Lynn has used bolder colours to great effect by using them in a sparing way. It's easy to lump colours into 'bold' or 'subtle' categories, but it doesn't need to be so as Lynn shows us with this delicate and lovely journal page.

Hi everyone, it's Lynn (Memories on the Page) with you today, and I'd like to share with you an art journal page that I have created for this week's topic - Calming Colours.

If anyone follows me, calming colours are not usually my go to. Give me brights and neons to make me smile and skip!!  BUT I have to say, I have loved doing this page and how it turned out.
Green and Blue are my nemesis, but I had not thought about using them in such a light shade that they are 'calming'; definitely something I am going to continue to explore.

I have used the following colours in the Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Chalk Paints:

 

I began with a layer of gesso on my page and then I put a dab of the paints at one side of the page.

I then used a wide brush to pull the paint from the right to the left, I did not bother cleaning my brush in-between the colours, but I did work from the bottom to the top so the brighter blue didn't go through the whole page!  Once semi-dry I wiped with a wet wipe and this removed some of the paint to make a more splotchy image.

Using the PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Paint - Snowflake and a couple of stencils I created some background shapes. 

The stencils I have used are: JOFY (large) PS131, JOFY (regular) PS139 and JOFY (regular) PS166.  I find the best way to do this is to use a makeup sponge or paint dauber with very little paint so it does not bleed though the stencil.

I used a white paint pen to make marks on these shapes.

I then stamped the flower image from JOFY93 onto tissue paper a couple of times, and adhered it to the art journal page with Mat Medium.

I have done the same with the title; dream of good things.

Using the same paints that I used for the background and a fine brush, I have highlighted areas of the stamp.

Whether it be to use colours that you don't usually do or in a different way, like I did using the light green and blue, or stamping on tissue and adhering to the project, this is a great technique when you have fiddly areas to fussy cut!

Hi everyone, it's Ellie Knol from PAPER-STAMPS-COLOR again with you today, and I'd like to share with you the joy I had creating a cover for a colouring book in which I stamped images to color. 

Of course we all expect these toadstools to be red with white dots, but to be honest, I like the blue, and in nature there are also blue mushrooms .... really.. ..... and they're beautiful!  A green-blue ..
These are calming colors to me... the blue from the sky, green from plants and the terra from the soil.
Nature-inspired colors are my favorites...  

This is the front, spine, and back cover of the book; left the back, and right the front cover of course. I chose to photograph it before assembling the book itself. 

This is the gelliprint I've used to adhere to the book cover, first adhering it to cotton to make it more sturdy. 

After it had dried I added a layer of matte medium to give it some protection. You can see hints of the dragonflies from stamp set EKC24 in the background. 

I've also used EKC36 stamp set from Kay Carley.

 aWith Fresco Finish Paint in the following colors: Beanstalk, Brown Shed, Snowflake, Smurf, Mermaid and Magic Moss.  

The front cover has the big toad stool and some of the other sizes from the set, stamped with Versafine Onyx black and heat embossed in clear.
I painted all the toadstools with Fresco Finish Snowflake and the door with Bean Stalk.
I hesitated to use any (brown)reds first as it might not be a calming color for some, but I decided I needed to use what is a calming color to me.
I needed shadows to the toadstools; I used water-diluted Brown Shed Fresco Finish for that, and stamped the text with a terra brown ink.  

The clouds and 'roofs' were (stamped) and fussy cut from another piece of gel-printed cardstock in just blues (Smurf and Mermaid Fresco Finish) ... and adhered in a paper-piecing way. The die-cuts of the flowers in green are functioning as a fence around these 'Fungus Flats'.

... and last but not least a close up picture of the front cover, it being my favorite part of the project.. 

I found myself doing the covers in a child-like way and therefore this book grew as a colouring book with stamped images as the project came along, from sets from PaperArtsy of course... for my grandson to colour himself.  I think he will be so glad.. he is still so happy with any present, luckily for me..
I hope you got some inspiration; maybe to make a book yourself as a gift to someone... ?? .. maybe a lonely person or young one or a friend...??  

I LOVE giving handmade books to others... do you?

So lovely to have a project sharing Tracy's Lace Booklets. There are plenty of ways to decorate these, and contrasts between cut and solid pages are the key to getting a 'pop'. These soft delicate colours Claire uses in sage greens, grey-blues and blush pinks certainly ooze a gentle, calming vibe.

Hi everyone, it's Claire Snowdon with you today, and I'd like to share with you my take on the calming colours theme using one of Tracy Scott's Lace Booklets.

I've really enjoyed playing with the new Lace Booklets; most of my projects with them so far have been very bright and colourful, very much as Tracy would use them!  So I thought this topic would be the perfect reason to try using them in a different way and to play with some different colour schemes than I would typically use.

I started the project by thinking about calming colours, but those which would still offer contrast so when the pages are closed you still get the great lace effect.  I started with the pink pages - using Fresco Finish paints in Sorbet and Blah Mange.  I used the colours to get a kind of ombre effect and also the darker of each colour to frame the page.

The green pages were created in a similar way using Fresco Finish paints in Sage and Zucchini paints.

And the blue colour scheme was created using the paints in Blue Oyster and little touch of Wisteria.

As a great bonus with the lace booklets you can create some fab stencilled backgrounds with the 'waste' paper you put underneath the pages when painting the pages.....so I will use these papers another time for a different project :)

On the back page of the booklet I wanted to add some texture so I used lots of the text stamps from EAB19 stamped using Fresco Finish Snowflake - I also like this particular page as when you look through the layers of the lace pages it reminds me of clouds in a beautiful blue sky.

I added stencilling to the green page using PS187 and the Snowflake paint again.  Then I really wanted the beautiful quotes from EAB19 to really stand out from the pages so I embossed three of the quotes with white embossing powder onto black card. 

I added some white pen work to the green and pink pages with a white Posca pen. I really like this little detail as it brings the lace cuts to life.

I added a little bit of the Snowflake paint on a sponge all around the outer of edge of each page. I felt this added to the 'cloud-like' feeling of the booklet and was in keeping with the topic.

 

If you haven't tried using the lace booklets then I would really encourage you to give them a try - and Alison's stamp sets have such beautiful quotations that really can compliment any project.  I hope you'll find time to join in with the calming colours topic and spend some time relaxing with this colour scheme.
