Welcome GD: Kate Yetter Project #1 Art Journal Cover {Part 1}

"Hello Kate here and welcome to a new week at PaperArtsy. I am so thrilled to be a guest designer! My first project that I will be sharing is an art journal cover. I used the following PaperArsty products including a few extra from my stash".

I chose a stencil, laid it over my chipboard and spread the amazing Grunge Paste. Grunge Paste, unlike any other texture paste that I have worked with, dries very quickly. I love that I don’t have to sit for an hour to wait for drying!

Make sure you are spreading the paste in a random fashion over the stencil. Making it too perfect doesn’t always look good. Here is how I did it.

Next, I covered the window on the back of the front cover by cutting some plain cardstock.

I then took left over Chatsworth paper and cut it into strips of various lengths and widths. Again, randomness looks best.

I then glued the paper strips over the white cardstock covering the window.

Apply a little bit of gesso over the paper strips but be sure to leave some color popping through.

I then applied a small drop of Sage and Guacamole FrescoFinish Paints to the front of my cover. I sprayed water directly onto the paint, allowing it to drip down the cover. I did this several times.

I then add a drop of Toffee paint to a Mini Mister and added some water. I shook it up until the paint was mixed, creating my own spray.

I stenciled over my cover using Black Soot Distress Ink and a Crafter’s Workshop stencil.

I took a script stamp from HP1011 and the compass from HP1110 and stamped them in  various colored inks over the cover, randomly.

At this point the background was too busy for me so I spread some gesso with a palette knife over various areas of the cover, being careful not to cover up all the color and texture.

I then started adding my embellishments. I put down some Lace and layered two stamped images from HP1110.

I wanted more color so I chose some darker colored sprays from my stash along with my homemade Toffee spray and dripped paint down the front of my cover.

Once the paint was dry I rubbed a little Copper Treasure Gold, using my finger, onto the textured areas.

I finished gluing my final stamped embellishments. And here is the completed art journal cover!

I hope you have enjoyed my first project, join me again tomorrow evening for more Paperartsy fun.
