 2016 Topic 23: Bleach Techniques 

Hi everyone Alison (Craftytrog) here. Tonight I'd like to share with you a post about using bleach techniques with PaperArtsy Infusions and Seth Apter stamps.

I hadn't really used bleach as an art product before, so I was excited to try out its possibilities. My project is an art journal page. I hope you like it.

Step One: Using a sheet of 8 x 6 ins watercolour paper, I began by stamping the circles from ESA01 across the page. I used Ranger Archival ink in Jet Black, and dried it with a heat gun.

Step Two: Next, using a water spray bottle, I spritzed the page lightly with water, and sprinkled it with PaperArtsy Infusions in Violet Storms and Royal Blood. I spritzed more water to disperse the colour before drying the ink with a heat gun.

Step Three: Now comes the fun part! I used a paintbrush and thin bleach to remove the ink from the circles. I left the inner circle of the large one unbleached for a bit of contrast. For the bleach, I actually used a product call Milton, which is used to sterilise baby's bottles etc. It did affect the ink slightly, turning it a bit brown, but a black Pitt Pen fixed that.

Step Four: Once the bleach was dry, I mixed a few grains of Are You Cerise and Orange County Infusions with water, and repainted the circles.

Step Five: Next, I folded up a piece of kitchen towel, place it in a plastic lid, and poured bleach over it to make myself a bleach stamp pad. I 'inked' up the stars from ESA02, then stamped them above and below the circles on my page. Make sure you clean the bleach off your stamp thoroughly after this.

Step Six: I mixed up a little Are You Cerise Infusions with water again, and repainted the stars. I also stamped the word 'TIME' from ESA01 with bleach, lightly in a few places, and more prominently in one place below the circles. Then I used a black Pitt Pen to outline the word and a few random stars. Yes, I am guilty of cutting apart the phrase stamp! I make just one cut, so that I can easily put the phrase back together again.

Step Seven: I couldn't resist adding a few splatters! First I used a black Posca Paint Pen, tapping it above and over my page. Then I picked up some bleach on a paintbrush, and tapped spots of bleach over my page. I finished my page off with a scribbly border, and used my Archival Black Ink Pad to ink the edges.

I had an enormous amount of fun, trying these bleach techniques out with PaperArtsy's Infusions. Do make sure that you work in a well ventilated room though, and always clean the bleach off your stamps thoroughly. It's a good idea to wear an apron too!
