Altered Frame {with Eclectica³ Lin Brown Stamps by Sue Carrington}

Hello ! It's Sue here and tonight I'm sharing a little altered frame using the fabulous stamps by Lin Brown and Ellen Vargo.

I started with a small MDF frame that has a shallow recess.

I then painted around the edge with Inky Pool Fresco Finish paint. When that was dry I then mixed Little Black Dress with some Satin Glaze as I didn't want it to dry too quickly and the Satin Glaze keeps the paint open for longer. I then painted over the top of the of the Inky Pool and dried it just enough for the paint to go dull but not completely dry. I then used some kitchen roll and rubbed the black paint to reveal the Inky Pool underneath.

I then took a piece of Heavy Smoothy Card and gave it a wash of South Pacific Fresco Finish paint. I then used a brayer with the same colour and gave the card another coat.

I then used two of the stamps from the Ellen Vargo 02 set using Inky Pool Fresco Finish paint.

I stamped the sentiment from the Lin Brown 05 set using black Archival ink. I was going to leave it at that but felt it needed something more, so I decided on the lovely flower from Lin Brown's 005 stencil. I used South Pacific and then some Inky Pool in the centre. I was happy that the paints I used were translucent as I didn't want to completely obliterate the stamping.

I then started to create the flowers and leaves. I painted some more Heavy Smoothy card with watered down South Pacific Fresco Finish paint. I then stamped the tulip from the Lin Brown 08 stamp set die cut them using the Tulip 1 die. I used a piece of cut 'n' dry to add some Little Black Dress around the edge of the shapes.

ELB08

I stamped the small flowers from the Lin Brown 04 set using Little Black Dress Fresco Finish and cut them out.

ELB04

The leaves from the same set have all been stamped using Little Black Dress too and I've then cut them out.

I assembled the leaves and flowers onto the frame. I then added some little plastic flowers to the centre of the three small flowers, that have been painted with Little Black Dress and then brushed with Aquamarine Treasure Gold.

The metal corner embellishment has been painted with Little Black Dress and then I've brushed Aquamarine Treasure Gold over it too. To finish I rubbed a little more Treasure Gold around the edge of the frame.

I hope you've enjoyed tonight's project and look forward to being back soon!

A huge thanks to sue from all at PaperArtsy HQ. What a beautiful,elegant project. The contrast between blue and black is perfect, but of course this could be interpreted in any colour scheme,making this an ideal home decor piece. Choosing  translucent paints is such an effective way to build up subtle layers.
