2015 #13 Flower Clock {by Tracy Scott}

 2015 Topic 13: Time

Hi everyone and what an honour it is to be here today….

My name is Tracy Scott and when at the ‘day job’ I am a Finance Officer from East London but in every waking moment of my spare time I am a Mixed Media Artist and Teacher, Wife, Mummy and Nanny to my 2 beautiful grandbabies.

I love nothing better than getting inky and painty and am attracted to all things bright and beautiful which certainly influences me when I work, I love to throw bright colours together and just play and see where the mood takes me !!

When I was first given this theme my initial reaction was ‘Oh No’! For some reason the theme ‘Time’ initially conjured up clocks, vintage images and brown and gold tones which is most definitely not ‘Me’ but I sat back and had a good think about it and suddenly it came to me, my mother in law had given us a freebie clock which had never seen the light of day and was just waiting for the right project to come up !!!!!!

Step One: I started by removing the clock hands and giving the whole thing a coat of gesso before sponging on a mix of Fresco Finish Limelight and Fresco Finish Mermaid paints, I used a stencil to add some texture in Limelight and then used the flower stem stamp from the JOFY Collection 32 stamp set and stamped directly onto the clock face.

Step Two: I then stamped the large flower stamp from the JOFY Collection 32 stamp set ...

...onto white card and painted with Fresco Finish Yellow Submarine, London Bus and Orchid paints before cutting out.

Step Three: I continued by painting the small stem flowers directly on the clock face with Fresco Finish Yellow Submarine, London Bus, Orchid and Beach Hut paints and added some drawn leaves which I painted in Limelight. Once these were all painted I adhered the large painted flowers to the clock face to create some dimension, and stamped some small flowers onto white card which I left uncoloured for the centres.

Step Four: To finish of I pencilled in my quote and then went over with a Black waterproof pen, adding the number 3 to my clock face as well. I stamped and coloured the butterfly from the JOFY Collection 32 stamp set and used a mix of Fresco Finish Yellow Submarine, Orchid and London Bus paints for this. I then reassembled the hands on the clock and adhered the butterfly to one on the hands so that it sits above the background and looks like it is moving.

My favourite part of this project is the dimension, the stamps really did lend themselves to being layered to create a 3D piece.

I loved making this project, the colours of the Fresco Acrylic Paints are amazing and a pleasure to work with and I adore the gorgeous Flowers and Butterfly on this stamp set, they really lend themselves to being layered, I am not a big fan of my own handwriting (most of us aren’t are we ??) but really like the way this quote and even my handwriting blends perfectly with the stamps and makes this project all the more personal to me.
