Oooooh did someone say Christmas?! It seems to come around a little quicker every year! But we all like a little time to get prepped and ready, so here's a chance to get a head start with your festive creating, so I present to Christmas in September! This collection features Christmas collage stamps, large and a little bit silly festive mice, and a super-sized Santa and his not-so-little helper, along with three new stencil designs. The stencils feature a square which is perfect for framing an image, a set of four mini backgrounds including snowballs and festive stars, and something a little different for me; festive shapes to create embellishments for your cards, tags and even art journal pages. Let me share some ideas with you.
Lets take a look at this September 2026 release, starting with the stamps ......
Red Rubber Stamps (A5 set)
Price: RRP €23.00 +VAT
Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam, with a laminated storage/index sheet.
Kate Crane - A5 Stamp Set 024 {KC024}
Here we have a set of collage or framed Christmas images, featuring a whimsical tree, a cute little mouse with oversized ears, a reindeer with a sensationally large nose, and a cute robin bearing a romantic and cute little gift of mistletoe. These images are nicely contained within a frame so all of the background detail is there ready for you, You could simply colour and cut out and be ready to go!
In this example I have coloured the background with watercolours, cut out the mouse, coloured and raised it a little with 3-D foam.
Raising the image gives it a little extra definition, along with a few white pen scribbles and a bit of festive bling glitter. I mounted this onto a scrap of fabric and then a background of snowballs I created using Infusions and stencil PS530 (see more below)
And here is a similar idea but this time with the whimsical Christmas tree, covered with lashings of glittery snow of course.
Again I cut out the main image and raised it for a little definition, but you don't even have to do that. A very easy and nicely quick way to use these stamps would be to simply colour and cut around the larger rectangle shape. Good to go!
And you can see here that the snowflakes, star, and a bit of background mark making are all there in the background ready for you.
Here comes Rudolph!
As you can see this particular Rudolph has a magnificently large nose! I made the most of this with some dimensional glossy accents, I then cut it out and raised it a bit further with 3-D foam for maximum impact.
If you do decide to cut out Rudolph and raise him from the background you can leave his tricky little antlers right where they are - they'll still be perfectly well on show from your initial stamp.
And here we have a cute little Robin, something we all fondly link to the festive period.
You may notice that the stamp set also includes four quotes, which with a bit of careful aligning fit neatly under the image within the frame, for you to add your greeting.
And finally for the little mouse with his magnificently large ears. Although these collage/framed style stamps work perfectly well if you stamp them just as they are, you can also cut the image out and use it independently just like I did here. And if you look closely I wanted to make the most of those ears so I cut him out twice and layered them up for extra volume!
I coloured him in festive reds and greens but he would work perfectly well as a non-seasonal mouse in different colours.
Kate Crane - A5 Stamp Set 025 {KC025}
And now it's time for the rather silly, rather large mice. In a long dress, or pantaloons! A larger stamp like this works well for larger projects or as a large single feature on a card, but also can be cut down to a portrait head and shoulders to get maximum use out of your stamps.
One of the great things about using full size stamps like this is to use them free standing. This card opens out flat to fit inside a regular envelope but folds down to reveal a free-standing mouse, in a long dress! With a romantic gift of Mistletoe.
To make the most of his large ears I layered them up as before by simply stamping twice and folded the forward for plenty of volume. And you might notice a few snowballs in the background ... that's a bit of gesso through the new stencil PS530!
This time the mouse has some stylish voluminous pantaloons! it's interesting though, that they are looking very festive here due to the reds and greens that we associate with Christmas, but in fact differently coloured they aren't actually seasonal at all ... he just becomes a mouse in pantaloons wearing a bobble hat!
The background has been made with Infusions and features the new square stencil PS531.
Kate Crane - A5 Stamp Set 026 {KC026}
Ho ho ho! It's a super-sized Santa and his not so little helper! What a fun pair! Again these are large stamps, great for a single feature card or tag, useful for grouping on a larger journal page, but also great when cut down to a smaller head and shoulders.
So here is Santa coloured with watercolours, and allowed to stand freely by folding a card back as before.
I added a few stars as an embellishment by sponging through the new images stencil PS532 and adding them to strips of acetate behind Santa's head. It gives the illusion of floating stars!
There are a couple of quotes to go alongside Santa (these should get you singing!)
Of course every Santa needs a companion, so here we have Santa's little helper. Although actually he works perfectly well as a Santa too!
Here I have cut him down to head and shoulders to create a portrait for a card, and of course he needed a glossy nose!
You may have noticed a dangling star, which actually lays flat and fits perfectly well inside an envelope. Oh it's that new images stencil again! Just sponged through, cut out, and added to a strip of acetate.
And now for a larger project - an art journal page. What's better than one little helper for Santa? Three of course! I added three to an 8x8" art journal page and they fit rather nicely, standing in a row.
I began with a background of simple loose finger painting using Frescos in bright seasonal colours, and added some stencilling with the new stencils; a few snowballs and a few stars. Of course we all know that three is a magic number so I numbered the helpers accordingly!
You may have spotted a few piled up presents on the floor ready for Santa. I created these using the new stencil PS532.
Lots of white pen scribbles, glitter, a few additional stars, and Santa's little helpers are good to go!

Here's the background from my earlier journal page where I began with finger painting Frescos on a Kraft page in scruffy patches. Sponging snowballs, stars and some more general marks in white over the top really helped to pull the background together.
Adding a bit of white scribbling and doodling with a paint pen really adds to the layers too.
One of the most fabulous things about stencils is that are literally so many different ways to use them. In this example I made a background first using the new Square stencil and Infusions. Once it was dry I simply sponged with paint through PS530 to create a snowball effect, and then of course a few scribbles. Easy and very effective layering.
And here, a few more snowballs sponged through over a very watery Infusions background. A simple addition of a sponged stencil layer really can add a whole new dimension to a background.
PaperArtsy Stencil 530 by Kate Crane {PS531}
Oh I do like a stencil that frames an image. I have often shared my love of circles in the past but do you know I do love a square too?! Squares that build up like this to create a centre are great for framing an image and the centre is the perfect place to add a focal point.
I used Infusions and a lifting technique with a stencil that I have shared before. It's quick, easy and very effective.
You can see how the walnut crystals have developed here ....
A different look altogether is to use alcohol ink through a stencil on a gel plate. This technique allows you to do several pick up prints which generally create a more gentle background.
Here you can see how I used this print, the perfect place to frame a tree (more on this next!)
And another quick look at this little fella ... because now you can see he is happily sitting in the middle of a square!
PaperArtsy Stencil 530 by Kate Crane {PS532}
Well, this one was a bit of a departure for me, something a bit different. I had the idea of creating simple shapes by sponging through a stencil to create images and embellishments which could be used on their own as a main focal image or as an addition to other projects. It's surprisingly easy to do, although there are a few additional steps to really give these images the finishing touch.
There are stars, gifts, and trees, although if you get a bit clever with the gift you can use it as a Christmas tree stand too!
There are a few different ways to use this stencil but here you can see how I sponged through to create the gift, but then simply added few lines with a fine liner. Keep it wobbly though! Oh and a bit of stamping too using a previously released mini.
This tree was created by sponging through with watery Infusions, and then I added a bit more detail with Stencil PS530 to create a baubles effect. A bit of glossy accents and hey! Baubles!
A bit of texture stamping, some white pen scribbles and a Christmas tree is made. The stencil also has a star - perfect for the top of the tree!
And don't forget, stars like to dangle too!
So there you have my whimsical, sometimes silly, but always fun selection of stamps and stencils to kick off the festive season. I'm sure you will get super-creative making cards, tags, Christmas decorations, journal pages ... and I can't wait to see!
