2021 Topic 2 A Pocketful of ... Happy with ZA {by Tracey Springer}

 2021 Topic 2: A Pocketful of ...Llama Love {with Tracey Springer}

We have a new blogger on the team, meet Tracey from New Zealand. It was a bit of Llama drama getting these stamps to her in time for the blog post, but we did it and wow hasn't she created a totally fantastic post ?! I'm sure you'll look forward to seeing more from Tracey in the months to come! With a tonne of colour and a creatively stitched pocket opening, Tracey has made a pocketful of fun vibrant cards with a tonne of delightful details.
~ Keren

Hi everyone, it's Tracey Springer with you today. I have had the immense pleasure of playing with Elena Zinski's new stamps, and created a 'Pocketful of....Happy!'.

Making crazy, colourful cards has become my 'Happy' in this insane world we are in at the moment. I hope these make you smile like they have me!

I started out, as I usually do, by just stamping and colouring a pile of images. I am colouring with Copics but slowly bringing more paints in.

I spent an afternoon just playing with the Fresco Finish paints as backgrounds. I loved the very light watery finish to then stencil over. Backgrounds to build your cards on, really pull the whole thing together. This Jofy stencil - PS139 - really stood out for its versatility. I painted a heavier coat of Coral over the stencil, and then once it was dry I used a black pen to draw around the whole image.

Next step was having a play with a pocket folder type holder for some cards. I never have a set idea, things just evolve as I go. I used Fresco Finish Bubblegum and mismatched stripes for the front of the pocket. A couple of Coral strips snuck in, then this gorgeous pompom trim handstitched on, combined with pre-stamped and coloured images. Then a bit of sanding around the edges and pen line drawing to finish off.

I ended up with a concertina pocket with three slots to hold cards.

Then came the fun of creating cards. I like to use a heavy coat of gesso around the edges of my backgrounds to add a frame. I then start playing around with all of the stamped, pre-cut images, layering them till I'm happy before I adhere them. (I admit to not being able to do minimal; crazy, electric scenes are my happy.)

The black and white background card was something I don't normally do, but the stamps from ZA60 & ZA61, lent themselves to white heat embossing with just a couple of pre-cut images.

Al Paca Picnic; this card had to have a pocket to hide the 'Peek a boo' Alpaca.  He is such fun! A simple slit cut in the side of the background, distressed edge, and then adhered to the card makes a simple pocket to slide in and out of.

The final card, 'The Lama Queen', she speaks for herself really!

I hope you have enjoyed my play with these gorgeous stamps, and that you have been inspired to play. 'Think outside the box' and just enjoy the creative process.

2021 Topic 2 A Pocketful of Llama Drama with ZA {by Helen Chilton}

2021 Topic 2: A Pocketful of Llama Drama with ZA  {by Helen Chilton}

With a 'full on' full colour party atmosphere, Helen has created fun and ingenious book folded pockets. With alpacas and llamas appearing out of the pages of the book, this project is guaranteed to leave you with a grin.
~ Keren.

Hi everyone, it's Helen with you today, and I'd like to share with you several pockets full of Llama (and Alpaca) Drama! I thought long and hard about this topic and about how to create my pockets. I've always loved books - my house is full of them! I love using book pages and text in artwork. This time I've done a very basic folding technique to create lots of pockets for all my stamped images. Although it looks as though it takes a long time, it really doesn't once you get going.

I've used a hardback book for this as it gives a bit of weight to the base. Just fold each page in half.

There were about 150 pages in this book and you need at least that number to get a good, dense semi circle and to create tight enough pockets.

At this point I did try stamping onto the fold of the pages using the little circle stamp and paint, but it didn't work as I couldn't apply enough pressure without the pages buckling. So, instead I gave the edges a coat of white paint...

and then added colour.

I quite liked that effect.

To secure the pockets, I stapled pages together - these won't be visible from the outside.

I used the same colours on my stamped images. I stamped loads because I wasn't sure what I was going to use.

I also decided to go the whole hog and made the blankets on the animals into pockets and added flowers and leaves.

For the base boards I needed to cover up the paint I'd splashed, so I stamped in white paint on black. There are several stamps you could use to make patterns - these circles just fit the width of the book. I like the contrast of the black, too.

Then just slot in your images. I added some words and extra flowers/hands stuck onto painted coffee stirrers.

Decorate with more images and some computer text.

I've loved working with these stamps as they've got such character. Just look at the faces on those llamas and the grin on the alpaca! You can move them around as the mood takes you. Just remember - they need to sit at the top and slightly behind the top of the semi circle - any further forward and they won't be fully visible.
This was a surprisingly easy way to make pockets and also created a lot of surface area to work on. This is a very basic folding technique yet it serves its purpose. If you're interested in more advanced projects, have a look on Pinterest - there are some amazing book sculptures out there.

Hi everyone, Elena here with you. "Llamaste" see what i did there? :)

We have all been dealing with challenging times for the past year and we're missing celebration and gatherings, hustle and bustle so it's time for some bright colour and smile makers! I have this small but exceedingly fat journal that I carry around in my bag and I doodled a Llama a couple of years ago on the train going to Tottenham Court Road, a man sitting opposite me was drinking lemonade from a can and I thought...oooooh Llamanade :D need i say more? So this is where the Llamanade Llama's came to mind and here they are, aren't they glorious, a couple of them are such diva's bordering on being Llama Queens...ok, I'll stop haha. Carry on scrolling and enjoy what Keren has done here, absolutely fabulous!!

Zinski Art Set 59 (ZA59)

This was a fun project to create. The whole set of images just cries out 'party' and 'Fiesta'. It's easy to make a card but I wanted to use the new green Fresco Acrylics with some other bright colours to bring a liveliness to the creations. The paints are just amazing on fabric and much easier to paint with than you'd imagine. Adding a bright fabric piece below the llama helps ground it (particularly as I had to chop her feet off!).

Zinski Art Set 60 (ZA60)

The sentiment in this set was the springboard for the idea behind the design. I love a good kinetic card and using the other llama (or is an alpaca?!) to be the 'peek a paca boo' tied the sentiment perfectly in with the stamps.

Zinski Art Set 61 (ZA61)

This pair are quirky and look like they'd be high maintenance! I wanted to create a frame using some of the elements ( borrowed from the other two sets). They all work together so perfectly and are great to make a scene. Making mitred corners with each stamped strip is a fab way of adding more dimension and something to add the llamas on to. I love that Zinski stamps just make you smile when you create them and when you see them!

Project: The Small Things

One of the brilliant things about Elena's stamp sets is all the extra smaller elements she adds into the sets. I thought I'd create a card just using a smaller image. I'm trying to using paints in quick ways so grabbed each colour of paint and dragged it across a piece of Smoothy using a sponge.

Making contact points across the stamped piece meant the flowers would still stay connected and I'd end up with a full piece.

Adding foam pads under the piece adds great dimension. There are so many different ways to use the images. It's been great fun creating with the new Zinski sets and I can't wait to explore other ideas with them.

Keren's use of colour has brightened my mood instantly, thank you for such wonderful inspiration. Have fun lovelies, let's party Fiesta Style!
