2015 Theme 2: Shiny Stuff

Hi everyone! Trish Latimer here, joining you this evening with a post all about Treasure Gold Gilding Wax. As you can see in the title, I've called this Treasure 'Silver', as there is nothing gold about the wax I've used today! I love using gilding wax on all sorts of different surfaces to give that gorgeous shiny look, and whilst I adore the entire range, I have to admit my 'go to' colour is silver. I've created a 3D piece using the silver wax on all sorts of surfaces..

The house part of my treehouse actually has Treasure Gold gilding wax smeared into three different surfaces. 

Step One: To prepare the house (the smaller of the wooden houses HERE) , I covered part of the surface with scrunched up tissue paper, glued on with lots of gel medium both under and over the tissue. This gives  great texture, as well as covering the hole that I didn't want in the final design! The roof part also has a small hole, so I covered this with Grunge Paste. The GP was also spread down the sides of the roof to add even more texture:

Step Two: Once it was dry, I painted the bottom part with Mermaid, and the roof with London Bus. A little water soluble black pencil around the edges to add shading, then on with the silver gilding wax! 

Step Three: I also created some clay hearts for my piece. I knew I wanted them to stand up, so it's a simple task to push some wire deep into the clay before it gets baked (although this works with air dry clay too!) I used bare copper wire, you may need to be careful about putting plastic coated craft wire into an oven!

Once hard, I painted them with Mermaid, then smeared them with Silver Treasure Gold.  I prefer not to sand down my clay pieces if I'm going to be waxing them, I like the fingerprint ridges left on to give a little texture! Of course, the clay can be sanded if you prefer a super smooth look! I used a cut out stamped image (JoFY 09) behind the hearts.

Step Four: I also created a heart embellishment using Grunge Paste. Once in the mould, you'll need to leave it in a warm place to harden for a couple of days.

As the embellishment comes from a mould, it is nice and smooth already once hard. This means that when you have smeared it with gilding wax, it can be buffed up to a really nice shine! I painted the heart with London Bus, then waxed just half of it to give a nice contrast.

I just love how the wax accentuates any textures you may have created in your work, I really liked how the roof on my project turned out!

I have just used Treasure Gold gilding wax in a Silver shade on my treehouse creation, but the colour palette across the range is fabulous! Lots of colours to complement your individual style from grungy steampunk to the girly and floral. Using the wax is so easy too, I just dip in my finger and then get gilding!
