NEW PaperArtsy Products {Darcy} June 2018

NEW PAPERARTSY PRODUCTS JUNE 2018

Eclectica³ Collection: Darcy

It's lovely to have Darcy share with us some new character stamps. She's been a busy lady since starting an illustration degree at university 2 years ago, and so we are thrilled to have some additions to her little family of people! These are designed to work perfectly with her last 2 stamps, so more options for you! Our bloggers love them, I'm sure you will too and tonight Darcy is here to share with you how they came to be! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, Darcy here to show you my newest stamps designed for PaperArtsy.

These designs are a follow on from the 2 I designed late 2017...here is a reminder of those stamps. EDY20 and EDY21.

It was an exciting design procedure this time, for me, as I was also using some of these designs for one of my illustration modules at university. I had to do a lot of research into the craft industry and conduct interviews, all fascinating stuff. I then had to delve into where my own influences come from, this led me down some interesting rabbit trails, and along the way I discovered some new artists, my favourite one being Mark Ryden

The design process was lengthier than usual, we have to show all of our 'working out' at uni. For 2 stamp plates and 2 stencils I handed in over 200 pages of sketches and written work!
I was really happy with the end results though, some parts were a steep learning curve but these little characters made themselves known and shone through, and now I can send them out into the world to play with you.

I love children's books and nonsense stories, it is my hope that you create stories of your own with these characters and the sets of words. Why should sentiments be boring? have fun, be silly, pick the words at random and see what happens! Use them for titles, sentiments, messages, poem and journalling, most of all use the words to let the characters tell you their stories. I can't wait to show you my new stamps, there's an art sample for each new product too.

  New Stamps

These stamps are red rubber on EZ mount cling foam, with a laminated index sheet for storage. We press all our stamps here at PA HQ. The rubber we use is a super soft, art quality, designed specifically for good ink-to-surface transfer. Rubber is a natural resource, durable and all our production processes are environmentally friendly too! A rubber stamp is a stamp for life!

All Darcy's images are trimmed out nicely, the words will just need snipping apart.

Price: RRP £17.08 +VAT
Size: 5" x 6.5" (13cm x 16.5cm)

Eclectica³ Darcy Set 22 {EDY22}

This is Cedric and Cat, hanging out on a summery day under the flowers. You will see I also used an older stencil for the grass edging. I love this fresh, bright colour scheme, it really works with the playful personalities of the characters. the flowers worked especially well using coloured inks, the super bendy stems give you lots of options for placement.

Eclectica³ Darcy Set 23 {EDY23}

Here are Chester and Poppie, telling their stories in an enchanted forest. Again bendy stems on the mushroom trees make placement easy and provide a canopy of fun spotty tree for our two friends. I love their little faces and simple clothes, meaning there are unlimited ways to colour them in, perhaps use patterned papers for funky outfits, it will also be easy to stamp and move the arms to have them reaching out, perhaps holing hands.

New Stencils

Our stencils are all made on site here at PA HQ. We use a strong mylar so that it gives depth for pastes, and durability for easy clean up.

Price: RRP £4.60 +VAT
Size: Regular 6.5" x 7" (16cm x 18cm)

PaperArtsy Stencil {EDY} 103 (PS103)

This is such a nice tree, with lots of interesting branches, what are those little blue birds doing, are they friends? I really enjoyed building up the shading with layers of stencilling, the flower border is a chance to bring in some colours that really pop. I am looking forward to using this tree in backgrounds and also as a focal image, and the flowers will be a great excuse to ad lots of doodling.

PaperArtsy Stencil {EDY} 104 (PS104)

Another enchanted forest, 'mushrooms at midnight' . I love that these mushroom trees can be cut down in height to just mushrooms, and they look great in any colour combination. I have been watching the birds in my garden a lot lately, I think they heavily influenced this line of birds. This is how I see them, all lined up on my fence waiting to be fed.

Both these stencil sets have sections (flowers and birds) that pop out to be used as masks, these are going to be really useful to use on the gelli plate, I am looking forward to creating some great backgrounds with them.

Project One: Tag Folder

I've made a folder from heavy watercolor paper, this stood up to a lot of layers of Fresco paints, stencilling and stamping, and is sturdy enough to stand up once folded. I filled it with tags made from both sets of stamps and stencils.

Project Two: Notebook

I've also made a notebook cover, this is just a small notebook, idea for popping into a handbag. The base fabric is just calico dye with spray inks, it came out a little too dark, next time I would rinse off some dye before drying to achieve a lighter staining. but overall I am happy and will be using this for shopping lists.

I love the little faces of Cedric, Poppie and Chester, framed in fringed fabric, like windows or small cameos!

Project three: Matchstick Legs

I saw some fabulous matchbox projects on the blog of Merve Gizem Sincik and I just had to have a go, I adore how this turned out, it makes me laugh every time I open the box and see his legs. I used Distress oxides and Infusions, along with both stencils.

Hahaha...the fun you could have hiding all sorts of legs, trousers, shoes inside that box.

So much fun, I hope you agree. I have have enjoyed creating these characters and I look forward to making new worlds for them and listening to their stories. What stories will you write, I can't wait to see and read whatever you come up with.

Project four: Mushroom Specimens

I love the spotty mushroom tree, and wanted to create a sample showing different techniques , so here I have used stencilling, blending, layering, crackling and stamping. So many great effects can be achieved using the stencils as a guide.

I think my favourite from the mushroom garden is this one, coloured using the 'rusty' paint colours from Seth Apter,  (Terracotta, Smoked Paprika, Mahogany, Mud Splat and Green Patina) a few Jofy grasses fill in the gaps nicely.

I hope you have been inspired to create new worlds and stories of your own, make up some fun sentences, even poems, colour in Cedric, Lola, Chester and Poppie and send them out into the world to make everyone smile.
