Cards and Tags with EGL {by Liesbeth Fidder-de Vos}

Hello everyone, Liesbeth here with you today. 

As soon as I saw this lovely stamp set, I knew I wanted to make some cards this time. The small squares are little paintings in themselves, and they look so beautiful in the grid, without adding much extras. Sleek and clean, perfect!

I used two of the wonderful PaperArtsy Eclectica stamps by Gwen Lafleur: EGL24 and EGL16 .(A great font in a perfect size..and more!) For my techniques I  searched for a series of bright colours and I ended up with PaperArtsy Fresco acrylic paints London Bus, Banana, Slimed, Caribbean Sea, Glass Blue, Berry Nice and Lily the Pink. As a surface I chose the PaperArtsy Smooth card, heavyweight. I love the thickness of it, for my tiny squares

Using the thick smooth cardstock and the paints, I made several backgrounds in different ways. I just played,  it was so much fun and later on  I decided how exactly I was going to use them

It creates a wonderful effect when you use a natural sponge for dabbing the paint

I did this sponge technique with all seven chosen colours paints and created a very colourful marble-like background

And another one: with a small round applicator I ,turned'  three colours of Fresco paint onto the surface

The final one was just painting a kind of rainbow, small stripes applied with a paintbrush

I stamped some of them, and a white paper, with the squares and ticket from stamp set EGL24 wth black waterproof ink. I used Tsukineko StazOn-Jet Black.. At this stage I still don't know exactly how I'm going to use them, but it really inspires me already!

 

To create a bit more interest I heat-embossed some of the small squares with golden embossing powder. I used the three bigger square stamps for it. (EGL24) 

After that I cut out every little square :-)

 

Time to create some cards. As you can see I used the grid stamp just the way it is...I think it's nice to let the tiny square ,paintings' be the focal point and let them shine. So I just glued them onto the stamped grid

I finished this card with layers of white, purple and brayered cardstock. I stamped the beautiful circle from EGL16 onto the brayered paper with yellow ink (Versafine Clair)

Another card: Here I use the painted purple/pink circle background, again with some gold embossed squares. This time I stamped the grid stamp onto one of my brayered backgrounds instead of white

This applies to every card: I sponge all the sides of the small squares with black ink, so that no white is visible anymore at the cutting edges

Here I used the rainbow-painted cardsstock, the small grid stamp and the three bigger squares from PaperArtsy EGL24. I stamped the grid three times onto a white card

The size of the letters from stamp set EGL16 is really perfect for the squares of the 3-compartment grid stamp! I stamped the word ART with three matching colours of Versafine Clair and decorated the cut out squares with a golden gel pen

This card was a bit to clean so I decided to decorate the letters and the grid with the golden gel pen.

These were the techniques I used for all of the cards, I'd love to show you the finished cards and some extra ideas here down below

And again! I also love the fact that the small squares  are not completely equal and straight. A very natural look

Some small tags, a mix of the backgrounds and the techniques I did. For the ,Hug-tag' I used black ink and a white gel pen. 

Who knows more nice three-letter words?? :-)  Someones name will be nice too....Tom, Liz...

For this card I just mixed up the rainbow strips and added three times the nice ticket stamp. I cut it a bit smaller to let it fit perfectly. The letter background of this card is made with one of my brayered backgrounds. I stamped it randomly with some of the letters from EGL16 and yellow and red ink

PaperArtsy EGL16 and EGL24 are great to create all kinds of backgrounds of course, but for this cards I tried to show them just the way they are.

Gift Giving with Tracy Scott products {by Keren Baker}

I'm Keren and delighted to be here with you today.

This year on the blog, we have free rein to do a deep dive into a PaperArtsy product ranges of our choosing. For this post I have been exploring Tracy Scott's gorgeous products. 

The nights are drawing in here in the Northern Hemisphere, and if you're a little like me, the prospect of the upcoming season is making me think about giving gifts and also, what they might look like when we gift them to our loved ones and friends.  

I thought that I could create some paper flowers- almost like a present corsage. It certainly would elevate a simple thoughtful gift!

I also had some leftover glass pieces from a chandelier (that my parents had thought I could make use of) to use with Tracy's lovely flower stamps (more on that later)!

I love the contrast of the bright florals against the backdrop of inexpensive black paper!

I wanted to use mainly Tracy Scott colours. Her Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic collection is a rich collection of colour and I wanted to show what two colourways could look like with one image. I was mostly thinking of Christmas, but to those of you who remain adverse to it at this time of year, I thought I'd do a brighter more summery version too!

These were going to be simple striking dimensional flowers and I thought I'd try wiring up a paper flower to see how well it could work. 

Several of Tracy's colours are translucent, and for the centre of the wired flower I was using Ochre and even though it's a translucent paint, it still made sense to paint circles and then stamp over the top so the paint didn't dull the crispness of the images.

Wiring was simpler than I'd imagined. Using Smoothy Heavyweight cardstock, I stamped and painted part of the flower. Add the wires next and glue to the reverse.

Then just adhere some plain cardstock to the reverse of the image, covering the wires and trim around it.

I also painted the reverse of the flower and the edges so the white didn't show when I was bending the petals.

Most of the rest of the putting together was pretty simple. I loved layering up the flower, adding the wired part on foam pads and another centre on foam pads too.

I'm not sure why I thought I'd need so many leaves, but it's always simpler to lay down lots of paint and stamp the image over the top, then trim out. I had had an idea to have a pleated paper wrapping and insert leaves into the folds, but it looked too busy in the end.

I wanted to keep the wrapping as simple as possible. I had ordered some striped red and white ribbon, but it didn't arrive on time, so I thought I'd add some stencilled details to ground the Christmas flower on & used my favourite stencil PS021.

With a little more painting and colouring, I've ended up with a trio of interestingly wrapped gifts and the fact that I have 3 presents already wrapped for Christmas makes me the most organised I've ever been (but it sadly finishes there!!).

The dimension works so well for this beautiful flower- and the stamp set has a gorgeous corner spray plus some other smaller blooms.

This smaller set of flower buds and leaves works just so perfectly when you glue them into a circle to create a wreath. The letters (which works in lieu of a tag) is from the EGL16 set.

What of the leftover chandelier? The lovely angular nature with the tiny holes lends itself perfectly to a structural earring....

They have a lovely weight to them. Simply add some glue to the back of the chandelier part, stick on the stamped and coloured image and then leave to dry. Once it's dry, trim the edges close to the edge of the glass and then paint the reverse so if it spins around, it's not blank white cardstock showing.

I did enjoy creating these and with some prettier brighter paper, these gifts could look amazing. Add some layered stamped paper to wrap them in and you'd have a totally unique wrapping that your recipient could frame afterwards!

I think these would also work well with tags. The corner spray in the TS097 set would be the perfect image for a tag. I hope that you'll enjoy getting organised for whatever season you're preparing for and maybe give your presents a little glow-up whilst you're at it !
