Topic 17 Day and Night
Hi everyone, Keren here, introducing the new topic; Day and Night! Two opposites that we see every day. Which one is your favourite? Are you the early bird, up with the lark or a night-owl who loves to stay up late and watch the stars? The contrasts in colour, imagery and even texture open up a whole world of possibilities and certainly artistically speaking, there's much to explore. The dark velvety night and the bright sunshine warmth of the day (assuming the sun is actually not hiding behind rain clouds!) can be a great place to start.
We begin our 'perpetual' journey by ransacking the PaperArtsy blog. Alison made this wonderful collection with a night and day vibe.
How about one that has both day and night in the same project? This clever travel water pot by Darcy Wilkinson ( which is on my wish list to make!) has a different scene on each face.
Lotte Kristenson created this piece which although strictly about night, has such lovely contrast around the edges, I thought we could slip it into the topic.
Combining the two ideas together has had lots of different approaches, but this melding of Coney Island at different times of day is clever.
Imagination can take us to the realms of fantasy. This image looks like it could catapult a whole piece of fiction from it!
Art By Angie describes their piece of artwork; 'Comes in two flavors: winter night and summer day~ The winter nights when the world is illuminated in the silver cast of the moon. Where everything is dark, muted, comforting. And the summer days where the sun coats the earth and the colors come alive. Vibrant, uplifting, and warm.
Colors are like a language. They can convey so much. The world is drenched in it. We just have to take the time to appreciate it all.'
A little more illustration in the form of greeting cards. Exploring a yin and yang concept, and beautifully designed.
I absolutely loved this; the idea of drawing up the night to see the day coming.
Night and Day combined in such warmth; I might purchase some of these stickers myself!
Night and day can speak of opposites too. The link is to a video of a wonderful emotional piece of art.
This incredible beaded beauty entwines the best parts of day and night.
Such an inspired idea; two 'day and night' lions creating a heart. Such artistry.
Always attracted to the bright and the bold, the colours are mirrored by shades injected into black.
We end with a journalled style of art which I 'thought' might give some ideas on how to incorporate the theme into your journals.
Topics that can be literal, fantasy-based, contrasting or very simple are ones that allow us to bring our imagination and spin on things to life. It will be good to see how the PaperArtsy bloggers have interpreted this dark and light theme.

PaperArtsy Relocation News
We are in the throes of relocating our business from England to France. Please be aware from August 10 through October 1st, both the PaperArtsy retail and wholesale websites are in hibernation mode while we pack, move and unpack. This means you can view our websites, but you cannot proceed through checkout.
