A note from Leandra ...
Are you ready for a new release from Mags Woodcock ??? We totally are ready here, and wow (!!!) this release see Mags finding her stride as our newest designer, as she bring to the table a brand new product. She has so many interesting, explorative and unexpected ideas. If you follow Mags on her YouTube or via her amazing contributions to Stampington Publications, you will know what a lover of rust she is! That is very relevant today!
Mags will use PaperArtsy rusting powder to edit anything into something old and worn looking! When combined with Infusions, Grunge Paste, it is a match made for Mags and her creative style. Today she has more excitement in the form of 'Rusty Bits' Printed Tissue. This is a concept Mags approached us with some time ago. As it is totally her jam, and we had already started printing coloured tissue, we thought it made good sense. Read to the end to see her incredible samples that pull everything together.
Mags will be LIVE over in our Facebook Group, 'PaperArtsy People' shortly after this post publishes. These stamps are available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Please check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible.
Our retailers also endeavour to join the designer's live to share their direct shopping links - this makes it super easy for you to find a store with product in stock immediately.
Hi everyone, Mags here.
I love nature and the natural world, it never ceases to amaze me, the colours forms and structures it creates. I also love to create using nature and the initial inspiration behind this release was a set of simple prints I created using leaves from our garden and an ink pad. As you may know, I love to use vintage books and text in my work, so combining the prints with some book page scraps was the obvious way to go. To add a contemporary twist to a couple of the stamp sets, I added in some doodled leaves, making the sets even more versatile. The ephemera on each stamp set is drawn from vintage invoices from the 1950s , with a few of my typewritten words and definitions .The stencils echo some of the stamp themes, but also include versatile shapes to contrast with the stamps.
Lets take a look at this October 2026 release, starting with the stamps ......
Red Rubber Stamps (A5 set)
Price: RRP €23.00 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, with a laminated storage/index sheet.
Mags Woodcock Set 007 {EMW007}
Set EMW007 includes 10 stamps. The two leaves are ideal as focal images, with the ephemera stamps ideal to expand an idea or collage. Some of the stamps in this set can be cut apart to stamp small elements on a project, for example the Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter stamp.
Rusty Foliage
On this tag I used Infusions Rusty Car to colour the stamped leaves and ephemera, adding dimension by using foam pads. A touch of muslin and rusty wire add texture.
The initial stamping onto the tag allows the text and numbers to still be visible below the leaves. The ephemera supports the focal area and adds interest, again these are coloured using Rusty Car.
The square ephemera can be stamped onto coloured Smoothy and then cut apart to create several smaller elements, and the Please Quote stamp adds interest to the background. Don't you just love that tiny pointing hand ?
The large script stamp is a favourite of mine to add a true vintage feel to any project, the swirls have a lovely soft feel, even when only partially stamped as here. Of course Butterscotch is also ideal to pair with autumn themed projects like this.
Seasonal Leaves
I love to watch the changing colours of leaves across the seasons. This panel has a grungy background created using Fresco Finish chalk Acrylic Nougat and Waterfall, with a spritz of Just Walnut Infusions. The leaves from EMW007 take centre stage, having been coloured using Rusty car, A Bit Jaded and Just Walnut Infusions
First and second generation stamping of the rectangular mark making stamp adds depth in the background of the panel.
So let's move on to the next stamp set
Mags Woodcock Set 008 {EMW008}
Stamp set EMW008 has 10 stamps. It features an Ivy leaf print collage, a dictionary definition, lots of ephemera and a stamp featuring numbers. The separate elements easily combine to expand the main collage, but also create interest in a background. The combinations are endless.
Ivy, dear Ivy
The Ivy on this tag had to be stamped in green and then coloured with A Bit Jaded Infusions, as Ivy is evergreen and doesn't drop it's leaves. This, and a further tag form part of a series of three featuring the leaf collage stamps.
As with the previous tag in this set, I stamped the collage onto the tag and then added coloured leaves and rusty wire to emphasise the focal area.
The dictionary definition peeks out from beneath the partial ivy leaf and ephemera label.
Partial stamping of the New Station Street stamp adds interest to the base of the tag, whilst the numbers and Leaves stamp enforce the focal leaf.
The imagined story behind this project was fun. A man who owns a Butterscotch factory, and becomes a self made Butterscotch millionaire. For him, it's all about the numbers.
The Parkinson's Butterscotch ephemera looks great tucked behind the layers of Infusions splattered mountboard ( A Bit Jaded, Just Walnut and Rusty Car).
Numbers feature heavily in this piece, stamped onto tags and also MDF stars.
Stamping the address on the corners helps to frame the panel, whilst the number detail on the base panel carries through the theme.
Mags Woodcock Set 009 {EMW009}
Set EMW009 has 10 stamps including a leaf print and a doodled leaf. A fragment of poetry, ephemera and a stamp derived from a hand cut foam stamp. The dots echo the dots in the collage stamp. Of course there are also numbers to add detail.
But Sweet as Honey
The third in the series of leaf tags, again with a Rust Car coloured leaf and texture from cheesecloth and rusty wire.
Using just the edge of the collage stamp to add rows of dots along the edge of the tag and then adding a rusty paperclip looks great.
Stamping the poetry fragment to the side of the main collage extends it across the tag. Positioning the number ephemera just below a line in the poetry draws the eye to the words.
Combining Rusty Car Infusions with Just Walnut in this project makes for a bold look with visual impact and warmth. Stamping both address ephemera on the background breaks up the colour and adds interest.
Continuing the bold dots across the panels help the eye to drift across. A fragment of the poetry adds a small accent.
The strip of numbers looks great stamped across a mini tag and added into the side of the panel. The Rusty Car coloured leaf makes a bold statement.
Extending the collage with the poetry fragment and strip of numbers allows the eye to travel past the edge of the panel to the layers below. A paperclip frames two words.
Most Important
My fingers were itching to use the stamps on a large art journal page, so I used a combination of all three stamp sets and the three stencils. A background of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics ( Rusty, Vanilla, Cerulean, Granny Smith and Niagara Falls ) set the autumnal scene.
The leaf print from EMW009 was the ideal focal image when heat embossed in black with colour added with Rusty car and A Bit Jaded Infusions.
I added some drifts of dots, both first, second and third generation stamping. You can also see the number stamp in action from EMW008 and the stencils too.
Let's take a look at the new stencils ...
Stencils
PaperArtsy Stencils {Regular}
Price: RRP €5.64 + VAT
Regular Size: 6.5" x 7" (16 x 18cm)
Robust 250 micron mylar designed to offer longevity, deep texture and easy clean up
Leaf Stencils are some of my favourites to create, I love their versatility. This branch with multiple leaves can be used as a whole or in parts. When combined with Grunge Paste or inks, it has so many possibilities. Let's take a look at what I created.
The Gilded Branch
Applying Grunge Paste through the stencil onto a panel of mount board allowed me to create a super simple project. When the paste was completely dry I sprayed the panel with diluted Infusions, A Bit Jaded.
To add detail to the leaves, I used a pencil to add veins and smudged out the lines a little.
A touch of gilding wax highlights the texture and adds a touch of opulence.
Finally I added a small Tim Holtz Paper Doll and an ephemera bench for him to sit on.
Turn Over a New Leaf
The inked leaves surrounding this vintage themed composition bring the eye in from all sides and enforces the focal group. The background is sprayed Infusions, A Bit Jaded, and aptly the Ranger Archival ink pad is English ivy.
Adding a touch of white gel pen around the dots and along the spines of the leaves adds a touch more definition and contrast.
The quote," turn over a new leaf" refers to the leaves(pages) of a book, but I took some artistic licence on the stamp set and included it. So I had to include book page scraps of course.
PaperArtsy Stencil 537 by Mags Woodcock {PS537}
Circles are an enduring love of mine, especially random sized circles. I can see this being a favourite of mine for using with inks, Grunge paste, and also to use on a gel plate.
A Walk in Nature
I love to combine natural found objects with stamped images and stencil work. Here you can see I applied Grunge Paste through the stencil onto a brayered background of Waterfall Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic, before spraying with Just Walnut Infusions.
I added random stamping with some of the text stamps to add extra visual texture and layers.
When applying the Grunge Paste through the stencil I used my fingers and only applied through one side of each circle. This gave an abundance of texture.
The previous project had lots of partial circles in the background which reminded me of the phases of the moon. I wanted to use the stencil to create a very simple project echoing this idea, but also simplifying it.
Creating the moon was easy, on a panel of white mount board, I applied a reasonable amount of Grunge Paste through the largest circle in the stencil. As before using my fingers for a rough texture. I also thinned a small amount of paste with water and painted onto the blank area of the moon, this ensured the whole moon would react the same to the application of infusions.
When the paste was completely dry I sprayed the whole panel with Black Knight Infusions and then concentrated sprays of Just Walnut onto the moon, it diffused out nicely and gave a nice glow.
As I was keeping the panel super simple, I added a touch of second generation stamping to the edges of the panel.
Here you can see the gorgeous texture of the Grunge Paste, the Just Walnut has settled into the cracks and crevices and they show all the more. The die cut botanical silhouette adds the finishing touch.
PaperArtsy Stencil 538 by Mags Woodcock {PS538}
Being a Yorkshire lass, I am by nature thrifty and love a bargain, so designing a stencil with not one but three designs makes my heart sing. This stencil combines straight lines, a drift of dots and a collection of numbers. Each one designed to combine or contrast with the other stencils and stamps in the collection, but also work with previous releases.
Leaves
I always knew I would use this particular stamp to create a flower and I wanted some texture to contrast with the organic shapes. The stripes on stencil PS538 are ideal.
Adding grunge Paste through the stencil at the top and bottom of the panel adds just the right amount of texture. You can also see how the leaves form a lovely flower. Imagine that at Xmas for a festive Poinsettia.
Of course I also had to add stamping using the small number stamps from EMW008, more visual texture. You can also see the larger number stamp at work in the background.
Creating a trio of tags using the final stencil was somewhat of a foregone conclusion.
The drift of dots on the first tag suggests movement, and adding a touch of penwork adds contrast to the plain back dots. The cluster of leaves adds a focal to the infusions sprayed tag.
The number section of the stencil works both vertically and horizontally, here I used sections vertically and added white pen work for contrast.
The stripes here are firstly inked in black onto the dyed tag and then the smaller blocks are added through the stencil with a fine liner pen, white gel pen to finish. The focal group contrasts against the lines and blocks with an almost retro look.
And finally the new kid on the block to finish off this release perfectly ....
Printed Tissue: Rusty Bits
Printed Tissue Paper by Mags Woodcock (PT17)
Price: RRP €4.20 +VAT
Size: 30" x 20" (67 x 47 cm) 4 per pack
When I first came up with the idea for this tissue I wasn't sure if it would be possible, as the Printed Tissue was only in black and white at the time. After many rusting sessions and scans, combined with the PaperArtsy dream team design skills, it came to fruition, and I couldn't be happier.
I always envisaged it being used for background elements, enhancing the layers of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics and Infusions in mixed media projects and journal pages. As I played with the various elements printed on the tissue, I realised what additional wonderful effects could be achieved.
So lets take a look.
Rusty Reminders, journal page.
The tissue works wonderfully when layered over a large journal page with a layer of gesso beneath it. Brayering on a random coat of Squeezed Mattint added a warmth to the background that ties in with the warmth of the rusty tissue. Lots of sprayed Just walnut Infusions added that vintage look and helped the tissue blend in, but it also takes on more depth of colour.
With several of the ring bound edges on one sheet along with several tags, adding details at the edge of any page is a breeze.
Here you can see how I added a torn ring-bound edge to a panel of weathered, painted wood. Also notice how I added a section of the book page from the tissue under the photo, this was adhered straight onto Smoothy card.
Fallen Leaves
Here you can see the Printed Tissue in action in the background layers of this art panel
The Printed Tissue blends perfectly into the background, but adds a strong base for the project. I used 'Squeezed' Mattint to adhere the tissue at the left hand side of the project and worked several additional layers of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic (Sea Glass) and stamping over the top.
Here, again you can see how the tissue adds depth and interest to the background. This fragment of tissue was adhered with Matte Glaze, can you spot the difference from the last photo ?
Building Backgrounds
I love to build backgrounds, ready to use at a later date. With so many yummy elements on each sheet of tissue, I have plenty to play with.
Here I combined the tissue with Sea Glass Fresco and Just Walnut Infusions spray. Notice how I used several tiny leftover scraps of tissue at the edges of the panel, nothing is wasted.
Here I combined the tissue with Sea Glass Fresco and Just Walnut Infusions spray. Notice how I used several tiny leftover scraps of tissue at the edges of the panel, nothing is wasted.
Lots of over stamping and brayered Sea Glass Fresco here make the background cohesive, ready to receive a focal element. The tissue adds a depth and rusty vibe to the background.
Another selection of backgrounds, showing how versatile the tissue is. Layered with Frescos, Infusions, Grunge Paste, or just deep within the layers.
I can not wait to build more backgrounds and play with different combinations which include the tissue.
I am so happy that this tissue came to fruition, and with so many elements on each sheet ! I know I will be creating with it and discovering it's many possibilities for months to come.
I really can't wait to see what you create using it.
This nature inspired collection of stamps and stencils, along with the Printed Tissue, have been a joy to design and create with. Over the coming weeks I will be sharing even more inspiration using them, from clean and simple greetings cards to vintage journal pages. Don't forget that they are not confined to autumnal colours, spring leaves in bright green and limes would look equally fabulous, as would quirky colour combos for summer. Make sure you are following me so you don't miss the upcoming tutorials, my links are below.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my samples and reading about the inspiration behind the collection. I also really hope you feel inspired to create with them! Please tag me on social media if you share your beautiful makes.
I must also thank Leandra, Mark and all at PaperArtsy HQ for their unending patience, and pure talent at what they do. You are fabulous and it's an honour to work with you.
Happy crafting
