Oct '25 - With 3 Things - The Misidentified Tag Book of Birds {by Tracy Hickman}

Hi friends,

It's Tracy Hickman aka @anonymous.palette with you for another 'With 3 Things' challenge post.

For this feature on the PaperArtsy Blog 3 identical items are sent to 3 members of the PaperArtsy Blogging team. Typically we will receive a stamp, a stencil and a couple of Fresco Paints.

We have no clue what PaperArtsy HQ is going to send, the whole idea of this challenge is to do something crafty in our personal style with these 3 items. We can incorporate other PA products into the mix if we feel it is necessary.

So let's take a look at what I received from PA HQ:

Today I have made “The Misidentified Weathered Tag Book of Birds” using Printed Tissue PT11-Birds and stamps from Eclectica set EGL19 by Gwen Lafleur in a new favorite color combo of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics, Pumice and Coastal (new colors from July 2025!). Let’s take a closer look….

9 individual Tags are bound together by a ring and housed in a bird’s nest below.

I grabbed some PaperArtsy Smoothly Heavy Card stock and created 9 tags. I LOVE this card stock as it lays perfectly flat when all assembled with no warping!

I decided to experiment on how well tissue birds would adhere to transparency film using Soft Gel Medium and boy, what results!

A generous amount of gel medium painted on the film, place down a bird and gently add another layer of gel medium on top. The tissue disappears and leaves beautiful translucent images!

Dried and ready for fussy cutting…. The next steps involved painting and weathering the tags:

An imperfect application of PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylic In Chocolate Pudding for contrast
with a thin coat of PaperArtsy Crackle Glaze applied with a key card on top.

Using my two supplied Fresco chalk acrylics in Pumice and Coastal (a new favorite combo) I attempted to ombré the tags by mixing up straight Pumice on top, a mix of both Pumice and Costal in the middle and straight Coastal on the bottom.  Absolutely loved the effect with the dark cracking showing through.

Some stamping using the PaperArtsy Eclectica set EGL19 by Gwen Lafleur with Archival Inks by Ranger followed by some embossing in Beeswax Baked Texture Powder by Seth Apter for a nice bit of transparent texture.

Making some ephemera with a few of the other awesome stamps in this set.

Creating the inside cover using the bingo card stamped on transparency film and colored with alcohol ink on the clean side.  I adhered this to a clear pocket card found at Staples.

Kiwi Gold Fresco Chalk Acrylic to make the eyes pop!

A close up of the texture, stamping, embossing, ephemera, and labeling.

I used ChatGPT to try and identify these bird illustrations and not sure how accurate it was, but went with what it spit out, hence the name of this project: “The Misidentified Weathered Tag Book Of Birds”.

The finished inside cover which highlights a vintage gambling coin on top of the pocket and houses a book image of bird eggs and a strip of vintage calligraphy to draw the eye down.

I had such a fun time creating this project and can’t wait to use tissue on transparency film again, maybe I’ll even get crazy and attempt coloring the birds ;)

🎨 Creative Wishes to All!

Tracy Hickman
