2020 #14 Beeswax Fun with Sara Naumann stamps {by Ellie Knol}

 2020 Topic 14: Fused

This Fused topic certainly has had our bloggers going in many different directions. Ellie has chosen an exploration with paint, beeswax and stamping. The effect she's created by stamping in Beeswax and then rubbing with Perfect Pearls is fabulous and definitely one to try!
~ Keren

Hi everyone,
Ellie Knol from PAPER-STAMPS-COLOR, happy to be w
ith you today! Fused? ... Beeswax comes to my mind straight away, but only after fused glass!

I chose to use beeswax as it is so versatile, and easy to combine with all sorts of materials, product and inclusions, like beads, tapes, paints, cheesecloth etc.. and it's very forgiving!

As always I make notes first, before starting on a theme. Notes about what base I might want to use, what product and which technique.
One of these notes has corrugated cardboard as the base, as it will give a lot of texture to the project. I primed both boards with a layer of gesso and Snowflake Fresco Finish after tearing off part of the top layer of paper only on the edges

I used a stencil, PS091 to add texture paste to the background.

Tissue paper or even rice paper gets fused very easily to a surface with beeswax.

I used a piece of blank rice paper to stamp the main images on, heat embossed it with clear embossing powder and fused that onto the background with beeswax.

I've used the beautiful organic stamps from the stamp sets ESN41 and ESN43 from Eclectica designer Sara Naumann

Using beeswax as the first layer takes painting Fresco Finish paints to this surface to a whole new level. Before applying the first layer of paint, use a heat tool to heat the beeswax and let the melted wax drip back into the melting pot.

I chose semi- and transluscent Fresco Finish Paints to keep it see-through!
The colors I chose were: Beach Hut and Brown Shed mostly, and Tangerine Twist as an extra to part of the colored areas.
Don't cover the whole background with paint.
When dry, remove color with a damp cloth, to get a peeled-paint effect.  Also remove color from the stenciled structure paste to reveal the flowers. You might want to add a little more color at this stage.. maybe even add a layer of beeswax again.

Stamp script onto the edges in black. Leave to dry.
Add another layer of beeswax, and heat it to make the wax more see-through again and of course to trap the paint between layers of beeswax. Let the excess drip back into the melting pot.
Now for extra fun, add some more beeswax in certain areas, heat it and stamp into it, small areas at a time. When this has cooled down, wipe  perfect pearls over the raised areas, in a pearl and rust color for instance. It will enhance the stamping into the wax.

I particularly like the effect of the (peeled) Fresco paints and the stamping into the beeswax, with the Perfect Pearls to enhance it.

As mentioned in the beginning of this post, I wanted to add inclusions, like beads, tapes, paints, cheesecloth etc..
Why didn't I add beads and cloth or tapes? I chose to stop adding more, as it would distract from the main image... less is more sometimes.
I intend to give it a try, adding beads to the wax, or cheesecloth.. maybe apply the focal image at the end of the process.. there's no right or wrong, just endless possibilities.
You might want to use the notes I've made for a personal project?! Have a go, and show it to me, please!

Thanks for visiting the Paper Artsy blog .. enjoy crafting!

Take care,
Ellie Knol
