Welcome Liesbeth Fidder: Altered Sewing Tin {Part 1}

"Hello everyone Liesbeth here with my first project as Guest Designer for Paperartsy".

This first week I’ll show you how I made an altered tin and left-over-bags by using some of the wonderful PA sewing Hot Picks sets.

First I prepared a metal cigar box or you could use any other flat tin, in a very simple and easy way. I just threw it into the open fire!!  The paint burned off and it gets a very old, worn, vintage look which I love so much. I kept it in the fire for half an hour, I turned it several times. I let it cool down and cleaned it with water and a brush and dried it well.

{Note of Caution ... Please take care not to handle the tin whilst hot, as a preventative measure use some heat proof instument to hold the tin i.e tongs. When using any other heat related tool, please follow the manufacturers guidelines}.

The top of the box I outlined the tin with a pencil onto a piece of Crunchy Wax Kraft Paper and tore it a little inside the pencil line so it’s a bit smaller than the tin. I wrinkled it to create that beautiful old weathered look.

Onto some pieces of Smoothy White Stamping Card I stamped several sewing themed images. I used HP1211, HP1212 and HP1213 , the ink I used was Black, Sepia and Coffee Archival Inks.

I cut out the images and aged them by colouring them with Distress Ink Vintage Photo  using a piece of Cut N Dry. Never throw away any left-overs of the stamped images you don’t use now, you might need them later.

I sponged the edges of the stamped images with a little bit of black ink, cut some pieces of fabric and frayed the fabric a bit. I made a frame by cutting the stamped lace in the right size and adhered the frame onto the Crunchy Wax Kraft Paper. I then added everything as shown and glued it onto the front of the tin, I also glued the frayed out threads on the left corner.

The top of the tin is ready, tomorrow I’ll be back and I’ll show you how to do the inside of it, with a nice background technique!
