Welcome Back GD: Pam Thorburn #1 Chatsworth Collection Layout

"Hello all, Pam here. I was so excited when I found out that PaperArtsy now have a range of 12 x 12 patterned papers. Patterned papers tend to be the lifeblood of scrapbookers, so I was right at home using these papers. The papers are double sided and are heavy weight great quality papers-perfect for taking a bit of paint and distressing". 

For this layout I decided to stick to a monotone colour palette, which always works!

The layout is of my daughter who has just turned 21.

So here's how this layout was constructed. I used the green papers from the Chatsworth Collection. 

Firstly, here's a TIP:  If you are making a dimensional, bulky layout always start by cutting off 1cm from the top and side of your base paper. This will make it easier to put your finished page into a 12 x 12 page protector. 

So I removed 1 cm from the top and side of the bottom layer, and then 1.5 cm from each of the 4 edges of the upper layer. I then distressed all the edges, by running my craft knife around the edges. For the paper curl at the top left it is easier to wet that corner first, then roll the corner around a wooden spoon handle, and allow to dry.

I then inked the edges with a sponge dipped into Seaweed Fresco Paint

Then I machine stitched the two papers together.

I coloured some Grunge Paste with Fresco Guacomole paint and spread it through a Crafter's Workshop Reversed Chicken Wire stencil, using a palette knife.

While that was drying I set to colouring my embellishments so they matched the papers. I used a selection of lace from my stash, and Prima Wood Bellies, Prima Flowers, Petaloo Blossoms, Junkyard Findings, 

I then painted all the embellishments with Fresco paints in 'Hey Pesto, 'Tinned Peas', and 'Sage. For the lace and ribbon I watered the paint down a bit and left them to soak, before drying.

I added some Spanish Topaz Treasure Gold to the hard embellishments.

While everything was drying I started to build up my layout. I diecut some paper doilies- one from the patterned paper, one from vellum, and adhered them around where my photo was to go. I fussy cut the leaves from a sheet of the patterned paper.

Then I added the dyed lace, and some border punched patterned paper strips. I also randomly stamped over the layout using my all time favourite script stamp Mini 30, using Seaweed Fresco Paint. (I have a number of script stamps but this one is the BEST!) Stamping like this serves to unify the various elements on the page.

I adhered my photo to a piece of chipboard which raised it from the surface of the background, then adhered it. Setting it on chip board allowed me to slip embellishments under it if I wanted. After that it was a matter of arranging the embellishments around the photo until I was happy with the look, overlapping and layering.

The key and the scattered pearls are by Kaisercrafts.

The layout came together really easily. The papers are so easy to work with, and the decision to stick to a monochromatic colour palette really helped too! Join me again tomorrow evening for another project.
