 2016 Topic 10: Doodles

Hi everyone Hazel Agnew here. Tonight I'd like to share with you my decorated box; a combination of some of my favourite stamps, a recycled box and embellished with lots of flowery doodles.

I find doodling very relaxing, and I now have a notebook with collections of various styles and subjects which I have collated for reference. 

Step One: First, I covered my box, which contained chipboard letters. I used dictionary and manuscript paper and vintage papers from my stash. I glued them with Multi Medium Matte.

Step Two: Next, I stamped my main images using Black Archival onto some background paper. Because of the musical notation, the faces didn't stand out enough, so I stamped them again onto less patterned paper and glued them over the top. The stamps are some of my favourites. They are MN07 and MN10.

 Step Three: Next, I doodled flowers around the images using a Black Fudeball pen, and, using watercolour crayons, coloured them in what I hope looks like a shabby chic finish. I also added a metal tag sentiment, and some roses to add to the nostalgia. The lace helped to frame the scene.

Step Four: I treated the inside of the box much like the outside, with various papers, paint washes and Vintage photo distress ink. I also added lace around the window and lace as an opening tab and another photo from MN13 with a little wooden frame. The Prima flower just gives it a finishing touch.

Step Five: To age the outside of the box, I painted Fresco French Roast roughly around the papers. Allowed it to dry. Added PaperArtsy Crackle Glaze, allowed to dry and overpainted with Fresco Mermaid. This gave me a lovely aged crackle finish. I added some stamped script and a few random pictures, finishing off with a bow and another Prima flower.

I hope that this has inspired you to have a little doodle. I find that if I am stuck for images to doodle, then I Google a title like "flowers", and add the word doodles and hey presto, images are there to play with. I find that doodling can be very relaxing and colouring in also.
