Lucy has made some beautiful things for the blog in the past year, and this is a culmination in the things she does so well. Enjoy!

Hi everyone, it's Lucy from Lucy's True Colours with you today, and I'd like to share with you a pencil case, which could also be a make up bag, which could be given as a present at Christmas. Yes, there's still time!

When I did my last post, I used fabric medium and I said what a revelation it was and how I wanted to do much more stamping on fabric. This time I have mixed the fabric medium into the Fresco for the background as this keeps the soft handle of the pencil case, whereas when I have made similar items before it has become stiff which is not very pleasing to the touch. This worked really well and made quite a tactile item.

I wanted as many layers as possible so I started off by using Kim Dellow's stencils 048 ...

... and removing the Mermaid Fresco layer with a baby wipe to give a ghost image.

Then the leaf from the same stencil set, using Fresco Finish Zucchini and a stencil brush. I love this layer!

I used the same paint and cut n dry foam but now moved on to a stamp layer, using the sprig from Kim's EKD 06 and positioned it roughly where I knew I would want my shrink plastic flowers to sit. It's such a dainty sprig stamp! The stencilled flower is in Lavender and Wisteria Fresco Finish.

Now to those flowers! You get such a lovely selection across the two sets, Eclectica EKD05 and 06.

I stamped them across two sheets of frosted shrink plastic using StazOn Jet Black. I always like to stamp on the shiny side and colour on the frosted side as this gives you a rougher texture to take the colour, and a glossier side to show. I used alcohol ink markers and of course they didn't react with the StazOn as I was using the reverse.

Another of my favourite things! I love the way Treasure Gold 'takes' on a variety of surfaces. Even the alcohol pens hadn't worked on the zip, but the Royal Amethyst Treasure Gold was the perfect finishing touch. I wanted a little text so I used some words from ELB24 

in a mix of Haystack and Autumn Fire.

I added some more stamping from the two sets with Snowflake fresco and adhered the shrink plastic pieces with gel medium. As a finishing touch and to tidy up the edge, I stitched lace just below the zip.

For the other side of the pencil case, I used a different colour scheme, with a background of Fresco Finish Candy Floss!

I really enjoyed making this, and in fact made several whilst I was 'on a roll'  and I think they would make such useful gifts for make up, or for storing stationery, paint brushes, or in my case, my Crayola crayons. As an alternative I think it would be fun to punch a hole in the shrink plastic charms before heating and make them into dangles to hang from the zip.
