2019 #16 Stamp Carving: Triple Anomaly {by Bryan Evans}

2019 Topic 16: Stamp Carving

It's great learning about different products for carving into, but Bryan's is surely the most original (I'm definitely stealing his idea!). He's got three fab projects encompassing different substrates with some gorgeous new Fresco colours.

Hi everyone, it's Bryan here from geezercrafter with you today, and I'd like to share with you  my projects using some carved stamps. I wanted to make some simple but bold stamps that I could use with some of the new colours in the Fresco Acrylic Paint range.

My carved stamps come from an old rubber wellington boot that we use as a door stop!! I kept the design simple as I wanted to highlight the new Fresco colours.

Using the PaperArtsy brayer onto some Smoothy Heavyweight stamping card, I made some marks and patterns with Calypso Fresco Acrylic Paint. I added Cloud 9 and Truffle to get some different shades.

I added a watery mix of Truffle before using my stamps with Cayenne. I tried to make each 'stamp' a different shade by adding Cloud 9 and Truffle to Calypso.

In my large Mixed Media Journal, I made a background using Calypso and Cayenne. My intention was to use the brayer to both add paint to my stamp, and to stamp onto the background. I noticed the pattern left on the brayer, so decided to use this instead.

I continued alternating between Calypso, Cayenne and Truffle. Love the effect of the translucency and opaque effect of each colour.

I have wanted to make a fabric journal for some time now. On a piece of fine weave hessian, I mapped out a design stamping with Cloud 9. The Fresco's are a dream onto this fabric.

I continued adding layers of Cayenne and Calypso; very pleased with the result.

I had a lot of fun with these 3 projects, making shades and tints, and trying out new substrates. I am looking forward to trying some more of the new range of colours to add to my fabric journal. Don't forget to add your creations to the PaperArtsy Facebook page and to Instagram.

Thank you for joining me today, happy creating!!

2019 #10 Tiled Patterns: Card Quilting with Minis {by Bryan Evans}

2019 Topic 10: Tiled Patterns

Just as I'm thinking people don't use yellow enough, along comes another blogger with fabulous use of yellow. Will there be a third?? Bryan brings a ray of sunshine, inspired by a quilt-block. ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Bryan here from Geezer Crafter with you today, and I'd like to share with you my tiled project using some of the Mini range of stamps.

I wanted to create a pattern using some triangles. I don't usually create in such a 'staged' way, if you never step out of your comfort zone, you will never know!

Using some Infusions Dye Stain In The Navy, and some Ranger Multi Medium Matte, I made some marks onto the surface of Smoothy Heavyweight Card. I love how the rough bristles of the old paintbrush leave some cool marks.

Great fun making marks, splogging watery mixes of Fresco Acrylic Chalk Paint in Blue Lagoon, Glacier Ice and Seaglass.

Letting each layer dry before the next.

A dried piece of grapevine makes for some fab marks.

I love how a watery layer of Yellow Submarine Fresco Paint reacted with the white embossed repeat pattern of Mini 69, 70 and Jofy JM38.

Several layers of Banana, Tango and Zesty Zing.

I cut up both pieces into 4" by 4" squares, then cut into triangles, I didn't take into account how large the finished piece would be, a massive 12" by 12". My inspiration came from a picture of a quilt block made from triangles.

I really enjoyed this project, it opened up my mind to new things, very exciting. I did find however I adhered the triangles with PVA, this only gave me a very short working time adjusting the pieces as I went. I remember reading or seeing somewhere that a gel medium dries much slower, so next time that will be my glue of choice.

Thanks for joining me today, Happy Creating!!  Bryan.

2019 #4: Tick Tock: 'Cuckoo' with ETS {by Bryan Evans}

2019 Topic 4: Tick Tock

Bryan is our experimental geezer, and this time he's conjured up a cuckoo inspired clock in some really nice fresh colours and a splash of gold. ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Bryan from Geezer Crafter with you today, and I'd like to share with you my 'cuckoo' clock project using one of the new stamp sets from Tracy Scott.

As soon as I saw this set of stamps the idea for the clock and the 'parts' came straight to mind. Just love the sketchy feel to this set.

I found the filler/spreader tool shown below in a DIY store, makes for a great painting tool!!. I used Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in Seaglass, Pine Grove, Blah Mange, Jade and Coral.

I painted some rice paper with Seaglass before adding some gold embossed powder. I did try it the other way round, not a good idea for me!!.

Smoothy Heavy weight card for the clock's pendulum and weights. I love how a coat of Seaglass has dulled down the gold embossing a little.

Another view in a different light. Love the paperclay beak!!

Really enjoyed this project, I always find it amazing that a set of stamps can set off so many ideas. I am looking forward to seeing how you interpret the topic, and how use your stamps!!

Thanks for joining me today, Happy Creating!! Bryan.

2018 #21 Matchbox Art: Crushed with HP {by Bryan Evans}

 2018 Topic 21: Matchbox Art

We can always rely on Bryan to come up with something just that little bit different. And on this occasion, crushed matchboxes are the order of the day. Bryan has a great commentary on his creative process. Fun! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Bryan from Geezer Crafter with you today, and I'd like to share with you my collage using one of the new sets of Hot Picks stamps, some of the new Fresco Paint range, and a stencil by Sara Naumann.

My collage came to life from this stamp. I was rearranging the letters to make a new word.

I like incorporating parchment within my collages as a different texture.

PaperArtsy Stencil 090 (PS090)

Loved how the Versafine Smokey Grey inked through Sara Naumann stencil 090 resisted some of the layer of Fresco Chalk Paint Mustard Pickle.

Very pleased how the crushed matchboxes added interest and texture to my collage. Tissue paper glued and sealed with Ranger Multi Medium Matte worked for me.

Love the combination of Surf's Up and Mustard Pickle.

Love the target stamp!!. Addition of 'do' aided by the use of a Uniball Signo Gel Pen.

I was going to use the 'flower' part of this stamp, but I do also like using the negative spaces left behind when cutting out elements. So I went with that.

I really enjoyed working with matchboxes, love the effect of them being crushed!! I am looking forward to seeing some 'alternative' match box art. Next time I must remember to add the interest of stencils within my art. Really enjoyed using parts of stamps and cutting up stamped images.

Happy Crafting. Bryan.
