2019 Topic Introduction: The Colour Mustard
2019 Topic 1: Mustard
Hello! Keren here with an introduction for our next challenge; to hopefully whet your appetite and get you creating too. Colour combinations can sometimes be tricky to combine successfully. Mustard might not be the first colour springing to mind to pair with another and it's one of those colours a lot like Marmite; you either love it or hate it ! Ironically, the lid on Marmite isn't a million shades away from mustard either ! Our challenge is all about colours to pair with the bright yet dark hue of yellow and you might be surprised to see just how well it partners with so many in our glorious spectrum of colour.
Some of the most popular pairings I've seen are grey and yellow. It's a perfect challenge to add texture too; maybe it's the thought of wholegrain mustard, or perhaps it's seeing projects like this one
I am a sucker for modern colour schemes- and I love the autumnal vibe and the way that mustard morphs so beautifully and seamlessly into a warm and cosy atmosphere...
...or blasts itself into a vibrant explosion of a colour combination like here
You might be forgiven for thinking it's only really suited to a contemporary style of creating, but if you feast your eyes upon this wonderful wallpaper, you'll see that William Morris was there already
If you look on the high street, you'll see many wonderful combinations in fashion and home decor
and whilst we're talking about 'current'- mustard sits rather happily alongside colours similar to the Pantone colour for 2019 (Living Coral). Notice the navy at the bottom; it contrasts so well!
If you're still needing a little nudge- how about adding in a beautiful green to the combo?
or add in a vibrant poppy red that looks like a dead ringer with our Fresco Acrylic London Bus.
I adore this little peek into an Hungarian hue, and all of that luscious texture from the peeling paint.
Last, but by no means least, I thought a contribution from PaperArtsy was in order. There were a surprising amount of mustard-related projects, but I settled on this one as I love the stamps so much.
If you're hunting for a mustard paint- I have the perfect recommendation; Fresco Finish Mustard Pickle.
After all this talk of a 'condiment' colour, I hope you're ready to join in. Whether you go for neutrals, add some zing with teal or shocking pink, I'm sure your projects will more than cut the mustard (sorry!!). Don't forget to slather this surprisingly versatile colour all over your creations!
Don't forget to follow Leandra's Pinterest board if this topic pushes your buttons, you will see plenty more examples to whet your appetite there!
I am really looking forward to seeing what you create over the next 2 weeks!
You're going to love the projects we have coming up. We are not doing the linked challenge for 2019, so if you create along with us, please share on our social feeds so we can see what you get up to. The best places are instagram @paperartsy or post in PaperArtsy People Group on Facebook too.
