2020 #6 Jungle Vibes: A World Of Her Own with LPC {by Autumn Clark}

2020 Topic 6: Jungle Vibes

The creative mind knows no bounds and can look beyond the obvious to imagine something much more. Autumn has taken to re-imagining to another level. Sea plants to jungle vines and leaves into lush jungle. What a wonderful spectacle!
~ Keren & Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Autumn Clark from SewPaperPaint with you today, and I'd like to share with you my vintage modern makes for our current In the Jungle topic.

More than the actual theme of Jungle, I wanted to convey a feeling, that of escape.  My projects were inspired by a quote from PaperArtsy Eclectica³ {Alison Bomber} Collection EAB07, "She is in a world of private dreams, and not with us." by Charlotte Bronte.  During these stressful times in which we live, one must find an escape from thoughts to dreams...

My focus stamp set was PaperArtsy {Lynne Perrella} Collection LPC046.  This image is quite profound, expressing fully the jungle that our minds can become if we do not take time for creative escape.  Yet even in the  messy weeds, flowers can still bloom.  There is always hope!

Now how to convey those feelings through art...  First, I really wanted a modern pop of pink against my greenery, so I turned to Fresco Chalk Acrylic in Blush and painted some textured watercolor panels.  I really love the feminine vibe this took the whole project.  For my soft green I used Distress Oxide in Evergreen Bough.

I watercolored my faces and a flower from PaperArtsy Eclectica³ {Gwen Lafleur} Collection ELG05.  I brought in some warmer tones to compliment the skintones.

I love how the seaweed gives the illusion of movement in the background!  It is from one of my favorite stamp sets ever, PaperArtsy Eclectica³ {Scrapcosy} Collection ESC10.

I hope these cards will be an encouragement to some artsy friends when they receive them in the mail.  Now's the time to send those magical creations to those we love, wouldn't you agree?

What kind of fantastical hideaway could you strum up to get out of your head for a while?  An undersea terrain or a glimpse between the stars?  I've turned seaweed into vines and magnolia leaves into jungle covering.  What spin could your stamps take?  It was really fun for me to flip through my stamp sets and try to see them in a new way and I know it will be for you too!  Until next time...
Hugs, Autumn

2020 #6 Jungle Vibes: The Zebra Men with I&D {by Keren Baker}

2020 Topic 6: Jungle Vibes

We all know Keren is extremely good at thinking outside the box, and her Zebra-men might be more likely found on an open field that in a jungle, but top o the class and 10/10 for ingenuity! The layers in the frame of painted patterns topped with leafy stamps is such a clever touch, just onbe of many in this post!

Hi everyone, it's Keren Baker with you today, and I'd like to share with you a project about some rugby playing guys that embody exactly the best of what's happening in the world today.

I wanted to just do some simple layered stamping and to make a fun frame. I'll set the scene. Take yourself back to Watford, London in the 1930's. There was a Rugby League team called the Watford Warriors. They were a great team, but struggled with winning..

I've used mostly Ink & The Dog stamps for this project but needed some tiny type. So I added in one of the most versatile alphas from Emma Godfrey's EEG02 set.

I just love rows of different coloured letters. Makes creating your own sentiments so easy!

Onto my colour scheme. I wanted something bright with a mix of greens to give the jungle feel. These 3 colours  Slimed, Sargasso and Cerise are all colours from Tracy Scott's Fresco collection.

To give the jungle vibe without it being too literal, I used these wonderful fur pattern images from Ink & The Dog Travel 1 and Travel 3.

Back to the story. They were nick-named the Zebra Men because of their black and white striped rugby shirts. Urban legend had it that the manager's grandmother once washed their beautiful white shorts with the red 'away kit', which proved slightly embarrassing (hence why I've painted them pink!) but they reckon this also gave rise to one of their few victories as their shorts were so off-putting! You can see the frame that I over-stamped with another Ink & The Dog set as it looks like the dense foliage you might find in the jungle.

Despite the fact that the team rarely won, that wasn't what kept them showing up. They were a team, they depended upon each other and they encouraged each of their friends when they found it hard and wanted to give up. It was comradeship and it was the beautiful bonds created when friends stick together through thick and thin.

I'd love to tell you that perseverance alone won the day and they were league champions. I can't, but what was distinctive about the band of brothers was they kept showing up. Again and again and again. The destination wasn't a trophy, it was faithfulness and being dependable. Commitment to each other gets you far. Learning those lessons about who you are and who you want to become.

Before we leave these fearless friends, I had a Fresco paint stamped image going spare. I just love that the quality and detail of the rubber stamps is amazingly picked out by the superb Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic paints.

I over-stamped the image with another Ink & Dog stamp (which is one of my favourites!).

plus I have to show the wonderful 'zebra men' too.

I've used the tiny alphas from the original set (and forgive me for the ear-worm coming), I couldn't help but think of the High School Musical song 'We're all in this together'. Both these pieces are just so redolent of the situation we find ourselves in.

We are required to be more flexible than most of us have ever been (even that 'no.3' above had to be flexible enough to become an 'E'!). We might have to forego our freedoms in a small way for the sake of both our family, friends, community and wider world.

Wherever we live currently, this ongoing challenge affects us all. We can choose to be taken along with it, or keep going and make changes in our attitude and behaviour to see this as a chance to show friendship, service to others and creativity in our lives. I'm not dismissing or downplaying tragedy, only reminding myself to keep showing up and that we're all in this together. I hope being creative can partially help us all to do that.

P.S. Forgive me, there were never any Watford Warriors, but I reckon there were lots of teams who would have fitted perfectly into this imagined story!

2020 #6 Jungle Vibes: Pretty in Pink with EDY {by Carol Fox}

2020 Topic 6: Jungle Vibes

Carol's well chosen quote could have been penned for so many of us. Her page is a collection of wonderful details. Check out that fab Grunge Paste foliage and the bird with gigantic dreams!
~ Keren

Hi everyone, it's Carol with you today, and I'd like to share with you a Journal page. I have gone for colours with my Jungle vibe. Using dark greens with a hint of blue sky and pink sunsets peeping through on the background.
Darcy's little bird sits at the bottom having flown in from foreign lands, and after passing a flock of Flamingos on the way she is now dreaming of being a Flamingo herself.

The finished page with my Wannabe Flamingo perched among the leaves.

A quick bit of dry brushing with Khaki, Sage and Lawn to get some colour on my page.

Starting to add layers with stencil PS126 using Marbles and Bubble Gum.

More layers with Haystack and PS036

Adding a bit of Homemade washi tape, this was left over from a previous project.

Using Snowflake and PS046 to blend it all together a bit.

I stamped and coloured Darcy's stamp EM12 using black Archival ink and blended Bubble Gum and Prawn with my brush as I went.

My quote is from ZA08 and is stamped onto homemade washi tape and cut up to suit the layout of my page.

I used the large text from HP1304 and green archival ink to add a darker green to my background before adding Grunge Paste mixed with Jade through stencil PS075

I now stitched around my page before adding it to my journal. (I work loose leaf as I like to stitch and this saves the page underneath getting wrecked.) Once stuck down I felt it needed a bit more darkness so I used the leaf stem from ELB29 and dark green archival ink to add this.

I finished it all with a quick rub of green ink over the dried Grunge paste and a Splatter with Bubble Gum paint.

I personally think a quote can make or break a journal page and can also take it in the direction that you want.

I was a bit stumped for a quote on this but then I found the Zinski one and it just seemed to perfectly reflect what my little bird wanted to say. None of my images used are jungle themed but I hoped with the pink and the combined quote it would hopefully relay what I was thinking. This theme did push me out of my comfort zone with the choice of stamps to use, but it was fun and it does show that any type of stamp can be twisted to anything especially with a well chosen quote.

I hope you enjoyed my post, and I can be found at the following places.
