2022 Topic 14 : Colour Study: Triads {by Nikki Acton} with Scrapcosy stamps

Hi everyone, it's Nikki (Addicted to Art) with you today, and I'm here to share with you some layered Christmas cards using a selection of stamps designed by Scrapcosy.

As Keren explained in the launch post to our Colour Study on Triads we are using colours that are separated on our colour wheel by 1,2 or 3 segments. My chosen colours ended up 2 segments apart, and so they are less influenced by the blue, cool side of the colour wheel. I selected some colours that I hoped would work for some simple cards - and it's always good to get a few Christmas cards made early!

I began by establishing my colour scheme. I selected a 'red', 'blue' and 'yellow' PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Mulled Wine, A Bit Fishy and Haystack. I completed the colour wheel before deciding on which of the segments to use.

I have highlighted my options with the asterisks (segments 1, 7, 10) also seen in the swatched circles. I knew I would need to come back to mixing more colour on another day - so I gave myself a quick reminder of how to mix them from the primaries. The colour wheel always reveals its secrets, maybe in the future I might even choose 3 differnt combinations from this wheel. It's so good to have swatches of these colours.

I didn't try it, but I am pretty sure if I mixed these 3 colours together while wet I would get mud! The theory is if you mix 2 coloours opposite each other on the wheel you will make some kind of brown. But I was mixing just 2 of these 3 colours in the required proportion to create the selected colours.

Out came the trusty gel plate in order to build some layers! For some prints I just brayered the colour over the plate and pulled the print. For the green I used one of my favourite (and simplest) methods of adding scrunched paper over the painted gel plate before taking the print.

I combined 2 colours on some prints by adding each colour individually to the gel plate and building up the layers on the print - I do this by taking the plate to the paper - so I can selectively add colour in different places. I used PaperArtsy Stencil PS074 (Scrapcosy) for these prints.

I selected some groups of prints to work together - ensuring all 3 colours were in each card.

Next I stamped and fussy cut the bauble and bow from PaperArtsy Stamp Set ESC08 by Scrapcosy. The ink was very close to the Mulled WIne paint, so that was a great way to reinforce the chosen colour combination.

I also added some stars to my base layer - sponging a little Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic - Chalk using PaperArtsy Stencil PS264 (Scrapcosy).

Having adhered by layers onto the small (4x4 inches) cards - I started playing with positioning. I stamped my greetings - one from ESC08 and the other from PaperArtsy Stamp Set ESC29 (Scrapcosy).

You can hopefully see the gold twine I added underneath the bauble and bow - for a bit of Christmas bling!

And the paint spatters on both focal points for some added interest and to tie in with the white card base.

These colour studies are great for challenging me to use different colours to my normal go-to. I am really pleased with how these worked together! Give it a go - it's great to experiment.

2021 Topic 5 Find Your Vibe with ESN {by Ellie Knol}

2021 Topic 5: Find Your Vibe

Taking the humble piece of paper and transforming it into something completely more than the sum of its parts is part of what inspires Ellie's vibe. Add in some nature themed images and her gel prints wonderfully morph into books.
~ Keren

Hi everyone,
i
t's Ellie Knol with you today, and I'd like to share with you the process of making 3 books using 3 gelliprints for the front cover.
I first struggled to start on this theme... but after making notes I came to a point where I realized what gets me going: the vibes that inspire every time I start a project.

The text on stamp set ESN47 from Sara Naumann gave me the final push in the direction I took.

Making books and gel-printed papers, using Scripts and postal themed (ESN05!) product. Nature... that's what I love, that's what I do (did), over and over again... My vibe...

The first book: heat embossing (Seafoam White Embossing Powder from Ranger) in a collage style onto the colorful gel print. That's all. Really. Nice?

The second book: just as for the first book.. the stamps from Sara are so beautiful.. less is more...

Oops.. the third book is a tiny one (ATC size). Why ? Read on and you'll find out.

Three spiral bound books: two A5's and one tiny one.

Let's start from the beginning.. I've made three A5 size gel prints; monoprints to be precise... they were one of the 'vibes' that led me to making these books. Aren't they pretty?

These are the stencils I've used to make the monoprints: PS051, PS074 and PS136.

The first two gel prints: front cover for two books. What about the third gelliprint?
To start off I heat embossed the main image from ESN47 with a chunky embossing powder... the script was really a mess
I knew it, but wanted to use it because of it's color.. can you relate?
 ... toss it? No..
I saved part of it by making the tiny book.

Some more pictures of the books. As there is a green-yellow color on them, it's quite a challenge to catch the in-real-life colors. Changing the daylight lamps giving indirect light helped a little but gave more 'darkness' on the pictures also.
Enjoy...

I've used three stamps sets from Sara Naumann: ESN46, ESN47 and ESN05.

I stamped the sentiment from ESN47 on the inside cover of the two bigger books with brown ink, and on the front cover of the tiny book with heat embossing seafoam white powder.

Have you ever made a book? It is such fun!! Especially when you combine it with unique gelliprints, they are your very own and very personalized; gorgeous to give as a present. The beauty of what we love to do : creating with the use of beautiful art materials.
As far as I am concerned the stamps and stencils I've played with are so beautiful, useful, and very versatile. Eclectic, authentic and unique.
Inspirational, just as they are... nature themed is a plus, and combining all of the stamps and stencils is just amazing.

Go do what you love to do... and see the beauty of what you did...

2021 Topic 4 Free to Fly with Scrapcosy {by Carol Fox}

2021 Topic 4: Free to Fly

There is nothing more wonderful than watching butterflies flutter and weave through the breeze. Carol's wonderful hanging mobile must be beautiful in-situ. She also uses a fabulous mixed-media suitable substrate to pull gel prints from.
~ Keren.

Hi everyone, it's Carol with you today, and I'd like to share with you a kaleidoscope of Butterflies. I was at Truro Cathedral a couple of years ago and there was an Art exhibition on. One of the installations that really caught my eye and imagination was a massive array of butterflies; literally hundreds of them all hanging down from the ceiling and wafting in the air. The image has stayed with me, and today I have done my very much smaller take on it in soft summer colours to hang in my window.

I thought I would show a video too as I love how it all bobbles around in the breeze.

I used a sheet of Grafix Dura-Lar to pull a gelli print using Fresco Paints in Tango, Tangerine Twist, Bubble gum, Summer Sky and Cloud 9. I also used the stencils, PS219, PS001,and PS074

Using Stamp set ESC23, I stamped a selection of Butterflies onto this.

I cut out my butterflies and joined them using machine stitching.

I used a sheet of Deli paper to clean my brayer and my Gelli plate. I used this to stamp my quote from EAB11 onto.

I cut and stuck my quote onto the metal ring I used to hang my butterflies from.

I love how the quote I used fits around the sides of my hoop and the hanging bead trim really seems to make it all pop.

If you don't want to make a whole mobile you could just make a few strings of these to hang in a window. Some of the larger Butterfly images or Dragonflies on some of the other PaperArtsy Stamp sets would look really lovely and the Grafix paper is designed for mixed media so its very sturdy to use and I was pleased how well it sewed on my machine to join the butterflies together as this was the one bit I was worried about.

Thank you for reading my post and I can be found at the following places.
