2019 #1 Mustard and Twilight with EAB/ESC {by Carol Fox}

2019 Topic 1: Mustard

Carol has created a tactile tag full of detail that cleverly shows how sticking to a limited palette of paint creates many coordinating shades of colour. Her fab tip about sewing over Grunge Paste is one I'm definitely storing away to try later.

Stockist info for the new Scrapcosy products is available here

Hi everyone, it's Carol with you today, and I'd like to share with you a project using some of the lovely new stamps by Scrapcosy. Add in a quote from Alison Bomber and it's a win, win really.

I used only two colours of paint and white which gave me great contrasts and due to the way I applied the paint I even got a little bit of texture on my background. I finished with a touch of Grunge Paste to make it even more bumpy, and ended up with a nice textured piece. I do like art that makes you want to touch and feel it.

My Tag is #10 sized and I covered a basic tag with Heavy Weight Smoothy Card and I only used the colours Mustard PickleTwilight and Snowflake on my tag, mixing these in different ways gave me a large enough colour palette to work with.

By applying my paint onto a piece of Deli paper first and then lightly pouncing that onto my tag to apply the paint.(this is a technique I learnt at at a Seth Apter Class) I got some nice texture on my background.

I stamped my focal image using ESC17 by ScrapCosy onto my piece of Deli Paper that I used to apply my paint, this would save me having to fussy the image too much.

Here you can see it glued down. The already coloured Deli Paper is so thin that it lets it blend into the background and the uncut background pieces don't show.

Using my paint through stencil PS124 adds extra depth and a light dab of Twilight mixed with the Mustard Pickle makes it darker and slightly murky looking. Edging with white pen makes it pop off the background and stops it getting lost. The addition of the cowslip from the same stamp set stamped directly onto my tag in blue ink blends it all together with my focal image.

I used Grunge Paste coloured With Mustard Pickle paint through stencil PS052, with Twilight Paint smudged over the top.

This quote from Alison Bombers Stamp Set EAB02 seemed perfect for my tag with the varying shades of mustard/blue and green created by my  two colours of paint Mustard Pickle and Twilight.

My carefully arranged "random" stitching adds an extra little something to the tag and I think just finishes it off. Grunge paste is easy to stitch through; it doesn't crack or flake off which some other products do.

I like using Deli paper instead of tissue to add an image to a project as it is a lot more robust but also blends as well as tissue into your background, If you want to stamp and fussy cut an image it handles paint well if you want to colour the reverse. You can also get it really wet with multi medium to glue it in place. I instead used Pritt stick as the pens I used to colour my image were water soluble so Multi Medium would have given me a smudgy mess.  I liked the way I did  not have to fussy cut my image too much and could leave all the  enclosed areas uncut and not even go round the outer edges too finely. This is not a product/technique I have used a great deal, but a group of friends I regularly craft with used it recently on a project we did and I thought I would try it out again here, and yes it's a "keeper".

2019 #1 Mustard: with Cerise and ESA {by Josefine Fouarge}

2019 Topic 1: Mustard

Josefine's project tonight is a brilliant example of how leftover paint and some clever outlining can transfom an art journal page using stencils and brayers. Stockist info for all the new 2019 products are available here

Hi everyone, Josefine here and today's art journal page is very colorful. I decided to pair the Fresco Finish paint Mustard with Cerise as well as with one of the latest Seth Apter stamps, a stencil by Darcy and some other Fresco Finish paints.

I'm really into bright colours lately and love all the variety of colours that the Fresco Finish paints come in. They just make everything 'happy'. So, I started with one of my clean up pages and ended with this magical wonderland.

This is what the page looked like at the beginning. It's a clean up from a mono printing project where I used Fresco Finish paints in Mustard Pickle (FF148), London Bus (FF37), Vintage Lace (FF18) and Mermaid (FF44) for a tag. As a first step, I added Cerise (FF136) and more Mustard Pickle using a brayer. Of course, that makes orange! Using primary colours to make others is always fun and easy with a brayer!

Then I stamped a variety of circles and postage stamps from Seth Apter's set ESA07 and Scrapcosy's set ESC16.

To pull everything together, I used Fresco Finish paint in Snowflake (FF15) and Vintage Lace and brayered those two colors all over the page.

Once I was done with the background I grabbed the PS104 stencil and added the mushrooms to the page. I used Mustard Pickle as the base and blended a little bit of Cerise to the heads of the mushrooms.

Then I added more Mermaid around the mushrooms and outlined them with a black fine liner.

After adding the birds from the same stencil and a short sentiment, I also added a few circles from Seth Apter's latest stamp set ESA12. They had to fit to the page, so I used again Mustard Pickle and Cerise, created an ombre effect on my craft mat and used that as the ink pad for the different circles from that set.

Finally, I added a few white outlines and some more scribbles to highlight a few of the areas.

At the end the page had something magical, even with the more mechanical looking images from Seth's set. Color can really change how we perceive certain things and it's so much fun to experiment with that.

What fairy tale project are you going to create next?

Thanks so much for stopping by! Don't forget to come back often as there are so many great projects, sneak peeks and stamp reveals waiting for you.

2019 #1 Topic Introduction: The colour mustard

2019 Topic Introduction: The Colour Mustard

2019 Topic 1: Mustard

Hello! Keren here with an introduction for our next challenge; to hopefully whet your appetite and get you creating too. Colour combinations can sometimes be tricky to combine successfully. Mustard might not be the first colour springing to mind to pair with another and it's one of those colours a lot like Marmite; you either love it or hate it ! Ironically, the lid on Marmite isn't a million shades away from mustard either ! Our challenge is all about colours to pair with the bright yet dark hue of yellow and you might be surprised to see just how well it partners with so many in our glorious spectrum of colour.

Some of the most popular pairings I've seen are grey and yellow. It's a perfect challenge to add texture too; maybe it's the thought of wholegrain mustard, or perhaps it's seeing projects like this one

I am a sucker for modern colour schemes- and I love the autumnal vibe and the way that mustard morphs so beautifully and seamlessly into a warm and cosy atmosphere...

...or blasts itself into a vibrant explosion of a colour combination like here

You might be forgiven for thinking it's only really suited to a contemporary style of creating, but if you feast your eyes upon this wonderful wallpaper, you'll see that William Morris was there already

If you look on the high street, you'll see many wonderful combinations in fashion and home decor

and whilst we're talking about 'current'- mustard sits rather happily alongside colours similar to the Pantone colour for 2019 (Living Coral). Notice the navy at the bottom; it contrasts so well!

If you're still needing a little nudge- how about adding in a beautiful green to the combo?

Emilio Pucci

or add in a vibrant poppy red that looks like a dead ringer with our Fresco  Acrylic London Bus.

I adore this little peek into an Hungarian hue, and all of that luscious texture from the peeling paint.

Last, but by no means least, I thought a contribution from PaperArtsy was in order. There were a surprising amount of mustard-related projects, but I settled on this one as I love the stamps so much.

If you're hunting for a mustard paint- I have the perfect recommendation; Fresco Finish Mustard Pickle.

After all this talk of a 'condiment' colour, I hope you're ready to join in. Whether you go for neutrals, add some zing with teal or shocking pink, I'm sure your projects will more than cut the mustard (sorry!!). Don't forget to slather this surprisingly versatile colour all over your creations!

Don't forget to follow Leandra's Pinterest board if this topic pushes your buttons, you will see plenty more examples to whet your appetite there!

You're going to love the projects we have coming up. We are not doing the linked challenge  for 2019, so if you create along with us, please share on our social feeds so we can see what you get up to. The best places are instagram @paperartsy or post in PaperArtsy People Group on Facebook too.

I am really looking forward to seeing what you create over the next 2 weeks!

NEW: JoFY Collection {by Anneke de Clerck}

Jan 2019 New Products
The JoFY Collection

Hi everyone, Anneke is with you today to share something with Jo's newest stamps announced 2 days ago here, but first up, here's a quick reminder of Jo's newest stamps.

I'd like to share with you an art journal spread I made in my large Dylusions journal. The flowers Jo designed are really big. They have the perfect size to use in a large journal. To create the background I applied one of my favorite techniques: building layers using paint, tissue paper, stencils and stamps.

A quick way to color large pages is printing with a small gel printing plate.

I started by picking some colors, my favorite part of the job :) On this spread I've chosen to work with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Cerise, Mermaid, Coral, Pixie Dust, Blah Mange, Caribbean See and Zesty Zing.

I used a small gel printing plate (Gel Press Petites: 3-inch Square), loaded the plate with 2 different colors and made some marks or scribbles into the paint before printing.

I filled both pages by creating color blocks. After coloring the spread I toned down the colors in some places and made the edges of the color blocks less visible. To do so I applied stripes of Fresco Finish Snowflake on the gel plate using my fingers, then printed. I added white dots on some of the color blocks using my fingers. I continued adding white paint until I was happy with the result.

Next I adhered torn strips of washi tape (Dina Wakley Media Collage Paper) randomly.

I added stenciling using PS132 with Fresco Finish Snowflake and PS131 with Fresco Finish Blah Mange.

The orange pattern was done with a stamp from the JOFY 73 set and Archival Ink Tiger Lily.

I highlighted some of the marks on the gel prints using a white pen. I added white details to the pink squares too.

I stamped 3 flowers on gesso-ed book text using the flower stamp from the JOFY 73 set. After cutting out I adhered them to the pages as shown. For a playful effect I attached some black thread underneath each flower. I stamped small circles from the JOFY 71 set on book text as well and used these circles to further decorate the pages.

I finished the spread off by stamping text from the JOFY 72 set.

On this photo you can see how all the layers come together.

I'm very fond of the JOFY collection. I use the stamps and stencils on a regular base on my projects. In my opinion all the sets match with each other, that's why they are so fun to play with. The possibilities are endless!
For this blogpost I made an art journal spread but I've already used the new JOFY stamps and stencils on cards as well. The large flowers look awesome on cards too! Keep an eye on my blog or Instagram account, I'll post the cards there in the coming days.

In the meantime I hope you'll put some of Jo's new stamps or stencils on your wish list. You certainly won't regret :) And of course I would love to see what you make with the new JOFY products.

These products are available NOW from PaperArtsy stockists, see here for details.

Thanks for stopping by!
