A note from Leandra:
Kay has a range of whimsical and imaginative flowers and garden adornments for you this release. I love how these flower topped, mushroom shaped ones (see image above) could be parasols, mushrooms, or tall flowers - it is your choice! Of course she has also created a series of stencils to accompany these designs, and they allow you to build up your background layers with ease. Look closely to see how Kay makes them look 3-D with some clever use of texture paste and light to dark shading; it never ceases to amaze me how much depth you can add to any project with beautifully stencilled layers.
Kay will be along to share with you LIVE her new products and ideas over in our Facebook Group, 'PaperArtsy People' shortly after this post publishes, and ho ho ho, jingle those bells for the first time ever, we are doing a product giveaway during Kay's live. Join us during the live, leave a comment and you could be our lucky winner for a full set of all 6 new products! We know this is a busy week ahead, particularly for our American friends. The replay will be pinned as a featured post over in PaperArtsy People, but please note that the giveaway will be decided during the live.
These stamps are available EXCLUSIVELY from our approved stockists. Check the list at the foot of this post to find a retailer online or geographically near you, it makes sense to order within your country where possible. Our retailers endeavour to join the designer's live to share their direct shopping links - this makes it super easy for you to find a store with product in stock immediately.
Hi everyone, Kay here
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy consisting of 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy consisting of 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.
For a little while now, I have been using flowers from our garden for inspiration for my releases, however for this release I have stepped away from 'real life' and designed a whimsical range of flowers including fairy bell flowers, swirly flowers, flower mushrooms and bobbly flowers. Originally, when I sat down and began doodling I had no clear idea of what direction I was going to go in. However, I came across a few designs that I had drawn a few years back and that sowed the seed of creating more 'whimsical designs' to go along with them. I really hope you like them!
Price: RRP €23.00 +VAT Size:5" x 6" (13 x16.5cm)
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam with a laminated index sheet.
DAISY BLOOMS
This stamp set has two whimsical style daisy stamps. One of the daisies has 4 petals and leans to the left and the other has three petals and leans to the right. There are also two swirly vine tendrils contained on this stamp set which have been designed to climb up the stemmed flowers contained in this set.
The daisies have been designed so that they sit below the tall, bell shaped flowers that are also contained on this set. You can see how I have stamped the vine tendrils (in green) to climb up the daisy stems.
To give the daisies a 'whimsical feel' I designed the flowers with swirls within the petals, but if you wanted to make some changes and have the imagery without the swirls in the petals, they can easily be painted over using one of the opaque colours of Fresco Finish paints.
FAIRY BELLS
This stamp set also contains two tall, bell shaped flowers, which I tend to refer to as 'fairy bells'.
Once again, to give these flowers a whimsical feel, the flowers were drawn with added swirly elements, but again if there are times where you prefer to hide the swirls contained within the flowers, simply paint over them with an opaque colour of Fresco Finish paint.
You can see how I have added little touches of glitter glue here and there as I felt that this added to the whimsicality of the imagery.
A FLOWER BLOOMS
This stamp set contains my tall bobbly flowers - both of which are a good size. For this sample I have used the slightly smaller flower of the two which still provides a great focal image for the DL size card.
The 'floaty style' border was designed to go with both of the tall flowers in order to ground them.
To paint the bobbly flowers I tend to apply a light wash of colour as a subtle background for the flower and then paint or use colouring pencils for the actual 'bobbly bits'.
FRIENDS ARE LIKE FLOWERS
This sample contains the slightly larger of the two flowers. You may have noticed that the flower shown before leans to the left whereas this one leans to the right. This is so that they can be used together to provide a 'relaxed' looking composition.
When I came across the 'friends' quote I knew that I wanted to lay out the words so that they stacked vertically, so that the quote could be used as a border like you see here.
When I painted the bobbly flowers (below) I didn't attempt to blend the colours as I wanted to give the 'bobbles' dimension when viewed from a distance.
MAGIC MUSHROOMS
I think that this may possibly be my favourite stamp set of this release. The mushrooms were designed as individual stamps in order to provide flexibility, ie. allowing them to be used in different compositions depending on the size of project.
Having three different sizes of mushrooms is both great for providing flexibility in the size of project you can create, as well as providing depth to a composition when using all three fairy mushrooms together, like here.
Each of the mushrooms has a slightly different shaped flower.
MAY YOUR DAY BE AMAZING
The whimsical flowers contained in this stamp set were designed to complement the whimsicality of the flower mushrooms.
Although the flowers were sized so that they can be used with the mushrooms they look great when used by themselves too.
One of the flowers has smaller flowers coming off of its stem and the other one doesn't. This is so they can be positioned closely together without the imagery overlapping each other.
SILENTLY A FLOWER BLOOMS
This stencil was designed to complement the flowers contained on stamp set EKC65. Please note that although this stencil contains the same style of flowers that are on stamp set EKC65 it doesn't 'match' these flowers and hasn't been designed to add colour to them.
Apart from the stamped words, all the imagery was created using only the stencil.
To create dimensional background flowers I used the technique of 'bumping the stencil'.
FLOWERS FILL THE WORLD WITH BEAUTY
The great thing with stencils is that you can flip them over to get flowers that will lean in opposite directions.
I was able to achieve a panel full of interest using the stencil in different ways for my background and foreground flowers.
How you apply your paint colours really makes a tremendous difference to the overall look of your flowers.
PaperArtsy Stencil 357 (PS357)
FLOWER POWER MUSHROOMS
This stencil was of course designed to complement the imagery contained on stamp set EKC65. However the mushrooms contained within the stencil do not match the mushrooms on the stamp set so they cannot be used with the stamps to colour them.
To create the foreground grasses I have used the stamp from EKC65. The mushrooms themselves were created just using the stencil.
I chose to add doodles of squiggles and dots to the mushrooms using a colouring pencil so that they had the same decoration as the stamps from EKC65.
MAGIC MUSHROOMS
The beauty of this stencil is that you can choose whether you have plain, undecorated mushrooms or whether you add flowers onto them to match the stamps on EKC65.
This sample was created using the group of three smaller mushrooms contained on this stencil, whereas the previous sample was made using the large group of mushrooms. Both groups of mushrooms have flower decorations that can easily be positioned on top of the mushrooms.
To add definition to the stencilled flowers I used a grey pencil to accentuate the individual petals.
PaperArtsy Stencil 358 (PS358)
FAIRY BELL FLOWERS
This stencil contains the fairy bell flowers that are contained on stamp set EKC64 and the bobble style flowers contained on EKC66 thus making it the perfect accompaniment to both of these stamp sets. But due to the delicate nature of these flowers they also work well when used with stamp set EKC65 as well as many of my past stamp sets.
The stencil can be used very simply to add background flowers to your imagery simply by stencilling with one overall colour. In this sample I used Fresco Finish Snowflake to achieve this.
Dimension was added to the colourful foreground flowers by once again using the 'bumping technique'.
BRIGHT BLOOMS
The size of imagery contained on this stencil makes it ideal to use for so many different sizes of projects. As well as using the stencil as a whole, try using just parts of it. This is easily achievable when using a small stencil brush to pick out individual imagery.
Dimension has been added to the foreground flowers by using both the 'bumping' technique and through the use of dimensional colouring.
It would be very easy to only have the bobbly orange flowers with the bobbly grasses to create a different looking border (without the fairy bell flowers by simply avoiding to stencil the fairy bell flowers and vice versa.)
Project: MYSTICAL MEADOW
And finally here is the finished plaque with some foreground grasses added along with some wire to hang the plaque.
This release has been a lot of fun for me - both in the designing of the stamps and stencils and then working with the stamps and stencils to create these samples. I hope that these designs provide you with hours of fun too!
Love Kay xx
