Welcome Back GD: Kate Yetter Project #1 Shadowbox Art Doll

"Hello everyone, Kate here. I am excited to be back with you this month. Today’s project is one that I have been eager to try for a while but have never had the time. I have always wanted to make an art doll and the Lynne Perrella stamps I am using were perfect…so here we go"!

The PaperArtsy products used were as follows: 8x8 Box Canvas, LPC001, LPC029, Chatsworth Paper Collection, Fresco Finish Paints  and Grunge Paste.

I flipped my box canvas over to use it like a shadow box. I painted the front and sides with Irish Cream.

I used a palette knife to spread Grunge Paste over my chosen stencil.

After I applied the Grunge Paste I let it dry.

I painted a layer of French Roast over top of the canvas and Grunge Paste.

Being careful not to cover up all the color underneath, I applied Bora Bora with a paint brush. I left a lot of dark areas, especially around the Grunge Paste, to give the appearance of a patina finish.

I cut a piece of Chatsworth paper to fit the inside of the frame.

I used several laces from my stash and glued them to cover the background.

I sprayed the background with hot pink ink.

I then sprayed with teal and allowed it to drip a little.

I stamped the head for my art doll from LPC001. I colored her in with Distress Markers.

I stamped the body of my doll from LPC029 and colored it in with Orchid, Vanilla and Bora Bora.

I cut out the head and attached it to the body. I used a Spellbinders Die for the arms and legs. I attached them with mini brads.

For the skirt, I cut a piece of Chatsworth paper, crinkled it up and glued it down to the doll .

I glued a layer of tulle over the top of the skirt.

I added a piece of lace to define the waist.

I added a bit more fiber to the waist and some trim to the bottom of the skirt.

I added some buttons to the head dress.

A bit of sparkle is added to the ribbon with Stickles.

Finally I added some word stickers and glued to a book plate, a few flowers are added to embellish the finished shadow box.

I hope you have enjoyed tonight's project, join me again tomorrow evening when we take a completely different approach to .... ahhh that would be telling!

~Kate~

Leandra Says: Loving the tulle detail on the skirt, that is a neat added touch. Wonderful effects from the Grunge Paste and Lace.

Gillian Says: Lots of great textures going on in this project Kate, I like the aged patina effect and the art doll skirthas great dimension.

Clever to turn your box canvas around to make a shadow box......loved your doll and all the creative techniques that were used. So often we have these great projects in our mind to do and just don't take the time to follow through. I've found that if I start a couple of new projects I will follow through with them by alternating them while one dries or while I figure out just what I need to do with the other. You've made me want to try a doll of my own. Thanks so much for sharing each step you took....inspiring.
