Welcome GD: Penny Nuttall Project #1 Chirpy Carousel

"Hello everyone, Penny here and welcome to my first project as a Guest designer. This week we are looking at 3-D construction. It offers a wealth of possibilities, taking a basic structure and developing it with a little imagination in your own style. Have fun"!

First make the canopy. Draw a circle, 8cm diam on Smoothy Heavyweight White Stamping  Card and cut out approximately 1cm outside the drawn line.

Turn it over, colour with Zesty Zing Fresco Paint and stencil a cheerful textured pattern with a brush or sponge using Yellow Submarine, Tango and Sky.

When dry, mark out a segment on the wrong side (see pic) and cut out.

Then using the tips of your scissors, clip to line at half centimetre intervals all round. Bring segment edges together and overlap slightly to form shallow cone shape. Staple or tape to secure, then fold down all the clipped tabs as shown.

Glue or tape a band of ribbon or paper all round the outside of the tabs.

Next, the stand. You need a chipboard or mountboard circle approximately 6cm diam. for the base, a wooden spool and a 10cm length of dowel (6mm diam. fits nicely in the spool). Sharpen the end of the dowel to a point using a pencil sharpener.

Paint with Fresco Finish paints Sky, Yellow Submarine and London Bus then assemble as shown. I added a wooden embellishment.

This is all so much easier to do than to describe! Next stamp four of JOFY's Lovebirds JM20 onto card, colour and cut out.

Paint four wooden cocktail sticks and glue the birds 1cm from the bottom of the sticks as shown.

Glue the assembled birds to the inside edge of the canopy at equal intervals.

I added some decorative braid to the base and a wooden embellishment and bead to the roof- but this is where your imagination comes in! If you have cut and assembled accurately your birdies will spin happily around. So that was simple, how about scaling things up a bit? I would love to see where you take this .......

Join me again tomorrow night when I will be back with another project for you all. Until then!

~Penny~
