NEW PA Products {Feb 2016} Sara Naumann

Hi Everyone, Leandra here again with new stamps for the ever-versatile Sara Naumann series!

Sara's stamps are highly consistent in style, and this time we have added some stencils to the mix so you can create a more interesting level of depth and interest with layering her designs.

Let's take a look at her new products, first up there are 2 stamp sets...

I love the masculine, nautical feel to ESN19, who doesn't like a bit of adventure!

And leaves are always a handy thing, no matter what the season, and Sara has grunged them up perfectly!

Here are the stencils, and you can see how nicely all the elements are going to work together!

Take a look at the video introduction to see the samples from Sara and her support team on this release!

I'll hand over now to Sara who will introduce each of her crew, and share some of her own work with these new stamps to show you too.

Enjoy

~Leandra

Hi everyone, Sara here to show you my newest stamps designed for PaperArtsy.

These new releases are a combination of some of my favorite quotes and images. I've been wanting to do a "masculine" type of stamp set for awhile—something with cool quotes and images that can work for masculine cards and projects, without being too limiting. And here in Poland, where I live, it's currently zero degrees and I knew I'd want something botanical to help me think of spring.

And the stencils? How cool are they??? When Leandra brought up the idea of doing stencils, I was a little really nervous since it requires a slightly different design skill—namely, envisioning images in the negative. But I figure the challenges are there to help me grow...so after a few fumbles, I think I got it. :)

Tonight we start with Jennie Atkinson.

Jennie uses mixed media to create her vintage style pieces diluting paints with either water or gesso to create vintage hues.

'The Power of Imagination' using ESN19/20 by Jennie Atkinson
Jennie says: Although the two stamp sets are very different I felt drawn to using stamps from both of them on a single project and the quote was just perfect for this. There are so many ways you can use that wonderful clock face both as a feature and in the background and by diluting the Brown Shed to a spray, the resulting soft pink background just shouted out soft green leaves and flowers!

'Beautiful Things' using ESN20 by Jennie Atkinson
Jennie says: The quotes on ESN20 are all wonderful and are large enough to be a centre piece in their own right. As a result I  wanted to keep the background gentle but textured and the leaves stencil and a light spraying of London Night  allowed me to achieve that. I love the little words on this stamp set, just perfect for little labels or tags.

'Reverie' using ESN20 by Jennie Atkinson
Jennie says: I love being able to suggest textured leaves under a flower cluster and having a stencil and stamps to match works so well. Again another lovely quote large enough to be a scene stealer!

'Adventure' using ESN19 by Jennie Atkinson
Jennie says: Another glorious quote! and a beautifully detailed sailing ship just perfect for a masculine collage.  As a sailor a clock is one of the most important things on board for navigation and tides and so the clock face makes a very suitable element in the background.

Next up we have Alison Hall .
Alison is a mixed media artist who loves to combine paint and stamping to create texture and dimension.

'Bon Voyage' using ESN19 by Alison Hall

Alison says: I adore Sara's fabulous vintage ship design. I'm using teabag papers a lot lately, and the ship looks perfect on these, just like an old map. This is a great masculine set too, with great stencil designs to use with it!

'Discover' using ESN19 by Alison Hall
Alison Says: This wonderful set doesn't have to be masculine, you can add a bit of shimmer and shine too. The phrases are perfect to use on a card for someone going on a long trip.

'Deep in their Roots' using ESN20 by Alison Hall
Alison says: I love having stencils to match stamps, it makes it simple to create backgrounds that work well with Sara's lovely grungy leaves. And Sara always gives us wonderful words and phrases too.

Thank You Kindly using ESN20 by Alison Hall
Alison says: Sara's lovely leaf images work beautifully for a clean and simple look, and again the words and phrases are so useful.

Our third contributor tonight is Debs Wainwright .

Debs is very much into her mixed media. She uses lots of layers to build depth in her art. She has a grungy style which works well with this release.

To Plant a Garden using ESN19/20 and Stencils PS026/027 by Debs Wainwright
Debs says: Having stamps and stencils that compliment each other as Sara's do in this collection is fabulous, as I was able to create the grungy look which I just love. It also enabled me create different textures, using Grunge Paste which was then sanded.

The Power of...  Using ESN 19/20 by Debs Wainwright
Debs says: I really like the quotes that Sara's stamps have, and in this collection I was spoilt for choice. I was able to use one quote lightly stamped using Fresco Acrylic Paint to form the background and another for the main sentiment.

Deep in their roots using ESN19/20 Stencil PS026/027 by Debs Wainwright

Debs says: I love the versatility of these stamps and stencils, as I was able create the visual texture and depth I had hoped to achieve. In addition the large leaf spray was easy to cut out, enabling me to create a flower. (Lin Brown and Ellen Vargo have both done this with their own stamps, and were my inspiration).

Follow your Bliss using ESN19/20 by Debs Wainwright
Debs says: This is such fab quote, and it was the perfect sentiment to use, for my take on, clean and simple. I loved the simple leaf and how using it with the Fresco Acrylic Paint I was able to add a touch more grunge. I know! Grunge and CAS don't usually go together,  but I think this works.

So now it's time to show you what I've made with these new stamps. I've got a few step outs so you can see exactly how this all came together.

Project One: Imagination using stamp set ESN19 and stencil PS026 by Sara Naumann

I wanted to see how this stencil could work combining both images as a layered background, using paint and penwork to add color and depth. The quote is one of my favorites!

Step One: First I mixed a bit of Nougat with London Night to create a slightly lighter color, then dry-brushed it onto the white cardstock. The clock is stamped with black ink. After the paint dried, I flipped the stencil over so the dots were on the left and traced them onto the cardstock with a fine-tip black pen. (I used a Micron 05.

Step Two: Now you use a tiny brush to fill in the dots with Space Cadet paint.

Step Three: Paint a piece of book paper with Nougat, then blot off some paint so the words still show through. Use a pen to trace the "blobs on sticks" part of the stencil—this is what Leandra calls it, but in real life they were pussywillows. Ha!

Remove the stencil, then follow the traced lines again with pen for a hand-drawn look. Paint with Tinned Peas. Let the paint dry, then cut out three of the stems.

Step Four: Tear pieces of book paper and glue them as shown. Layer the pussywillow/blob stems on top, then add the stamped quote on foam adhesive for a little lift. Tie a bow in gold silk ribbon to pick up the warm tones in the book paper and to contrast with the green and blue paint. Mount it on black, then white.

Project Two: Reverie using stamp set ESN20 and stencil PS027 by Sara Naumann

I've also made a botanical card, this time with a grungier effect—especially in that painted background.  The leaf on the stamp perfectly matches the leaf on the stencil, so you can get some really neat layered looks. The original leaf was one I photographed on a rainy walk at the beginning of autumn, which gave that mottled look.

Step One:  First I brayered white cardstock with Tinned Peas. When that dried, I added a second brayer application of Nougat, to soften the color.

Step Two: Now you paint up the leaf stamp with Tinned Peas. I use a piece of Cut & Dry foam. You could also use a cosmetic wedge. (Just be sure to wash the stamp right after using.) Stamp the leaf all over the painted background, randomly and off the edges of the cardstock. Use the paint applicator (either the cosmetic wedge or Cut & Dry) to add paint on all four sides of the cardstock. Stamp the dots with black ink.

Step Three: Stamp the leaf again on a separate piece of cream cardstock. Let dry, then place the same leaf shape from the stencil on top, slightly offset. Trace with the pen.

Remove the stencil and freehand follow the traced shape, so you have an irregular, hand-drawn effect. Cut it out, allowing space around the traced lines.

Step Four: Wrap green silk ribbon around the cardstock, then add a torn strip of book paper painted with Nougat. Stamp the dots again at the top left. Stamp "reverie" and add as shown, with the leaf, raised on foam adhesive. Add a bow tied in twine at the base of the leaf. Mount on cream, then black and white card.
