Treasure Chest {with Eclectica³ Darcy and Hot Picks Stamps by Helen Chilton}

Hi Everyone, Helen here. This month I've made a 3D piece of art that you won't know what to do with, but it was great fun to make. It's quite relaxing to have no particular agenda but just to make what you like!

Here it is, a deep sea treasure chest:

It started out as a little papier mache chest with a domed top which I painted with Mermaid and Snowflake Fresco Finish paints.  I stamped up some tissue paper with a row of the anchor image from Hot Pick 1201, flipped it over and painted the anchor in Mushroom Fresco Finish paint on the back:

This was then glued all round the box with Satin Glaze:

After that I wanted something to go inside the box to make it look deep sea-ish, so used the swirly flourish from the Eclectica Darcy 07 set of stamps. It made wonderful seaweed - just stamp on tissue paper, paint it, tear it out and stick all round the inside of the box. As the colours used here, Hey Pesto and Hyde Park, are translucent, I didn't flip the tissue over, but painted it on the stamped side.

Next cut a length of 1mm wire and curl into a spiral, then flatten out gently with a hammer (I say gently because it can get quite brittle):

To attach to the box, poke a hole in the side, thread a wooden bead onto wire,  thread wire through hole and add another bead. Twist end of wire and glue beads in place. Make another spiral in the same way to go nearer the front.

Stamp, cut out and paint two fish and glue to spirals.

There we are, my bit of seaside art!
Until next time, Helen

A huge thanks to Helen from all at PaperArtsy HQ, How fab is this seaside box, any fisherman would be proud of that catch. I especially love the way the outside looks, it really does have the appearance of a wooden chest!

I love this, Helen, particularly the way the background of the anchor stamp forms the wood of the crate,
