have an idea of how finished pages might look and also it makes it easier to journal on the go... I can just take the things I need for that page meaning I pack a little more smartly (who am I kidding? I still take most of my Studio...!)

The basis for all journal pages is the background and I am somewhat addicted to my gel plate. The myriad of different backgrounds you can create using the same paint colours consistently astounds me! For this project I used my favourite colours - Bougainvillea, Caribbean Sea, Banana, Teresa Green, lots of Snowflake and a little Slate.

I have found that by laying a colour and then adding a layer of Snowflake I create less confused backgrounds.

 PaperArtsy Stencil 001 (PS001)

PaperArtsy Stencil 0021 (PS021)

 PaperArtsy Stencil 023 (PS023)

I love using stencils on all my projects (such as PS001, PS021, PS023) and watching the project come alive. The lovely thing is to see are pops of Slate as you only need a small amount to bring the whole page alive!

I stamped six backgrounds from some of my favourite Emma Godfrey plates (Emma Godfrey 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 11) and mounted them on scored black card.

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 01 (EEG01)

The joy of Emma's stamps are the sayings/ words which can be added together (or cut apart!) to make an endless supply of phrases.

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 02 (EEG02)

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 03 (EEG03)

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 04 (EEG04)

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 05 (EEG05)

Eclectica³ Emma Godfrey Set 11 (EEG11)

This was such fun trying to match the doll with appropriate backgrounds and sayings!

I hope you will make something with those teeny figures left in the packet of paper dolls. They are perfect to make small projects - such as mini versions of larger projects just like mine!

I've loved sharing my project with you, thank you for joining me.

NEW {Zinski Art} with Gabrielle Price

I Need Cake by Gabrielle Price

Tonight we have another take on how to use Elena's stamps from Gabby. I love to see people create outside the normally accepted methods. Today, Gabrielle has done exactly that with a bold background, and she's kept the focal images a tad more subdued by not applying a load of colour to them. This is the exact opposite of what most people do with Zinskis. And of course, being the creative genius she is, they still pop magnificently off the background - what an awesome idea!

First a quick reminder of Elena's new stamps...

Zinski Minis (we call them Zinis)
{ 8 credit card sized stamps: ZN09, ZN10, ZN11, ZN12, ZN13, ZN14, ZN15, ZN16 }

Hi everyone, Gabrielle here to show you an idea with Elena's brand new stamps she has designed for PaperArtsy.

I love the quirky hand drawn images Elena draws and this new release has some really cute characters that I think will inspire us all for a long time - from the coquettish Zinis 13 to the 'it wasn't me' Zinis 11 - but I definitely think Zinis 15 knows it was him!!!

I am currently experimenting a lot with black and white images on a coloured background, or vice versa. I made two projects with these amazing stamps - this one has a background made from about 30 layers of paint which gives a  textured stucco feel - the striking images from ZA13 mean they really stand out from the background. I loved the lamppost but thought it might make an interesting stalk - juxtaposing a long stem with tiny flowerheads.

I love how the girl is standing - she looks 'planted' in this garden - like she's refusing to move until she gets some cake. I think we all have days like that!

I couldn't resist my LGM (Little Green Man) and his hat house - so by making these very colourful I could use Black Knight Infusions to create the background. The LGM has a fabulous large head which would look great swopped on the bodies of the other stamps - I think I'd like to experiment with this idea next - for those of us who remember - think Worzel Gummage! I love the 'stones' stamp - very, very useful for those of us who like journalling! Oh! And the huge hat roof could fit the LGM as a hat - so I shall definitely doing this!

There are three 'hanging' stamps and I put two together and added two fragments as if they were picture frames - this idea sparked lots of others. I can imagine these stamped several times and used as a tiled background. Especially combined with the stones stamp!

This new release has lots of choice for us - from large images for a focal point to smaller ones that can be used for backgrounds. Better than that there's so many options to mix and match, between stamps sets and by swopping parts of stamps around that the uses are endless!
