Hi everyone, Nicci (aka NicciDotCA) here
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.
Each new release is just as, if not more, exciting for me than the last!
I'm super excited to share with you my newest release for PaperArtsy. 3 stamps and coordinating stencils.
Each new release is just as, if not more, exciting for me than the last!
With this release, I wanted to create some fun elements that will work well on their own, with my last release, as well as build a fun platform for what I dream of bringing to you all in the Spring 2023; whimsy and elegance extraordinaire!
All stamps are individually trimmed onto cling foam with a laminated storage/index sheet.
With this release I thought it would be fun to try my hand at creating a few square cards. You know what?,…. I think I liked it…lol. Seeing fun patterns emerge as they begin to tell you their story.
On this card I coloured in our friend, the moon, with pencil crayons and then embellished him with glittering stickles.
These elaborate gilded frames can be showcased in many ways. In this sample I used the same techniques, as I did for our moon. However, think 🤔 about the varieties they can be used, such as coated in glossy accents or coloured and then re-stamped, embossed and lovingly rubbed with rich metallic waxes. Imagine stamping them onto acetate to create a frame and then lay it overtop of a quote or favourite art creation. These stamps will be very well used in my art room!
Mini Pocket Journal
Sometimes we need to take time and create a special little journal to take with us on our outings. As we never know when inspiration will strike and make us spontaneously doodle or paint.
I created this mini journal (4.75” x 3.25” when closed), which includes 4 signatures filled with white Bristol and a grey mixed media paper. Believe it or not, this little journal has 24 pages/48 sides!
I chose just a handful of PaperArtsy fresco finish paints for the backgrounds on my signature covers. Followed by embossed stamped images and sponge blended waxes. Later in this post, I will showcase the cover.
Each signature is embellished with a different stamped imaged from ENB13. This stamp set just seems to ooze imagination and inspiration.
THE ARTISTS HANDBAG
Splat, squeeze and swatch! ENB14 is an Artists dream. I love using these elements to swatch out my art supplies as well as create kaleidoscope patterns and framed borders.
As I type this, I am even contemplating in my mind how I can use the paint brushes as the hands of a clock. ❤️🤗
The jewelled brooches are limitless! They could be the background to the numbers on said clock ⏰. One of my plans is to use the brooch image to create my holiday earrings this year and then paint tubes and splats for my New Years earrings! What better way to invite more creativity into the new year?
Have you been inspired, as I have been from all of the great colour wheel blog posts this year on the PaperArtsy blog? The colour palettes, the colour mixing, oh my! Those blog posts inspired me to add a cute ‘pie slice’ to this set, to assist us in creating our colour wheels of creativity.
Collage on fabric
Were you curious as to how I made the cover for the mini art journal showcased above?
Once all of my images were collaged onto my sheet of muslin fabric, I was a little heavy handed with a variety of Infusions…lol. Colour galore, my friends!
I just let the power of their granulation take over 😊.
TELL YOUR STORY
‘What do you see”, she asked.
‘I see auras of plenty, swirling with love and wonderment’, I said.
‘Look deep into my eyes, and I will tell you a story.’
This double page spread began as a place where I was pressing off the excess of inks that I had sprayed onto my stencils to add to the other page spreads.
As with most of the art that I create,… it is the substrate and the mixture of the supplies themselves that tell me the next step to take in the creation process. I can begin with an idea, but they always seem to take on a life on their own.
WHERE NATURE AND ART MEET
Imagine that you have found yourself in whimsical garden surrounded by flowers with faces. What would this garden look like? Can you imagine it? Now, go create it!
Spray painting the roses red, blue, yellow, pink and orange. This spread is so juicy and vibrant with all of the layers of ink, paint and vellum. You just want to reach out and touch it.
I wanted to create a spread filled with a wide variety of visual texture. Some areas are raised, some flat. Others are shiny ✨, glazed, glittery and matte finished. So pleasing to the eye!
EXPLORING COLOUR AND LINE
This double page spread is the first one that I created in this new journal. The first page represents your permission slip to play.
Sometimes the simplest of pages can showcase the use of a product the best. Making your mark, one brush stroke at a time.
In art, hugs and kisses are showcased in more than just x’ s and o’s. 😉
LOVE ON THE WIND
Swirls and Love are a continued theme through all of my art journals. It’s interesting how we all seem to gravitate to certain symbols in our work. I am curious to hear what symbols are a theme through your work as well.
This release is quite interesting as I step back and look at these art pieces. The stamps were rather dainty, however I used them in a way that was more on the path of grungy or a graffiti style to show you their versatility.
It has been so fun using grunge paste through the stencils in more of these samples than I have in the past. I really enjoy using embossing powders overtop of the grunge paste.

SWATCH OUT!
This double page spread shows you have I feel when I walk into and art supply store. The vibrant colours, the possibilities! It makes my soul happy 😆.
I had planned on writing in the colour names on the tags, but when I took a step back and looked at the page, I realized that the imagery spoke for itself 😉😉.
Just adding in extra ‘splats’ brought this page together. It actually makes it looks like my desktop 🤣. Thank goodness I keep a clear cover on my desk.
ART INSPIRING ART
Let’s go to an art gallery! Inspired by past visits to galleries and walking around a corner, then spotting a piece that makes you stop, absorb it’s beauty and view it from all angles.
Repeating patterns within an analogous colour palette. (Analogous colours are any three colours which are side by side on a 12-segment colour wheel)
My girl in a pink dress was created on vellum and layered overtop of a cube styled figure located on the journal page.

COFFEE AND CREATIVITY
I created this tag, as I wanted to have a fun element to pull out of a pocket on the next double spread. Having interactive pieces in your journals adds a fun element to play with as you flip through the pages.
However, adding sparkles randomly overtop of my stenciled rose 🌹, completed this tag.
TILTED
And so the young unassuming lady is crowned as our Princess. Unaware that this is the path she would end up on, she is lacking in excitement and etiquette.
‘Is my crown on straight?’
I created this stencil to celebrate some of the historical simple things in life. A hand written letter. A flower cut from the garden. Cherished love and friendship. You are invited to use the elements together or single them out to use as a focal point.
Here you can see the depth and layers of the page pocket that I created for this spread. A perfect place to add our tag or maybe even a love letter to yourself.
Project: Rustic Whimsey ~ An Art Journal Cover
Intro: I've made a fun journal cover using PaperArtsy tissue, paints, grunge paste, stamps & stencils.
Now you stamp and emboss your cover decorations. I used the rococo corner element with clear and then gold embossing powder.
From there, I repeated the process by adding in the calligraphy pen fan. I sprinkled the variety of embossing powder colours one at a time. Once that was heat set, I gently rubbed a metallic wax overtop.
And finally I used a few coloured pastels overtop of the raised elements to bring their colours back to the surface.
I hope that you have had fun and that I have inspired you to create! Go have fun 🤩!
Keep smiling & creating,
Nicci
