2019 #1 Mustard: Egyptian Gold with LPC {by Kate Yetter}

2019 Topic 1: Mustard

This inspiring journal page has so many details, you'll be looking at it for ages. Kate shows brilliantly how to make a unique background that doesn't take away from the focal images. The way she's added the black as a foil to the stamped images is so clever.

Hi everyone, it's Kate Yetter with you today, and I'd like to share with you an art journal layout featuring the color mustard.

As soon as I saw this theme, I knew the newest stamps by Lynne Perrella were the perfect fit. I have always been intrigued by Ancient Egyptian art so my brain was teeming with ideas when approaching this journal layout.

I spent most of my efforts on the background, as I needed the right amount of pattern and texture to showcase these beautiful stamps. I layered various stencils using my Fresco Finish chalk paints.

Coloring the images is always my favorite part. I used the Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic paints to color the images but wanted some gold accents so I stamped and embossed some of the images in gold.

I kept true with the colors used in Ancient Egyptian art (blue, green, yellow, black and brown). I used the Lynne Perrella LP039 set.

I wanted to make the stamps the focal point of this journal layout so I embellished minimally so not to distract from the images.

Aside from adding gold embossing, I also added a bit of liquid clear embossing in select spots.

I love working with themes but I don't usually pick themes based on color so I looked upon this as a challenge. But I am absolutely loving the pop of mustard and the gold accents. I hope you are inspired to give the color challenge a try.

Ooh, wow - the drama of this is absolutely amazing. Fantastic detail, and so much going on, but so brilliantly handled that none of it is overwhelming.
