A TRIO OF TULIPS with ELB {by Martine Dubé}

Hello everyone, Martine here! Today I wanted to create different project using the same image and background. I will be making a couple of art journal pages, a card and some ATC all made with PaperArtsy stamps set by Lin Brown and some infusions and a few more supplies.

Here are the stamp sets and supplies I've used to create this project. The stamp sets are  ELB23-ELB24-ELB30-ELB33, the infusions are Terracotta and Emerald Isle and the  Fresco Finish chalk acrylics used is Little black dress.

I love working on loose pages, I find it easier than working in a book. the finished project can become a book by sewing a spine to my pages or with book binding ring.

I started by preparing my infusions, be careful not to add to much if you want your background to be somewhat light. They can get dark very quickly if too much pigment is used.

Then I applied my first color of infusions with a brayer with a very light hand just to make a few marks of color but not cover the hole page. I left some white space where I will add more layers later, repeated the same process with your second color.  You can add more colors if you wish.

Next I added some splatters using one of the colors..

To finish the base part of my pages, I added another layer using a stencil with some matching distress oxide ink.

I chose some small circle and text stamp to create layers by stamping them randomly on my backgrounds using the same matching distress oxide inks.

I then went over some of the marks with water to activate the ink to create a darker contrast.

                                               

The last step for my backgrounds was to add some black splatter with little black dress fresco finish chalk paint and a black marker.

Next, it's time to stamp the chosen flowers. I went for the tulip since it's one of my favorite flowers. I've stamped several since I'm making a few projects at the same time. 

I started coloring very precisely but then realised it wasn't necessary.  I was going to be fussy cutting everything after. I also colored the edges of the cut images, it helps polishing the final look of your project. You can do it with either a black marker or using matching colors like I did.

Next, I prepared some ripped pieces paper that where colored on both side with infusions and created some stripe paper using tape to add on my journal pages and my cards.

The sewing part is always one of my favorites; it always adds a little something to a project!

Here I'm showing how the spines for my journal pages are made.

Now it's time to put everything together and create pages and cards.

I used black cardstock to create a frame behind some of my background before gluing them on my card base and journal page.

To add dimension, I've use some 3d foam tape on the flowers.

And to finish, stamped and cut the sentiments for my finish pages.

Here are my assembled pieces showing that, with the same background, you can make a variety of different projects.

2024 Topic 7: (Gel) Printing {by Etsuko Noguchi} on the PaperArtsy Blog

Hi everyone, It's Etsuko Noguchi from My favorite things with you today and I am very happy to have the opportunity to play with the stamps and stencils designed by Lin Brown.

Lin Brown's stamps are one of the older PaperArtsy collections now, but Lin was the first PaperArtsy designer I discovered when I first found PaperArtsy. Her love of nature is at the heart of her varied works and makes me happy. That is the main reason why I chose her work for this theme. With these designs today I decided to make a 'Tag Folio'.

For the stamps I used Lin Brown stamp sets 02, 31 (ELB02, ELB31), I chose a carved pattern and a set of leaves and marks, and for my favorite PaperArtsy Stencil by Lin Brown (PS001 and PS006) I chose bubbles and ferns. For the colours, blue was added to green and purple to differentiate the colours on the front and back of the Tag Folio. PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Bermuda, Slimed, Purple Majesty, Bougainvillea, Shutters and Southern Skies.

At first I tried a single print with leaves.

(A) Place a sheet of printer paper on top of the plate and rub firmly to remove all the paint around the leaves, remove the paper and the leaves. 

(B) then A paper on the plate again and rub the paper. The leaf shape and veins are then printed on the white part of the paper. 

Figure (C) shows a leaf that was removed and rubbed onto another piece of paper with paint on it.

Various prints were attempted before making the production.

Now it's time to introduce the paints for today's project Tag Folio. For the folio, I decided on the colours green and purple for the front and back and worked on them. And for the theme ‘Nature’ I collected the leaves that are currently in the garden and used them for Gel Printing.

I used PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Bermuda, Slimed, Purple Majesty, Bougainvillea, Shutters and Southern Skies.

It was decided that these two print papers would be pasted onto the back of the cards cut in the tag shape and used as a background for the folio.

Ranger's Texture Paste Crackle was used by PS006 stencil on the blue card that would form the cover, and when dry and cracked, Southern Skies and Little Black Dress were watered down and applied.

The cover layer was cut from leftover paper using a slide mount die and a small cluster was made in its pocket using an ELB02 stamps and inserted.

For the inner middle folio I used the same Ranger Texture Paste Crackle with Bubble Stencil PS001 and after it had dried I watered down and painted Purple Majesty and Little black dress

This tag has a cute tulip ELB02 slide pocket, which will be explained later.

The embellishments were made using printed paper that was not used for the background.

The tulip ELB02 image was attached to the vellum pocket as shown in the previous picture.

For folio I have created two lidded pockets, a tulip pocket and a memo. The covers of the pockets and memo are made of vellum paper so that the underlying printed pattern can be seen through. The ELB31 pattern stamps on the pocket lid paper with PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Snowflake, Slimed, Bermuda, Purple Majesty and Southern Skies to match the background colour.

A pocket of pattern paper and vellum paper only it was not enough, so a Scalloped image of ELB31 was embossed on the edges with blue and purple embossing powder using VersaMark.

The pretty floral pattern of ELB02 was then stamped in Snowflake on paper painted with Purple Majesty, bordered with a Signo White pen, cut and added on the lids.

Ephemera were made with Alison Bomber (Alison's tissue) and Scrapcosy's PT005 PaperArtsy Printed Tissue painted and placed in the pockets.

The resulting ephemeras and clusters fit into their own pockets.

The fourth side of the Folio foldover is blue and the ELB31 maple leaf motif is made in the same colour and rhinestones are added to both sides for decoration.

Light coloured paper from gel printing was used for notepaper. The ELB02 butterfly image was stamped on the first paper and allowed to show through the vellum paper.

I dyed the ribbon fabric and cheesecloth using blueberries which is the theme of this project another 'Nature'.  A bright dark pink at first, but as it dried it changed to a brownish vintage-style pink.

Finally,the ribbon is stamped with the words THE BEAUTIFUL OF A GARDEN in ELB02 and Scallop in ELB31 using Ranger Archival Ink - Blue Violet.

This was the theme ‘Nature’ and the production process of Topic7 Gel Printing.

The theme ‘Nature’ is all around us, Gel Printing is a technique that you may be familiar with as it has been introduced on the internet as single, double and ghost printing.  Gel Printing is still a fun technique, such as using different colours, Mattint colours at the last stage, or spraying Infusions dissolved in water, which is a topic for another time!
