Victorian Theatre with NEW EGL stamps {by Keren Baker}

I've been lucky enough to get Gwen Lafleur's most recent release all inky and I've created a few projects using her 3 new sets. When I first saw them, my mind immediately went to the Victorian era, those Darwin-esque text books of nature drawings from places like the Galapagos Islands and so I mused on creating an animal based Victorian puppet theatre. 

It really was a case of working out some simple paper structures, but then I wanted to create something a little more modern, which you can see at the end of the post.

I wanted to use colours that were indicative of the later Victorian period. These colours went so perfectly together. I did lament later on the lack of a yellow and blue, but I think it worked out ok.

Once the initial step of basic sketching was done, I got to thinking about how I could use the stamps to create the theatre frame. The henna inspired images from EGL48 were architectural enough to create a whimsical top for the theatre.

I needed to create a stage, which was a simple box bottom, and I found some paper that would do the job (and worked rather well as faux curtains later). I decided to create faux stage boards but embossed on the wrong side so couldn't sand the top bit off.

 

This part was just painting all the elements and colouring. The copper was such a great highlight because of the metallic reflective quality of the paint.

You can see some of the structure of the theatre- a pretty simple make!

I also created a few extra projects using the amazing sets from Gwen.

The fish from EGL48 looked fabulous stamped onto acetate. I coloured the flamingo with Copics and added another acetate stamped layer, added some glue and glitter to make a sandwich. I wanted a sentiment so used the bold alpha from EGL16 to say 'Happy Birthday' in short.

This last one was done using elements of EGL47 & EGL48, and using lots of the smaller details to create tiny embellishments. The tree from EGL47 makes for such a striking 'wallpaper' that I coloured in with watercolours.

I hope that my samples show just how versatile style-wise Gwen Lafleur's stamps are. Whether you like, vintage, boho, modern or more, there's something here for everyone.

Hi everyone, it's Autumn Clark from SewPaperPaint with you today, and I'm here to share with you my funky, modern take on the Twinkle Twinkle topic. 

I really wanted to see how I could use PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylics to create a night sky.  I'm so happy with the finished background and am sharing a process video with you so you too can recreate your own twinkling galaxy.  These days I think our minds need a faraway place to dwell at times, whether that's the flow state of creativity or places we can make or imagine.  I hope these projects allow you just that feeling!

I was so excited to get to work with PaperArtsy Eclectica³ {Everything Art} Collection (EEA02) because I felt the hand and moth were perfectly on point with the current celestial trend, of which I am absolutely smitten!  I did a brave thing and cut the compass away from my hand stamp so I could use it more ways.  Don't fear, I can simply realign the stamps for seamless stamping and no one will be the wiser.  ;0  I was able to overstamp the moth in the center of the hand to create a totally new image from the stamp set.  I layered with a second colored image and sisal fibers for dimension.

I used Distress Inks to tint the paper for my hand and a layered stamping technique with the stamp platform for the moth.  I hope this short process video shows this clearly.

 

The galaxy background was made by painting a sheet of heavy black card with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in Little Black Dress, followed by a sponging of Midnight, Eggplant and Bougainvillea.  A hearty splashing of watered Cloud 9 created the starry effect.

 

 

I chose an alternate sentiment from PaperArtsy Eclectica³ {Scrapcosy} Collection (ESC19), embossed in white.  If you're nervous about paint splattering, you could use the dots in this set to make yours stars.

 

I used the leftover background paper to make a bookmark.  I find reading as a great way to let my mind travel and have been making lots of bookmarks lately.  What a fun way to start a new book!

I used Concord Grape Distress Oxide to stamp the dot pattern and it showed very well.  I took it a step further and embossed the pattern and added a silver embossed moth.

 

I always find it hard to stop once I get a project in mind and an idea comes to fruition.  This is a process I can't wait to revisit!

I hope this twinkle twinkle tutorial has encouraged you to experiment with your Fresco Chalk Acrylics to create some far and away projects of your own.  I am imagining this moth in hand stamped onto acetate tinted with alcohol inks over a similar background or perhaps adding some of those tiny card lights to really accentuate the star effect.  The possibilities are endless with such incredible paints and stamps!  Thanks for joining us today, Autumn
