So, I'm loathe to admit it, but i think Jo has managed to make grass green (which in my book is a super-icko green) look really nice! She always has such a clever way of pulling colours together, so, I think she may have won me over on this one! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, Jo Firth-Young here with you today.  I jumped at the chance of making a project for this topic, and I'd like to share with you my banner of happy summery bunting!

I have to say bunting makes me smile! Its so evocative of summer days and English village fetes of years past (and present of course as bunting has had a resurgence in popularity! yay for bunting!) 

I chose to create a bunting line of little pennants rather than traditional triangular panels. I had an idea to combine two of my favourite creative things - bunting and masterboards.

On the back of a sheet of Smoothy I measured out a template of 10 panels that would become the pennants.  The 'zig zag' line across the centre creates 3 pointed pennants and 5 'snake tongue' shaped pennants, and even though they are different shapes they will be the same length.

With these lines drawn I could turn the sheet over and get busy creating the masterboard. I used Distress Oxide inks (Twisted Citron, Lucky Clover) to colour the entire page and splashed water on it lift of some of the colour. Once dry I stamped the background (Leaf Green Archival) with the circles background from JOFY62.

I wanted to keep the back ground relatively 'simple' because I knew I'd be adding flowers on top of each pennant.

I used the border from stencil PS082, as you can see in the image above. {By the way: this is an extra large stencil, and in addition to the 'holes' shown in dark blue above, you also get the masks that fill those holes too, just a handy tip to know if you have aquired stamp set JoFY64, which has flowers to match those large holes}

Anyway, I stencilled white flowers (Snowflake Fresco Paint) - allthough the paint absorbed some of the green Distress Oxide from the layer underneath, because as you know, all distress products react with anything wet...and so the paint became a soft, subtle green which I actually quite liked. 

I also added stamped flowers, stamped in white paint too. However, I like to add a bit of black ink stamping on backgrounds because I feel it makes colours pop and on this background I stamped the alphabet strip from JOFY63 along the page edge (this would become the top of each banner).  The black ink also matches the ink used when stamping additional flowers.

To create the flowers I rough painted a sheet of Smoothy with Bougainvillea and Coral - deliberately painting 'rough' creates a subtle texture - I felt that a very smooth surface wouldn't sit nicely against the green 'disressed' background.  I stamped lots of flowers in the black ink and cut them out ready to assemble on the pennants.

Here is one of the pennants (work in progress). 

Each of the pennants has the same elements - die cut flowers, leaves stamped onto book text (from JOFY61) and a stamped flower (from JOFY62) - making each one the same but different.

Each of the pennants was finished off with a border (lower edge) of white 'loops' see the loopy stamp below? It's from JOFY60. It was stamped along the bottom edge of the pennants.

Finally gems, buttons, and white gel pen detailing on the flowers all adds those finishing touches. I punched hole in the top corners of each pennant and strung them together using white ribbon which is tied with gingham ribbons in coordinating colours.

I have embraced the bright colours of summer to create this bunting and it makes me smile!  I had several pennants left over from the project that I might use to create another line of bunting - maybe spelling out a word or something similar.
