2024 With 3 things: LUGGAGE LABEL {by Floss Nicholls}

I was so excited to be picked as one of the first three blogging team members to rise to the challenge of receiving three surprise supplies to art with for topic#1 in 2024!

The very first thing I thought of when I opened my package with Scrapcosy's map tissue paper and the beautiful acrylic colour BERMUDA that made me think of sunshine was; oh this little lady wants to go travelling!

I then started thinking about how I could achieve the travelling element and make it relevant to the topic glazed. I decided that I could colour the map with shades of BERMUDA, stitch some of the lines to make it more textured and use the Tracy Scott stamp in a grungy way.

I like to use the same colour in different strengths in my projects so decided to paint the land areas straight onto the reverse of the tissue with Bermuda which gave me a strong solid colour, then mixing PaperArtsy matt glaze with Bermuda in a ratio of 3:1 on the gel plate gave me the transparent effect I was after for the sea areas. It pulled off the plate beautifully.

I like to test different papers and variations of the stamp I am using. I decided this young lady needed to be treated to a different kind of make over and was especially excited with how the scraped gesso looked on the black paper over the black embossed stamp lines...

I started thinking about how I could still incorporate the BERMUDA on her dress or headband and how I could pick out some of her details in her dress with free motion embroidery on the sewing machine. I squiggled my way along her dress neckline to give a little more 'Floss' detail and added some across her headband too. Then I thought she needed some bling but that also needed to be applied in a grungy travel worn kind of way and so I sparingly used gilding paste and gold leaf for this in the background rather than on her clothes.

As I was applying the tissue paper to the calico rectangle using mat medium which allowed me to keep the tag very pliable I decided it would serve me well as an identity label to tie on my suitcase...I got quite excited at this idea and couldn't choose between these two ladies...so I decided to sew one on the front and one on the back of the luggage tag. Before I sewed her on I also sewed some of the diagonal lines to give me more texture.  I considered free motion stitching some of the map outline but thought that would be too busy and that the straight lines would compliment the map image more.

I added an eyelet and some strong glossy gold thread...I considered heavy string, a cable tie and sari silk ribbon but thought that the gold was in keeping with the gilded area.

I'll need to add my details to the white gesso reverse when I next go on my holidays and attach this young lady onto my suitcase...I'm sure she will be easy to spot in the baggage claim area.  Do you think she looks like a happy travelling companion?

I really enjoyed doing this!

Keep watching to see who is the 3rd player in this challenge ...

Until next time,

Much love,

2024 With 3 things: ATC Fun {by Claudia Neubacher}

Servus and welcome to the new and awesomely inspiring "With 3 Things" feature here on PaperArtsy! Being picked to be one of the first three blogging team members to tackle this fun challenge makes this even more exciting!

We were told it was going to be a challenge ... and when I unpacked my surprise bundle, I found it truly was that for me as there was a cute stamp - one of the latest gorgeous Tracy Scott designs - waiting for me to be turned into a true "Claudia" make. Most of you know that I usually don't do cute, but hey - I also never dodge a good challenge as this is always fun and tickles your brain in a way a comfort zone project never can! And when I saw the other two goodies - my favourite colour turquoise (in this case the Tracy Scott Fresco Finish paint Bermuda) and the Scrapcosy Printed Tissue with lots of beautiful script and map patterns - I immediately started planning the design of the project around my favourite colour.

I also tried to go by this month's theme and topic ("Glazed" and "Miniature") and started to browse my stash for something I could "glaze" in the most dimensional way possible. UTEE is a great embossing enamel when you want something glossy and bulky and when I found a left over die cut ornate frame in my left over die cuts box, I knew what I wanted to make: a kind of cabinet card with the cute fairy queen in a glossy Bermuda turquoise frame on a script pattern background. And to go by a miniature format I chose one of my favourite formats to work on when going for small: an ATC (Artist Trading Card). And this is the result:

Here are some of the additional products I used and these are actually nothing fancy - white opaque paint, brown archival stamping ink, coloured pencils, die cut left overs, cut to size ATC blanks...so I didn't use anything too special (except maybe the UTEE, but you can also use normal clear embossing powder instead).

I started with priming the ATC using white paint (so the script pattern from the printed tissue would be as visible as possible) and the die cut frame got a thorough layer of Fresco Finish Bermuda. I heat dried both so I could quickly move to the fun part.

Using  an embossing dabber on top of the dried Bermuda I applied a first thick layer of UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) to my frame. Then I added more UTEE to the still hot previous layer. I repeated this two more times to get a really chunky glossy frame. Time to let everything cool down thoroughly! (if you are using normal clear embossing powder you just need to add more layers to get a chunky result).

Then I could finally move on to the most fun part - cracking the UTEE on the frame! That's an effect I really love as it adds a lot of interest to makes and I always go for a weathered and worn look (which may be one of the reasons why I struggle with cute ;). To crack the enamelled layer I simply twisted and folded the frame in different areas with my fingers.

I think this looks just awesome, doesn't it? To highlight the cracks a little, I smudged some archival sepia stamping ink onto my media board and diluted it lightly with very little water from the spray bottle to create a kind of liquid ink wash (this is a trick to go by when you do not have any ready made inks  or other liquid media at hand to apply as a wash to highlight cracks).

Make sure you use a very soft brush and only little of the ink wash on the cracked UTEE - otherwise too much water will seep into the cracks and under the UTEE and your die cut cardboard will easily tear, the UTEE might come off and everything will take ages to dry (as because of the UTEE you cannot reheat your project without losing the cracks).

I loved the result a lot! While I set my cool frame aside to let it dry naturally, I continued with the focal element - the fairy queen from Tracy Scott's lovely new PaperArtsy Minis series.

I stamped the image in sepia archival stamping ink onto a sheet of lightly textured sketching paper and used coloured pencils on it. They allow for a subtle shading and create a soft vintage-y look. I also used diluted Bermuda paint and a fine detail brush for the background and on some of the image's details like the flower, the necklace and the bow.

I picked an area of the printed tissue with a lovely even script pattern to add to the ATC, but before I applied this layer with diluted matt decoupage glue, I blended the ATC's edges with the sepia archival ink using a piece of blending foam.

I heat dried the glued on tissue before I cut off any excess. Finally I fixed the coloured pencil portrait and the UTEE frame in place with tacky glue and added a little star on top. Done!

I had a lot of fun during the process and I really do like the outcome! My first idea was to only use brown sepia tones on the image but somehow the design just led me to go for a more colourful look (well done, Tracy Scott - you can even lure a grunge girlie like me into having some real cute colouring fun!).

I absolutely love how the three things took me on an adventurous and fun little journey and I also love where they led me to. I hope you like the result as much as I do!

NEW PaperArtsy Products: Tracy Scott {November 2023}

A note from Leandra:
Tracy brings you stencils, stamps and paints for this release!

Each of these products is very different to the next, so they all are standalone products. However, Tracy manages to weave ideas together within a release showing you ways to use them in combinations that you might not have considered!

Don't forget Tracy will be along to share with you LIVE her new products and ideas over in our facebook Group, PaperArtsy People shortly after this post publishes. We hope you can drop by for the live, or try to catch the replay. It's so nice to hear from the designer about each new release and understand more fully the ideas they have in mind for each product!

For the next few months, these stamps are only available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible.

Hi everyone, Tracy here

I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and 3 stencils plus this time I have 4 new gorgeous paint colours to share with you.

How gorgeous are these 4 new paint colours?...... swooning over here !!!
They are fresh, high coverage colours and because they are all opaque they compliment my existing colours perfectly.  They look beautiful as stand alone colours and I think have a real spring, easter, ice cream vibe so are going to work well for most occasions, however as they are all opaque they are going to be perfect as a base for some of the more vibrant semi-opaque and translucent colours in my collection allowing the building of bright vibrant beautiful layers with ease.
You will see how I have used them in some of the samples below.
I can't wait for you to play with them and see their beauty for yourself.

Mushrooms have been on my list of stamps to create forever but it never quite felt like the right time until now, and of course I needed to put my own twist on the theme.
What better way to do that than create my own cuter doodled mushrooms... aren't they just so pretty?

 STRAWBERRY WREATH

I'm sure you know how I like to be able to use my stamps in different and sometimes unexpected ways.... here is my adorable 'strawberry' wreath... or maybe I should call it a mushroomberry wreath!!

I removed the stalks from one of the smaller stamps, turned it upside down and voila.. cute little strawberries and the small flower on the stamp set works perfectly to coordinate with this, I added leaves from stamp set TS056 and berries from stamp set TS072 to complete the look.

Background colours were a mix of the new Flamingo and existing Prawn, they work so well together don't you think?

For my second sample, I used the stamps as they were intended.
Very often when I am teaching I will be teaching the same class several times and recreating the same backgrounds over and over for demos.  I just knew that the background I'd created for my 'In the Jungle' workshop would also work perfectly for this stamp set and a bonus that I don't waste those background pages.... so jungle very easily turns to forest with the addition of the various mushrooms in the set.

MUSHROOM FOREST

Again I used the leaves from Set TS056, and stencils PS268 and PS408 to complete my project... I just love how they all work together to create my finished page.

Mark making stamps are always a useful addition to any collection and I felt that it was time for a new set with new images to play with.

The first thing I did was create some collage sheets ready to be cut up and used in other projects.  I find this gives me a good opportunity to try out the stamps, seeing how they stamp over and over to create larger patterns and of course this they gives me lots of useful black and white collage fodder for later use.

I love the way all of these stamp but my favourite has to be the scribble stamp.... how amazing is that collage paper when it is stamped overlapping!

 COLLAGE PAPER

And of course I wanted to see how the stamps would work in a painted background... I chose to use a mix of ink and paint to stamp some of my images onto the background.

The background colours are a mix of the new paint colours with a few of my brighter existing colours added to the mix to create vibrancy.

You may remember a couple of releases ago I created a 'book of gems' for one of my samples where the gems were all hand drawn!.... I had so many requests for these gems to be turned into stamps that I knew I had to do them straight away... so here they are!!

For my first sample I wanted to do something different with them ... and we all know how much I love a mandala .... I decided to have a play with them in my cheap composition book to see what they could do and they worked better than I could have imagined, make sure you tune in to my 'live' reveal on the PaperArtsy People Facebook page at 7:30pm UK time tonight as I have lots more patterns to show you that I created using these stamps.

 GEM MANDALA

For my second sample I just knew that this stamp set was going to work perfectly with my 'Day of the Dead' image on my new tissue paper from the last release.
I've used the gems on this one to create a patterned background for my gorgeous girl to sit on and it really does work perfectly.

PaperArtsy Stencil by Tracy Scott {Large} 414 (PS414)

Roses were another of those options that sat on my list of things to do for a very long time, and as I wasn't creating any stamp sets this time with flowers on them I just knew the time was right... after all I couldn't have a release with no flowers at all could I ?

 BOUQUET OF ROSES

So the first thing I did when I got this stencil was to trace it out and use it as a template rather that just add paint straight through. moving the stencil and overlapping the flowers give depth to the picture. It also means I can create smaller flowers by only tracing parts of the stencil.

I wanted to create a bouquet that I could then colour with my coloured pencils so that it looked like a drawing rather that a stencil,  this is a technique I do quite often with my stencils, the stencil makes the drawing process easy and I am thrilled with the finished piece..... who would have guessed it started with a stencil ?

For my second sample I've used simple black paint to create a really striking background for my page,  the roses are then highlighted with a white pen to enhance the shapes.

NEW YEAR

I adore this stencil, even in its simplest form with the black paint it really does create a high impact background and will be perfect for cards, home decor or scrapbook pages too.

And if you look really closely you can see some of those mark making stamps appearing in the faded background of the large balloon.

PaperArtsy Stencil by Tracy Scott {Large} 415 (PS415)

Numbers are always a good option for stamps and stencils as they can be used in so many different ways, there are so many fonts and designs out there that sometimes it's difficult to choose.

However this time I knew I wanted bubble number, these are a good sizes can be used for focal points as well as in backgrounds making them a really versatile set to add to your collection.

NUMBER JUMBLE

My first sample with this stencil (I created this straight after the roses drawing so you can see I was on a roll!!) was again to use as a template and pile the numbers, heart and exclamation mark up to create my design.

I find this technique particular useful when I am away from home as I don't usually have a large amount of supplies with me.... All that was needed was my stencil, black and white pens and my coloured pencils!

And of course these bubble numbers are the perfect shape to create your very own balloon numbers.... these are perfect to create focal images for cards, art journal pages, gifts and more.

I had so much fun creating these.
Here I have used them to create a focal for my card using the zero to create a cute round balloon... how cute do they look?...

BALLOON NUMBERS

You might also notice that I used them on my balloon journal page to create the year focal image as well as in the painted background for my mark making stamps.

And did you also notice the background for this card was creating by stamping one of the new gem stamps multiple times to create a cool base and belly band for my card.

PaperArtsy Stencil by Tracy Scott {Large} 416 (PS416)

You might remember quite a long time ago I created a tiles stencil (PS211) and I've wanted to create something similar but on a bigger scale ever since so that I could create bold tiled backgrounds. I knew now was the time and to get the most of the limited space on the stencil I decided to create six squares that could be repeated or mix and matched to make bigger patterns filling a page quickly.

The background for this art journal page is painted with the 4 new paint colours... don't they look gorgeous together?

PATCHWORK TILE

You can see on this page I have used the same design in 2 different ways.... around the edges of the page I've used the regular approach of just stencilling through with black paint and on the inner square I've used the shape as a template and coloured around the outside of the pattern with black to create a reverse detail. I really does create a striking look against those fun new colours and simple and easy to achieve.

And of course with six different designs there are endless possibilities and designs you can c create... this is a new favourite for sure!

For my second sample I decided to use the stencil to create the covers for my new magazine journal.

I used the new paint colours and added some of my existing colours to the mix to create this stunning vibrant painted surface, because all of the new colours are opaque they are a great base for added some of the more vibrant semi-opaque and translucent shades on top.

MAGAZINE JOURNAL

Using the tile stencil again in black made this a real quick and easy cover to put together and how striking does it look?

I used the bubble heart from the numbers stencil to create my balloon focal image to complete the piece.

Thank you so much for joining me tonight, I hope that you like everything you've seen?
Make sure you stop by the PaperArtsy People Facebook page at 7:30pm UK time tonight to see all of the above samples in the 'live' release, there might be a few more surprises!

I can't wait to see what you all create with these new products.
