Hi everyone, it's Chris here with you today to share my card on this fortnight's theme of 'eyes'. I didn't have an idea for my project initially, I just knew that the plain petal shape from Ellen Vargo's stamp set EV009 was eye shaped so that was my starting point. As soon as the stamp set arrived and I could see the size of the petal stamp the idea came of the Eye of Horus (also known as a wedjat eye) as I knew I could build pattern around it and I've seen lots of variations of this symbol of protection in the British Museum, in artworks etc., it's popular for tattoos as well.

It was satisfying to be able to use all the stamps in the set, once I started I could see the possibilities and one of the pattern circles, the one with the radiating lines made sense to be used as the iris of the eye. As always though I started with the background, it somehow gets the creative juices flowing. 

As you'll see from the main project photo, once dry my card bent a little due to using a bit of wet glue with the hessian sheet but I can pop it under something heavy to sort that out later. I really like the texture the hessian adds and it fits the theme of the card. There's sparkle and shine in there as well with gold sparkle embossing powder and gold paint, they all help to add interest.

Blue Oyster, Blue Lagoon, Bora Bora, Beach Hut, and Gold were my colour choices in Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics

 with Terracotta and Royal Blood Infusions.

Smoothy Heavyweight A4 White Stamping Card is my substrate, it holds up to the paint, infusions and brayering without the surface degrading. 

The stamp press came out so that I could repeat stamp the main feature of the card. As you can see I'm down to a 12" area of desk by this point! :D

I've stamped all the patterned petals over one of my backgrounds and they slotted together very nicely on the (dirty :D) stamp block to cover the background quickly.

Here you can see the layers of the eye. I stamped the plain petal again onto the turquoise background, drew a freehand border around it and cut it out. I stamped the radiating pattern circle over the white petal for iris and pupil and then glued them together.

I continued building a border pattern around the eye after sticking it to the gold background. The patterns are created freehand with a black paint pen and coloured with alcohol markers for ease of colouring the tiny parts of the patterns. A nice pearlescent effect is achieved because the gold paint beneath shows through the transparent markers. The transparent paints in the range could also be used for this step.

The flourish parts under the eye and the blue eyebrow over the eye were freehand cut from the blue background pieces and outlined with black paint pen. 

The stamped areas are coloured with markers outlined and highlighted with paint pen. I added pastel pencil under the eyelid area as well although a true eye of Horus would be completely void of shading in this area and there would be no iris just the black pupil. For some definition I've added black watercolour pen around the eye and the sticker sentiments pulled out with a damp brush.

I doodled quite a bit in white, I find it relaxing and I've added more shimmer with some glitter paper and some perfect pearls around the black border using Seth Apters mini stamp EM44 and Versamark ink, I also used the stamp on the gold background with Blue Oyster paint for more texture.

It's very satisfying to make something completely different from a stamp intended for something else, so this was a very enjoyable make for me. I wonder if you have any stamps in your collection that you could re-purpose to create an eye and join in with us this fortnight, I would love to see what you come up with if you do.

Chris has done a wonderful job of bringing so many products together in this post, stamps (of course) but also Frescos and infusions pair together along with numerous colours of ink. Its a veritable feast for our creative eyes! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Chris with you today to share my projects with Seth's new mini's EM41-48.  I very much admire Seth's art which is all about layering and his new mini's are perfect for making that easy and enjoyable as they all go together so well.

You can create depth and textural interest with the stamps by stamping in different colours and overlaying with black and further down the post you can see how I created my base layers with very quick and easy techniques. 

My first make is a large Birthday Tag. I stamped with all of the stamps over my base layer in various coloured inks and finally with black. 

Outlining some of the stamped images in white pen helps to bring them forward and add interest. Glossy dimensional glue has been added to the die cut letters and on the circles on the focal star from Seth's stamp set ESA03 for extra shine.

I used a couple of Seth's embossing powders to create yet more texture on the die cut scalloped frame and on the wood star embellishments. 

I cut a smaller tag from the same base layer outlined in white and also die cut some stars to add to the painted and glossed wood stars. I cut out the word 'create' from EM42 and used it for my sentiment.

I love the grunginess of some of the mini's in this collection. Stamp EM47 has those lovely grungy lines and will be hard to put down!

Similar to the tag above and using the text 'your story' from MA46.

For this tag, I used the stamps with a gel plate print and the bolder design mini's work particularly well with the gel plate. The words are taken from MA46.

I love the texture you get with mono prints, I used thin brayered layers of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics for this tag.

I like the more feminine colour scheme from the part of the mono print I used for this card, colours tend to get mixed on the gel plate so you can end up with quite a variety of colour schemes which is perfect for batches of tags or cards as they will all be slightly different to each other.

The die cut heart is covered in glossy dimensional glue which I used to highlight areas of most of the samples.

All the ribbons I added were dyed with Infusions; damp the seam binding ribbon, sprinkle with Infusions powders and dry off. 

I started off with a master board base layer adding various complimentary colours of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics with a large brush, a few sprinklings of Infusions and finish with a lighter colour or two on top to bring it all together. This is a nice base for stamping all over with all of the stamps in various colours of ink.

The final touches are stamping in black and some outlining in with fine liner pens.

My second substrate is an easy splatter and squish method! Spatter watered down Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paints Blue Lagoon, Terracotta and Claret on to two sheets of Heavy Weight Smoothy cardstock, smoosh them together paint sides facing, pull apart then allow to dry.

Repeat the process using Infusions in Slime, Royal Blood, Violetta and Olive Tree diluted in water. I stamped in black over these pieces and used for some of my layers and die cuts.

I usually keep a few paints in this little wood crate on my desk, it's patiently been waiting for some colour and pattern and the Mini's are lovely for creating random abstract patterns

I didn't mount the stamps on a block just dabbed on Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics and randomly stamped around the box, overlapping and not thinking about it too much.

As you can see, I enjoyed creating from my substrate pieces and decorating my paint crate which is the beauty of these mini's, they're going to be useful for so many projects and they work together perfectly due to the mix of solid and more delicate images, there are even words in there that can be accentuated or cut out.

Thrilled to finally be able to share with you my newest release with PaperArtsy: 8 mini stamps.

After the release of my very first set of mini stamps in January, I realized just how versatile this size of stamp is. They quickly found their way into my journals, artist books, ATCs and artwork. And happily they are small enough in size (but big in impact) to be able to take them all with me on my art travels.

I knew that I wanted to create a new collection of minis for my latest release and the goal this time was to create a set of stamps that could all be used for developing a layered background but at the same time could each be used as an abstract focal point. Take a look at all the stamps below and tell me how I did.

Today is my turn and and tomorrow you will see how one of the Team PA Bloggers used these stamps. It is always exciting for any designer to see how other artists create with their designs. There will also be many posts on PaperArtsy's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (scroll to the bottom for links). Eclectica³ Mini 41 (EM41)

Who doesn't love a grid? Mini 41 sets the stage for a number of designs in this collection that are grid-based. Here the symbol used is a square - grungy, distressed, incomplete set of them. Used here as a focal point, this stamp can also be used unmounted to add random squares in the background. Or the stamp can be repeatedly used to create a full background. The distressed-nature of the squares also means you can fill them in with color.

Eclectica³ Mini 42 (EM42)

I love text in my artwork and knew that I wanted to include some within this collection. Mini 42 is the first example. Nestled within a grouping of splats, marks, lines and spots is the word CREATE. This stamp can absolutely be used for developing layers and texture in your background - and think of how great this would be heat embossed, but in this piece I decided to make it the focal point and star of the show.

Eclectica³ Mini 43 (EM43)

Mini 43 is the perfect stamp to use as is or to truly make it your own. The stamp is a series of 3 stacked, open rectangles and gives you plenty of open space to add color, your own symbols or text. The rectangles can also be used as a layer in the background and even a portion of the marks themselves would be a cool addition to your layers.

 Eclectica³ Mini 44 (EM44)

I absolutely loved designing Mini 44. Layering the lines and symbols was so much fun. I see this image as a blend of many looks: industrial, grungy, futuristic, mid-century, and more. One of my favorite thing to do with stamps is to make them my own by using only portions of each stamp. And this stamp is perfect for that, as can be seen by the stray parts of the image that found their way into many parts of this artwork. 

Eclectica³ Mini 45 (EM45)

Don't tell the other stamps but this one has to be my favorite. It has circles and Xs - two of my favorite symbols. Plus a whole bunch of other marks too. It has a tribal-feel to it and really stands out from the background. You can easily repeat this pattern, matching up the lines to create an even stronger design. Plus the circles are perfect to fill in with color. I can tell you now that you will be seeing a lot of this stamp in my work.

Eclectica³ Mini 46 (EM46)

Mini 46 is the second stamp of this release to include text - 'TELL YOUR STORY.' I like this one because you can rotate it in any direction to better fit your art. And the message in this stamp is so important as we all have a story to tell. While perfect to use on a journal page, the marks that make up this stamp would also be great additions to a background.

Eclectica³ Mini 47 (EM47)

Back to the grids with Mini 47. There is just something about the symmetry of a grid that appeals to me. But for this collection, the imperfect shapes within the grids make them perfect. This stamp features flattened rectangles and grungy lines. And again, the open spaces within the rectangles are just calling out to be colored in. 

Eclectica³ Mini 48 (EM48)

Last but certainly not least is Mini 48. The grid is filled with my favorite shape - circles. And not just circles but circles surrounded by loops. And I threw in some random dots too. Having the circular shapes in the form of a linear grid adds a dose of contrast that makes the design even more interesting. Once again, this stamp can be used as part of a background but makes a strong statement as an abstract focal point as well.
