2018 #10 Paper Dolls: Small is Beautiful with EDY {by Carol Fox}

2018 Topic 10: Paper Dolls

PaperArtsy HQ intro to the post / and the blogger...

Hi everyone, it's Carol with you today, and I'd like to share with you a mixed Media journal page. I love to combine vintage collage elements with stamped images, bringing the old and the new together and blending them into one timeless journal page with the use of paints and ink is something I appreciate having learnt from one of my friends Mandy Chilvers.

An image will often bring a quote to mind that sets the idea for the whole page, just as it did here and then it's just a case of layering up your paint and collage images to bring it all to life.

To get and idea of how my image would lay on my page and how to work all my elements together I laid out my basic bits onto my black gessoed sheet.

I added colour by dry brusing over my background using Fresco Finish paints Zesty Zing, Coral and Slimed. I added stamping using the background type stamps from EDY20. I like how by applying the paint in two different ways I have two different "shades" of the same paint.

To get an idea of how to position my stencil and images I laid out my stencil PS075 and main image again on my page, and stamped my quote from  One Penny - Plate one and also added some paint (Fresco finish Coral) bumped through Stencil PS001 to add a bit of colour continuity to my page as it all looked a bit disjointed.

Now I had an idea of how my stencil imaged would sit I messed around with my collage elements, my favourite bit,

Mixing up stamped images from EDY20 with my collage elements. I also cut and coloured the little bumpy border from the side of the house on EDY21.

I coloured all my stamped images blue to bring the wings and circle into the page a little bit better. I was intending to use blue paint at one point but I got so into the collage element that I forgot so I did this instead and I quite like the random pops of blue so I am happy.

I used Stencil PS036...

... to drag lines of black in from the edges to border the page and fill in any gaps and just generally bring the whole page together.

I used the stencil and large bird to give and idea of smallness to the image to fin in with my quote which was my whole inspiration for this page. I do love how a quote can so easily change the whole idea of a page or give a whole new meaning to an image.

It is also so easy to give a mass retail image as here your own twist just by adding simple things to the image. I have added a crown and wings, but she would have looked just as good with a weird tale and a trident to make a little mermaid. (that was my other idea for her but then I remembered this quote and I had to use it.)

Thank you for visiting and you can find me at the place below.
