Geometric Patterns with ESA New minis {by Nikki Acton}

Hi everyone, Nikki (a2a.craft) with you today.

Last week saw the release of new mini stamps designed by Seth Apter and I have the pleasure of creating with them today. I have had fun playing with the eight stamps featuring various marks and patterns.

These mini's are great for adding a little bit of visual texture to your backgrounds or, as I have done, use them as the focus for your journal page, tag or card.

I am normally quite thoughtful over colour selections - but not today. This selection was quite random for me me, although there is an emphasis on my blue / green favourites! The colours used are: Fresco Chalk Acrylics in Sargasso (FF135), Mulled Wine (FF145), Parakeet (FF225), Purple Rain (FF105), Azure (FF187) and Chalk (FF83).

You can see all the new Eclectica Mini's by Seth Apter - EM121, EM122, EM123, EM124, EM125, EM126, EM127 and EM128 here.

I began with my gel plate as I wanted to make some papers for collage that featured the stamps. I stamped both onto the gel plate with paint and also having added paint to the gel plate 'stamped off'.

Here you can see a print where I started with just paint on the gel plate, quickly stamped off leaving the print impression. Once dry I added Fresco Acrylic paint in Chalk, before lifting the print.

I stamped onto my gel plate with 3 different stamps and three colours for this one. I let this dry before adding Chalk paint and lifted the print.

I carried on 'playing' - remembering to create some single colour prints..... these always come in handy for layering.

Now to create some patterns.....

I did three panels - all to fit on a 6 x 6 inch (15x15 cm) panel or card base. This first one used the Sargasso (blue / green) and Mulled Wine (dark red) gel prints.

I sketched out a layout so I knew what size to cut my pieces.

Having drawn it - I was able to use this to mark lines on the prints to get the correct angles. (There are imperfections when I do this, but with some inking of edges and a trim around the outside border - you hardly notice).

I used Ranger Archival ink in black to ink my edges and stamp the centre panel using EM125.

To finished I stamped and cut strips of the diamonds from EM121.

My second panel is a little simpler and features lots of triangles using one of the gel prints and some simple sponged backgrounds.

I used EM124 and EM125 stamping using archival ink.

The design is 4 triangles to make a square with smaller triangles added on top.

I added some layered circles down the centre diagonal featuring EM126.

The last of the three features the multicoloured, multi stamp gel print I highlighted above.

I cut some long trapezium shaped pieces from the print featuring each of the stamps used (EM123, EM124, EM127).

I layered each of these onto the single colour prints that match the paints used for stamping - Azure and Sargasso.

For the base I took another gel print and added some more visual texture using EM128 (letters image, stamped in archival) and EM124 (dots, stamped in Fresco Chalk Acrylic in Chalk).

The focal point was created using the letter 'X' from PaperArtsy stamp set ESA 21 (by Seth Apter).
