2018 #19 Tissue Paper: Fly with ETS {by Claire Snowdon}

 2018 Topic 17: Tissue Paper

Loving how Claire has effortlessly left white space in this spread, so calming! The watery paint into the texture around the edges is fab. Stencils lead you gently between the two zones to create a peaceful, serene spread. Totally gorgeous! ~Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Claire Snowdon with you today. I'd like to share with you a double spread journal page I made.

Art journaling is my go to crafting project - I love the freedom of it and the choice of journals in all sorts of sizes, colours and paper types that are now available is just vast!  However for this project I choose to create in an old book - I glued two of the pages together for each side to make it a little bit more sturdy......

My first layer was a thin coat of white gesso - just to knock back the text a little.  Then I got to work creating texture and layers with plain white tissue paper that I crumpled up and adhered with gel medium.  I also added strips of Dina Wakley tissue paper - this is fab as it comes in all sorts of patterns and you can also get plain pieces to create your own unique tissue paper.

I used Fresco Finish paints in Sargasso, Chalk, Limelight and China to add colour to the page.  I watered them down and spread them around over the tissue paper texture with a palette knife.

I wanted extra texture on the page so added the scribble stamp from ETS14 over the tissue paper.  Then stamped the flowers (also from ETS14), butterfly and that fab word stamp: FLY.  These are from the stamp plate ETS22.

I used Prima watercolours to add a splash of contrasting colours to the butterfly.

It still wasn't quite there so I got out the stencils and used stencil PS111 to do both regular and reverse stencilling - I love reverse stencilling.....every time I do it I am surprised by how effective it looks!

Lastly I stamped out the quote from EAB07 onto tissue paper and adhered it with gel matt medium so it blends nicely with the background.

Overall I love the texture the crumpled tissue paper gave to my pages - it really makes it dimensional.  Creating in an old book is a great way to practise and relax and have fun without worrying about ruining a new journal.

I hope I could inspire you to have a go and create something using tissue paper texture. Don't forget to link your project to the challenge page. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
