Hi everyone Darcy here, curating day 5 of a fabulous week of #3UP posts. It was my task to choose tonight's colour palette: Red, Grey, White, Black. When Leandra asked me for a colour scheme, these immediately came to mind. I am an 80's girl, and back in the day, red and grey were everywhere. I love the very graphic feel of these 4 together: in some ways hard to control as they are each so dominant. I was excited to see what my 3uppers would create.  

Leandra gave me a randomly selected team from all the applicants, and they are each focusing on some of the themes we have explored on the blog this semester. Let's see what the 3 people up tonight suggest you could do. Enjoy!

First up it's Kate Vansuch from Every Day Needs A Little Glitter
My first guest this evening is Kate, do go and take a look at her blog where you will find some great mixed media pieces combined with lovely watercolours. There are lots of nature themed pieces and I love the way she does trees. This technique has transferred brilliantly into miniature art for tonight. 

Kate says: I am a Hospice nurse and mother of 3 who finds art to be therapeutic. I am inspired by the world around me-relationships, nature, emotion. I chose miniature art because I enjoy having limited space to express myself and I think diminutive objects are unique because a lot of the detail has to be imagined by the observer.

I used gesso, water color pencils, acrylic paint in Bright Red and Black, Retro Flakes, and water color paper for the birch trees.  

Lace and cardboard are the border and an old playing card is my canvas.

Next it's Sue Butler from Scrumplescrunch

My next guest is Sue, I was blown away looking on her blog. So much inspiration, layers,textures, journals,art dolls, you name it and Sue does it.. and does it beautifully. Go and visit, there is something to inspire everyone over there. Tonight Sue has chosen the theme of paint. 

Sue says: Hello, I am Sue  and I live in New Zealand.  I have been blogging for 5years, but I have been using my hands for a variety of crafts for many years. All are self taught, through initially books and now the internet. I love the process of learning new skills, and my ideas are formed by my innate curiosity in everything around me; another word for this is nosey! I am inspired by colour, the challenge is the ability to give a new design to what already exists. 
I cover many genres, from Shabby Chic to Mixed Media, there is a nothing more satisfying to me than getting my hands all dirtied up with paint;  I see it like feeding myself to the point of bursting! Blogging allows me to share my ideas and make connections, which is key to my creativity.
 

​ I often include stitching in my work along with fibres, as I believe Art should be touched, I encourage this in my designs by using tactile elements.

​I also enjoy layering and fussy cutting.

Finally it's Catherine Johnson from Inky Fingered Cat

My third guest tonight is Catherine, if you visit her blog you will see that Catherine is a prolific crafter/blogger. From journal pages to fabric projects and all kinds of inky pieces, Catherine's pieces are diverse in style but also use of supplies. Tonight Catherine is using the grunge paste theme and also the shiny stuff theme. 
 

Catherine says: Hi Catherine (aka Catiecuddles) here. So pleased to bring you my texture and shiny theme for this semesters #3UP.  I chose texture (altered grunge paste) because I love creating things that have depth in them, and shiny because who doesn't like a bit of bling, even when creating something grungy? 

I combined layer upon layer using, texture paste, stencils and stamping with ink and paint to make my little hanging plaque.  Circles are my thing at the moment... Don't seem to be able to finish a piece without adding them somehow.  May have gone a tad overboard on the circles in this case, but love how they worked overlapping each other and with different finishes.

The shiny finish was provided by using treasure gold, glossy accents and glitter glue.  I softened the plaque by trimming the wire hanger with yarns and ribbons - some of which were also shiny although it was difficult to get that to show in a photo.

I love the final piece, and the only thing I think I would have done differently was to try and add some stamping into the texture paste circles before they were dry to add a different finish to those circles... Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing, but hey I love it nonetheless!

Well, three very striking pieces and all in my favourite colour scheme. I feel thoroughly spoiled. I adore Kate's tiny cardinals perched in trees. Sue's layered,butterfly canvas is so striking with perfect finishing touches of stitching. Finally, Catherine's texture piece just needs to be touched. I too love circles, these call to me. I know that this piece is going to be a gift and I am sure her friend will adore it.

Hi everyone Keren Baker here, curating day 5 of a fabulous week of #3UP posts. 

It was my task to choose tonight's colour palette: Lime, Mermaid, Gold, Candy Floss and dab of Yellow

I love anything bright and vibrant so this spring inspired palette was what I chose for the girls! I've picked both opaque and translucent colours to give lots of creative options.

First up it's Corrie Herriman from Made by Chook , who has created a beautifully vibrant canvas

I thought about a project for this opportunity for a while and decided to do a little canvas as I really love doing canvasses. Probably something to do with the fact that I used to  paint 'properly'. I also loved using these colours as I am very much a one or two colour girl ! It took me out of my comfort zone which is really good for me ! I was also dying to use my new Lynne Perrella stamps and this was the perfect opportunity ! I really enjoyed the whole process.

I love these yummy colours; Limelight, Mermaid, pink and a bit of Yellow Submarine on a canvas with pieces of tissue paper glued on it that are still visible. 



The easiest way of stamping on a canvas is actually to NOT stamp on the canvas but on tissue paper; I used Versafine Black Onyx ink and clear embossing powder to get a lovely black impression. Cut or tear around image and glue on the canvas for a perfect impression.

I love the end result; lovely bright colours and wonderful stamps and some yummy gold too!

Next it's Gabrielle Price from Crafty thoughts, who has created the most wonderful tiny piece of art.

For my miniature hanging I knew I wanted to try and layer the cups as if they were balanced in a cupboard but I hadn't realised how small they'd be when separated from the lady's head! They fitted in perfectly to the miniature theme without me really realising!

  

I cut an MDF plaque to 8cm square and added Limelight, Mermaid and Sherbet paints and a script stamp and then sanded it all. I put Gold Treasure Gold on the edges for a little contrast.

I stamped out Lynne Perrella cups on old book paper and used Limelight and Yellow Submarine to colour them. To ensure they stacked nicely, I cut a slit in the top of two cups.

I added a sentiment using Emma Godfrey’s alphabet. I love my little hanging and I hope you do too!

Finally it's Karen Petitt. from Karen's Crafting Obsessions who has cleverly incorporated all the new styled challenges we've had set by PaperArtsy into one unique folder!
 

I decided to Recycle/Deconstruct an old plain file folder.

This is the finished project. Because I wanted to incorporate as many of the PaperArtsy Topics as possible into my piece I did the following:  

Topic #1 Fragile Papers: stamped and coloured images onto tissue paper and stuck them on.

Topic #2 Shiny Stuff: used gold acrylic paint and my really old Sakura sparkle gel pens. 



Topic #3 Paint: I used acrylic paints as close as possible to the colour scheme. Because of the PaperArtsy Paint Topic I became more confident at adding and blending colour.

Topic #4 Miniatures: stamped and coloured mini images onto mini jigsaw pieces.

Topic #5 Grunge Paste: I haven't got any Grunge Paste yet so I added some embossing paste for texture



What a distinctive and varied collection of projects- all so very different despite using the same colours as a springboard. My thanks to each of these girls- it's no small thing to have a go at a challenge such as this, and yet they've each smashed it! Hi everyone Lucy Edmondson here, curating day 4 of a fabulous week of #3UP posts. It was my task to choose tonight's colour palette: Purples, Yellows and a splash of Blue

I chose these colours as they make me think of the daffodils and bluebells of Springtime and yellow Easter chicks! And a perfect excuse to use some of the mauves and blues recently added to the Fresco range, with a touch of Banana perhaps!

Hi, my name is Jane Castle, I'm only just on the right side of 60 and started to crochet and knit from the age of 5 years and have been making and creating ever since. I started my blog just over a year ago. My entry for 3Up explores the theme 'Shiny' as I was tied up with other things when this theme was running, and of course, 'Paint'! I have been wanting to make either a journal or a book cover for some time and felt this was the opportune moment. So I watched various videos and decided on starting from scratch and learning everything from sewing the signatures, binding, and producing the cover.
My craft and arts ideas journal:-

The book cloth was coloured with Treasure Gold, and I love how this was transformed.

The colours change depending on the angle of the light, and the mica powder gently shimmers.

Setting the book block (64 sides of A5), bookmark ribbon and end papers into the cover was nerve wracking but I have to say I'm thrilled with the end product - it's not perfect but I'm itching to make another!

Next it's Sandie Cottee,from Itchifingers    

Hi, I'm Sandie, I have a passion for paper and for making books so I was really excited to be chosen for this round of 3 Up. I like to challenge myself so I chose the colour group Purple (as I'm not naturally drawn to this), Yellow, and a touch of Blue. I had been planning to make a matchbook using a bird theme and it seemed a natural choice as this fitted well with topics covered here this past semester: Shiny Things, Paint, Miniature Art, and Deconstruction.

I hope you like my contribution!

I wanted to include eggs in a nest and a book within the matchbox, so this led to making a pair of matching boxes.

I like the idea that eggs hold unknown potential and will hopefully develop into birds that fly.

The quote I chose on the other matchbox reminds me to 'USE WHAT TALENT YOU POSSESS' and the book inside reads: 'THE WOODS WOULD BE SILENT IF NO BIRDS SANG EXCEPT THOSE WHO SING BEST'.

Finally it's Miriam Grazier from Miriam's Creative Dreams

I actually made two projects but with a similar approach. I chose the colour theme Purple, Yellow, and a Touch of Blue as they are not colours I would normally go to and use together and so pushed me outside of my comfort zone! As it was, once I started, I couldn't stop! I decided to incorporate the themes of Fragile Papers and Grunge Paste into my projects.


Project One

Brayered Frescos and lots of stamping on tissue, torn up and glued to painted grey board.

Coloured Grunge Paste added through stencils. Darcy house and flowers stamped on card, painted and attached, and wording stamped on tissue paper and adhered with matt medium.

Project Two 

Painted grey board and stamped stars, then stamped Clare Lloyd image, coloured, and adhered with matt medium, and added stamped wording.

I had great fun making these projects and it will certainly make me think about using these colours again!

Oh what a gorgeous selection from three talented Easter chicks! It's great to see such a range of themes explored. I love how Jane has ventured into book binding from first principles with a wonderful sheen from Treasure Gold. Sandie has given us an Easter themed make in Miniature with those enchanting quotes. And Miriam has used tissue paper to achieve depth in her project and clarity of stamping, and I love her bold use of the colour palette. Hi everyone Pam Thorburn here, curating day 3 of a fabulous week of #3UP posts.
It was my task to choose tonight's colour palette: Got the blues

I love monochromatic colour palettes in general, and the new PaperArtsy blues are no exception. There's something about blues; they can be bright and exciting or sombre and serene. But my all time favourite blue is the bright blue sky from my childhood in outback Australia. Oh, how I miss those huge blue skies! I think that's why I was so drawn to select the blue colour palette for this 3up.

Becky decided to go with the paint topic with a project using Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paints and the crackle technique. 

Becky says: I love playing around with paints and have never done the crackle technique so I thought there was no time like the present to try on a glass bottle I had that was begging to be used for a project. 

The Fresco Finish Paints I used were Baltic Blue, Eggplant, Beach Hut, Caribbean Blue, Mermaid and Snowflake. 

I even did the crackle effect on the little tag, applying a thinner layer of paint to get a slightly different effect.

Next up we have Ruth, from 'a love to create'. 

Ruth says: I'm so thrilled to get the chance to do a 3up post again. I've really enjoyed the challenges this year, but didn't get the chance to join in with 'Miniature Art', so I knew exactly what I wanted to explore with 'Got the Blues'!

I created a box canvas of miniatures, I painted them all and thought I’d choose the best but loved doing these so much I had to use all 17 of them and improvised an 18^th echoing the grunge paste on the sides.

I’d salvaged these tiny plastic dominos from Christmas crackers and thought this is a perfect opportunity to paint and alter them, the glass blue has to be my new favourite colour.

There’s stamping, stenciling, grunge paste and even shrink plastic. It’s funny when you get in the zone of miniatures, you suddenly look up and everything looks HUGE…I am now on the hunt for more tiny dominos (2.5 x1.25cm), if anyone can help let me know!

Becky says: I chose to explore Deconstruction because I really, really enjoy breaking stuff, in fact that would be a dream job (heh).

Wow was this fun!  Cutting, ripping, tearing, scraping and smashing the canvas with a hammer was the best part- a little harder to stick to the colors, but I managed (snuck in some metallics) and used the two PA sets I have that are both Christmas on a non-Christmas project--woot! Those butterflies are made from a can that used to hold soda...I love that huge hole, sadly when I put the cardboard in it covered the smashed up frame, but I still had fun smashing it so that's okay. 
  

No idea where that netting came from but it was perfect to catch my stars!

Coloring on the back of packaging is great- make sure to use a darker color than you think you need!

Kirsten has created something that is just my cup of tea! It's 3-D and delightful.....

Hello and welcome to 3UP! My project was inspired by a book called 'Bitter Greens' by Kate Forsyth. The story is partly set in Venice and contains a reworking of the Rapunzel fairytale, so this is part Venetian palazzo, pat Rapunzel's tower.

I wanted lots of texture....tissue paper, Grunge Paste and lots of the gorgeous new Glass Blue Fresco paint.

My favourite Lynne Perella image! I can't decide if this is Rapunzel or La Strega, the witch who imprisoned her in the tower....

Initially, my theme was meant to be 'deconstruction' but perhaps it's ended up more about the Grunge Paste. I wanted to create the appearance of decay taking over the tower, so I mixed the GP with a little gel medium, covered it with embossing powder and heat set.

Hello, Karin here . For my abstract canvas board my chosen topic is 'Paint'.
The reason why is simple...I love Fresco paints because they are so versatile. For example, even with the opaque colours you can water them down and get a translucent finish, or leave them undiluted for instant coverage.

I was strongly influenced by the colour palette...it made me think of tutti-fruities and smarties! I find the process of producing an abstract piece fascinating. In the early layers you get to a stage when you've not really started but you like how it looks, or you hate it because it's hit an 'ugly' phase.....that's when it becomes interesting, getting past those stages!

In places you'll see the tissue wrap that was glued to the canvas board. On reflection I should have sealed the tissue wrap or added papers at a later stage as there are so many layers on this piece it started to wrinkle." (A happy accident I think!.......P.)

Hi All! My theme choices for this challenge are 'Paint' and 'Miniature Art'. I love making mini journals and albums so this was right up my street!

I couldn't have been happier to be restricted to these gorgeous Fresco colours but I didn't stop there! All the colours used are a result of mixing these basic six paints, plus Snowflake and Little Black Dress. Delicious and great fun. 

JOFY's flower stamps are so gorgeous (I agree!..). I use them regularly in my journaling so, of course, I was going to use them in this mini journal. If I'd had more time I would have layered up the flowers and used some Fresco glazes too.

Hi everyone Jo Myhill here, curating day 1 of a fabulous week of #3UP posts. It was my task to choose tonight's colour palette: Slate Concrete, Stone and Lichen (green or yellow).  I chose these colours as they are very natural and neutral and not seen very often togethr.  they can be quite soothing, fresh or dark depending on how you put them together. Lichen always fascinates me so I was interested to see how my 3uppers would rise to this different colour scheme.

First up it's Deborah Wainwright, I'll let Deb tell you how she rose to the challenge:  

Hi everyone Debs here with a journal page using the theme of Paint. I chose the colour scheme of Slate Concrete Stone and Lichen because it is an unusual palette and one I would not normally use. I wanted to show that you can build up lots of layers using just paint, three stencils and a little stamping. If you use too many patterns it becomes muddled and in my opinion over complicated. 

Limiting the colours to three of four means you can add layers without it looking overworked. The layering of the colours creates different tones and values which adds extra interest. 

As I built the layers I used less stencilling Think of a pyramid) until my top layer which was the sentiment ART.

Next it's Dee Adams.   I'll let Dee tell you why she picked this colour scheme:
I picked Group A  as I love the colours and the grey & green lichen reminded me of the stone and architecture of an old vault that you might find gold icons in hence shiny things as my topic.

I love the way the pediments made it look like an Icon.

 

 I like the way brayering makes the background look like stone.

Lots of grunge paste, crackle paste, treasure gold and a few gems always make my enjoyment complete and pull  the whole project together.

I hope you all get as much enjoyment and inspiration looking at the projects as I have in taking part in this lovely 3UP Challenge. 

Finally it's Dounia.  Dounia is from France and she decided to use miniature as her theme for this colour scheme:

I chose to explore Miniature art because I love small objects and I tend to obsess over details so a tiny project was needed to finish in time!  I'm always taking pictures of unusual textures (bark, rust, moss...) so I decided to take the green lichen of our colour scheme literally.

I used a mix of Grunge paste, puff paint and green pigment in a thick layer on a re purposed badge. I love the resulting texture though it completely hides the previous layer (which was supposed to be concrete).

For the dimensional focal points I used glass nuggets and stones that I stamped and painted.  I also made some moss capsules (if you look at moss closely you'll know what I mean) from beads and wire.

I wanted the finished brooch to be eye catching (this is jewellery after all) while respecting the nooks and crannies of the lichen so...beads!  The hardest part was knowing when to stop!

Wow! Aren't all three amazing?  With such a limited palette it can seem daunting and constraining but I think all three artists have captured how this neutral palette with the green lichen accent can really be liberating.  I love Dee's dark Gothic mausoleum looking plaque, you can imagine it in a dark dank mossy crypt.  And I love the contrast of  brightness of Debs subtle stencilling using the same colours but focusing on the Stone and Concrete.  And finally Dounia's brooch with all its texture using grunge paste to get that mossy lichen look on something oh so tiny!

Great imagination, great interpretation, great art.  Thanks for taking the plunge to use my colour scheme.
