August 2019 New Product Announcement
A note from Leandra:
We are always excited for a JoFY release, and this one is no exception! I've been using them loads lately, and they are super fun! The long stems, the matching stencils, it all allows you to go detailed or super simple.

Hi
everyone, Jo Firth-Young here with my latest set of stamps and stencils
- I've been so looking forward to sharing these with you.
This release, to me, seems like a fun summery set of stamps and stencils... the medium sized funky flowers (JOFY80, JOFY81) look great when set among the smaller more background styled flowers on JOFY82... great for mixing and matching - which is how I like to use my stamps from across the whole range.
The
samples I made are a little different (for me) - I went BIG on an art
journal spreads and smaller on cards and a wood block... its great to
see how differently they can be used. This release, to me, seems like a fun summery set of stamps and stencils... the medium sized funky flowers (JOFY80, JOFY81) look great when set among the smaller more background styled flowers on JOFY82... great for mixing and matching - which is how I like to use my stamps from across the whole range.
Today
and tomorrow you will see ideas with these stamps from myself and
another of the Team PA Bloggers. You can also see plenty of activity on
PaperArtsy's Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. (links at the foot
of this post). No matter what your
preferred social media platform, we will be sharing with you!
Let's check out these new beauties, some ideas from each set and a couple of projects.

OMGoodness.... its just so pretty!
I've
created several versions of this art journal
spread - this one is created in a medium sized Dylusions journal which
is
really my 'go-to' size... later in this post you can see another
version using a mash up of various stamps sets made in a bigger journal .
I like to use the stencils and stamps to layer up and create a scene.
BUT, sometimes I find that 'less-is-more' is just as pretty - like this journal spread in a small Dylusions journal. I used water colour paints to colour these - adding in a touch of neon, interference and metallic colours... I really like the simplicity of these pages.
JoFY Collection Set 81 (JoFY81)
When
I'm creating projects using my stamps I often 3D mount a flower's
centre or motif onto the flower - and with this in mind I've started
adding these elements as separate stamps on the sets.
The stand alone flower on this set is the same as the embellishment flower on the large 'flower' - it'll fit perfectly - which is also helpful for paper piecing designs. AND it also makes a great background image when teamed with the co-ordinating stencil design - shown in the photo below, and in more detail later in this post.
The stripy strip on the bottom right of the index sheet can be used as an extension for the main flower's stalk or a stripy border - you choose! lol

Is
it a flower, is it a cactus?!? It depends how you colour the big
flower on this stamp set. The samples I've made show you how it can be
both.
On the sample below its flower... (the stripy border makes an appearance top left of this card too)
.. and on this sample, with a change of colour scheme & addition of extra leaves, its a cactus! It makes me smile!
JoFY Collection Set 82 (JoFY82)
You'll
see them dotted about on projects in this blog post and below I've used
them as the main feature on a colourful ombre painted tag.
.
I added Pearl Glaze to the background with PS149, the stencil that accompanies this stamp set... I like the 'now you see it, now you don't' effect of Pearl Glaze as it catches the light.

I've
designed a stencil of scribbles - its is a lovely (and versatile)
background! I am so happy with how it looks when blending Distress
Oxide inks with a blending brush (see next stencil sample for more about
those lovely additions to my art kit!).
PaperArtsy Stencil 148 (PS148)
This
is a stencil where the designs match up with stamps - the leaves and
flowers from JOFY81. You can see the completed card in the samples for
the stamp set near the top of this blog post, here I wanted to show you
the blended detail.
I'm
a big fan of less is more - and this card is definitely that! So happy
with how the simple stencil and matching stamping creates a cute
pattern, accented with a touch neon pink gel pen.
PaperArtsy Stencil 149 (PS149)
I used the stencil to create a card with stamps from the coordinating stamp set - how lovely are the soft tones of Distress Oxides I've used (Bundled Sage, Iced Spruce), applied with a blending brush (my new favourite tool!)
I like
to change the direction of a repeated stencil - it makes for a more
interesting, less regimented background pattern. Here you can see how
I've (CLEANED and) flipped the stencil and applied a second colour. Also changing the height again can make a difference too.
A
quick detour from the 'summer' theme of this post for a moment - here's
a little something for those of you getting twitchy about starting your
Christmas (yes, I said Christmas) crafty makes and Christmas cards...
When I was creating the sample above & I happened to rotate it 90
degrees... and it reminded me of icicles... so here is my first christmas winter sample for you... I thought it was too lovely not to include...
Project One: Floral Wood block
I
have a batch of 10x20cm lightweight wood blocks that I use to make
small projects... lots of craft shops stock these - or you could create a
similar design on a greeting card as the size is very similar to a DL
greeting card.
I've previously stamped and painted this stamp set and so for this project I wanted to use paper piecing with printed papers - is an quick 'n' easy way to introduce pattern into the design. This will appeal to the 'fussy-cutting' fans out there in craft land.

I
covered the block with vintage music papers and washed over the top
with diluted Chalk paint to knock back the black print, and dabbed
undiluted paint around the edges to cover the print further. I stamped the grid pattern onto all four corners (it echoes the grid around the edges of the leaves).
Then I got busy choosing the scrapbook papers to use for the flowers and leaves. I chose patterns with similar levels of 'distress' to the pattern, and stamped leaves and flowers on onto them (Archival Ink, Black). I cut out and assembled the different pieces and started positioning them on the wood block.
Some of the flowers are mounted flush to the surface while others are on 3d foam. The stamped images are quite solid so I added a seed-head die cut to add detail and break up the exposed areas on the background.

Project Two: Bursting with Summer Blooms
I
created this dimensional art journal spread for one of the workshops on
my recent trip to Australia. I wanted to include it in this blog
release post because it uses stamps (& a stencil) from each of the
stamp plates released today.
Here I'll explain how the new stamps and stencils were used on this very summery page.
The inside pages are painted and stamped with tall sketched flowers. The pop-out pages are painted in a mix of Zucchini and Chalk. The background is stencilled with PS149 - in Zucchini - all across the page, altering the height to accommodate the aperture.

The feature flowers (in shades of red and orange) are from JOFY80. They were stamped (onto Smoothy),
painted, cut out and added to the background. Shadow (using grey
pencil) was added to create dimension and make them stand out.
The small flowers were then added to the page, flush to the surface. The
curly motif from JOFY82 was stamped and embossed in WOW! Embossing's
Opaque White embossing powder - love how this makes this detail pop!
(NB The main central flower is from JOFY72, the tall sketched flowers are JOFY74. The stencil used along the top edge of the page is PS140)
I hope you love these designs as much as I do! I look forward to seeing what you create with them!
Enjoy!
