2021 Topic 12 : Sustainable Crafting with TS {by Etsuko Noguchi}

   2021 Topic 12: Sustainable Crafting

Etsuko thought about how to create a really useful item for this post. She has made an accordion folder with pockets, perfect for storing ephemera or loose small papers. But she also made (and beautifully decorated) an envelope for each of the gaps in the folder. So many great ideas within this and I think we all really love to create and end up with an item that has a purpose.
~ Leandra

Hi everyone, It's Etshko(My favorite things) with you today, and I'm here to share with you Handy Holder with Envelope packets. I chose this project because it is a fun way to remake and reuse the parcel packages and direct mail envelopes and little less waste. It's also a great way to spend my time working with lovely designer Tracy Scott stamps and my favourite Frescos colours.

The first step was to make the masterboards. Fresco paints were printed on a thick sheet of printing papers using a Gel Plate. Using the technique I learnt in Tracy Scott's workshop 'Index Card Art 2', I spread a thin layer of the above Fresco Chalk Acrylic ( Banana, Cerise, Cerulean and Electric Violet in my case) but you can use any colours you like choice. Then one colour at a time, print onto the Gelli Plate. Mist with water using a spray bottle on the Gelli Plate, use a brayer to blend the water and paint, then use an eyedropper to drip Isopropyl Alcohol in places and print on paper. The circles like this will appear where the alcohol has been dripped. Repeat this process until you get a nice shade, and then you will have some masterboards. As always, this process is very enjoyable with many happy accidents.

The next step is to make the cover for the holder, using my favourite Tracy's stamps that are used over and over. I cut a used parcel package to the size of the holder. I then used two sheets of Gel-prinedt papers in similar shades and stamped Tracy Scott set 054 and 057 (TS054, TS057) randomly in Ranger Archival ink (Leaf Green and Blue Violet) to cover and pasted the holder base. Next, I stamped the three mandalas of (TS055) with Ranger Archival ink (Jet Black) on Smoothy (Heavyweight) A4 white card. On the same piece of paper, painted Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Cerulean, Electric Violet and Zucchini) and stamped three small mandala of (TS055) in the same number in Ranger Archival ink (Jet Black), cut and stick it in the holder as shown in the picture. Size of the holder--Length 8 1/4" (21cm), Height 5 1/4" (13cm), Depth 3/4 (2cm).

I wanted a slightly darker colour so I added Fresco Chalk Acrylic ( Southern Skies )

The majority of the paper is used for the dividers and bellows of the holder itself, leaving some for the envelope collage.

This is the front, I put the clasp on it, using Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Cerise) and Tracy Scott set 055 (TS055) and black elastic band.

And the back.

The holder itself useful enough, but I made the pocket in it that can be removed, using a direct mail envelopes. I though it would be fun to make a collage on top of it and remake it. Each envelope was coated with White gesso and once dry, the same as the masterboard technique was used to print the envelopes with the Gelli Plate.

I used my finger to apply Fresco Chalk Acrylic ( Banana, Cerise, Cerulean and Electric Violet ) on the Smoothy ( Heavyweight ) A4 white card. I then stamped Tracy's lovely floral stamp set 061 and 058 ( TS061, TS058 ) Fuchsia and Magnolia and Mandala set 055 ( TS055) in Ranger Archival ink ( Jet Black ) on the card and  cut them to use as the focal point of each envelope. Also I used masterboards leftover as a rectangular and circular cutlayer.

The final touch is  the addition of the sentiment from Emma Godfrey's flower set 14 ( EEG14 ) to the holder.

The theme of Sustainable Crafting was bit difficult for me, and thinking about how to reuse limited resources - I need to use up lots of my old supplies too. Also I made this because I think it's about being able to collaborate and create/work with stamps and stencils from wonderful designers and then turn it into something good. Then share it with people and have fun connecting all the time.

Hope you enjoy it.
Thank you so much for visiting.

NEW PaperArtsy Products: Tracy Scott {May 2021}

 Tracy Scott Collection
May 2021 New Product Announcement

A note from Leandra:
Tracy and I started planning these paints well over a year ago, but getting them over the final few hurdles was a bit of a mission with us moving to France and covid making things a bit more interesting logistically for us and our suppliers too! Tracy knew orange was a high priority, and we initially worked on patina shades of greenish-blues, but after rejecting loads of options, we settled on these gorgeous summery clean blues for a few reasons:
1. the extra clarity and brightness of these blues was irresistibly gorgeous
2. the way all 4 colours sit so well with existing colours in Tracy's collection and
3. the way these blues perfectly suit the bright oranges it's a match made in heaven!
And yes, they are all different to existing colours in the fresco range.

You will find Blue Oyster is the perfect lighter base for these blues, and if you really want to build depth, Tracy's Butternut is the ideal tonal base to use for these translucent oranges to build on, or as we always suggest, if you want them to 'pop', you can mix with white, then apply neat over top for the true colour. I'm sure you will have lots of fun with making contrasting pages with these colours and the lace booklet pages!

I'll leave Tracy to share with you her stamp and stencil insights - suffice to say they are all  stunning! Remember, these stamps are available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists for the next 3-6 months. With freight prices soaring due to fewer flights worldwide, it makes sense to buy locally within your country, see the list and links at the bottom of this blog post.

Tracy will be live in PaperArtsy People to share her samples and ideas, and our stockists will be there to share their links too!

Hi everyone, Tracy here

I'm here today to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and coordinating stencils, plus we have some paint and a lace booklet!

Can't believe we are here again, this year is just flying past !!
I'm so pleased to be able to share with you this next release, not only do I have stamps and stencils but a new lace booklet and some really yummy colours of paint which I know you will adore as much as I do... they are just sublime!
As always I have an eclectic mix of designs for you.. I do like to keep you guessing don't I?... but they all coordinate beautifully with not only each other but with previous releases.
Anyway lets get on with the reveal... grab a cuppa or a glass of something nice.... this might take some time haha.......

  New Stamps
Price: RRP €21.92 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, presented in a clear hanging bag
with a laminated storage/index sheet.

Tracy Scott Set 057 (TS057)

As with most of my designs, they don't necessarily start off as sets, I tend to sketch lots of images (I have a list of ideas that I add to all the time) and then very often they come together as sets without really realising it.
Its no secret that I love the damask and fleur-de-lis type designs as these have appeared before in either stamp or stencil form (so obviously these new designs will coordinate perfectly with older stamps and stencils, which is always a good thing..right?) but for a long time clocks and roman numerals have been on this list of things to sketch...and don't they all work perfectly together?

Tracy Scott Set 058 (TS058)

Well no surprise really that there were going to be some flower designs in there somewhere!!.
I decided this time to go for a more loose, sketchy type design and I just love how this one has turned out.
Its simpler lines are great to use for all types of mediums, above I have used with embossing powders, coloured pencils and paints and they all work perfectly, the designs themselves are also very easy to cut out and we all know how much cut elements appear in all of my projects so these worked out perfectly.
I think these are extremely versatile and will be equally at home on a scrapbook page, journal page, home decor project or a simple card.

Tracy Scott Set 059 (TS059)

So my last stamp set for this release.... Anyone who follows me knows how much I love to do stamps that are perfect for pattern play and the humble hexagon has been on my list for a long time.
However I also had the idea of doing a mandala/floral inspired bee stamp so it made complete sense the join the two concepts together and oh my!!... I'm so glad I did.
I absolutely adore this one and have already found so many different things to do with it... Yes its perfect for my beloved pattern play, the bee itself is a beautiful focal image on its own, but I've also used the bee wings and flower designs inside the hexagons to create the page flower above as well as using elements separately in other projects.
This one is a winner in my eyes for sure!.

New Stencils
Large Size: 6.25" x 9.5" (16 x 24cm) Price: RRP €6.28 +VAT

PaperArtsy Stencil 252 (PS252)

As I said earlier, clocks and Roman numerals had been on my list for a long time so it make sense to add a coordinating stencil into the collection!
And whilst these will match perfectly with the new stamps, I always want my stencils to be able to be used as stand alone products.
I've used the stencil above to give a dreamcatcher type vibe with 3D hanging elements on my decorated diary page and in the first sample I've used parts of the stencil to create background elements (did you notice the small pink flowers are actually just the centres of the clock stencil?I can see this one being extremely versatile and having lots of uses in the future.

PaperArtsy Stencil 253 (PS253)

How cool is this funky flowers stencil?
This one turned out way cooler that I had imagined when I started designing it.
It creates the coolest background as I have in the sample above but its also perfect to use as a template for doodling and of course hand cutting into your pages (I might have a sample coming up that showcases that technique... just saying!)
my next experiment is going to be to actually use the stencil as a template to make some individual cut out  funky flowers... can't wait to see how they turn out.

PaperArtsy Stencil 254 (PS254)

I had the hexagon stamps so just had to following it up with a hexagon stencil.
Again I wanted something that could be used with the stamps but would be robust enough to stand up to being used as a stand alone design element.
With its page spaces this one works perfectly as a template for hand cutting your pages as you can see in the first image.
And in the second image I've used the stencil in reverse in my decorated diary so that the outside are is black and the colour remains in the spaces.
Of course it can be used as a regular stencil too, or as a template for doodling and drawing but why not try using your stencils in a different way.

New Lacebooklet
Price: RRP €7.42 +VAT
Size:A4

Yay!!!!..... another lace booklet to play with!!
I just love these booklets and love coming up with all different ways to decorate them.
I love cutting my own pages in my journal but these definitely take the hard work and time out of creating a fantastic cut page.
They can be used as a stand alone booklet that can then be bound into a book at a later stage or as they are A4 in size they can be used as an insert into your regular journal, giving the look of a cut page without the hard work.
I can't wait to play some more, especially now I have new paint colours to play with!!.

New Tracy Scott Fresco Finish Paints
Price: RRP €4.58 +VAT
Size:50ml

And of course here are the existing 20 shades in Tracy's line...

All of the new paints are available to purchase now from PaperArtsy approved stockists. We do not put any new products on our website, so if you need to find them, the fastest way is to do a shout out on our FB group, PaperArtsy people (link at the foot). Plus, pinned to the top of that group are temporary paint charts until we replace ours which is increasingly imminent!!

Check out a couple of samples in my pocket patterns journal using the new colours...are they just devine.... (the colours not the samples obviously !!)

So lastly I've included a larger project below that combines some of the different stamps and stencils together in different ways... Enjoy....

Thank you so much for joining me again for the latest release, I truly appreciate your being here and don't forget that I will be going 'live' in the PaperArtsy People Facebook Group at 7:30PM BST to share these samples and maybe a few more!!!

Take care
Tracy
