3 Things - The Golden Girl {by Mags Woodcock}

Hi everyone, it's  Mags here with you today for a 'With 3 Things' challenge post. 

This feature on the PaperArtsy Blog is where 3 identical items are sent to 3 members of the PaperArtsy Blogging team. Typically we will receive a stamp, a stencil and a colour product.

We have no clue what PaperArtsy HQ is going to send, the whole idea of this challenge is to do something crafty in our personal style with these 3 items. 

We can incorporate other PA products into the mix if we feel it is necessary.

So let's take a look at what I received from PA HQ ...

As you can see here, I received a gorgeous mini stamp (TSM19) and A5 stamp set (TS055) by Tracy Scott, along with a bottle of Ochre Translucent fresco Finish chalk Acrylic (FF195)

I must admit yellow isn't a colour I naturally gravitate towards, so I had to put my thinking cap on. A few ideas crossed my mind, including creating an art doll, but in the end I decided on a journal page with the sweet girl as the focal. I also decided to add my favourite Infusion, Just Walnut (CS25) into the mix

Lets take a closer look at what I made ....

I started with the background to my journal page, stamping the mandala randomly, overlapping the edge of the page sometimes. I used Versafine Clair ink to capture the tiny details in the stamp.

Whilst the ink was still wet I sprinkled on clear embossing powder, then tipped away the surplus powder and added heat to activate the powder.

I wanted a slightly grungy look to my page, so I spritzed the page with diluted Just Walnut Infusions

I liked the look of the infusions, but wanted more solid colour on the mandalas, so I used a brush to add more to the centre.

It was time for the Ochre Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic to come out to play. So I added some to the mandalas.

I was happy how the background was coming together, but it just needed a couple of finishing touches, so I used a gold and a white gel pen to add details to the mandalas.

The background was finished, it was now time to move onto the focal area of the page. I decided to create a frame for our girl to look out from. So I sprayed a sheet of copy paper with just Walnut infusions. Whilst that was drying I cut out a frame from recycled cardboard.

I covered the frame with the dyed copy paper, and also covered a panel with recycled tissue, this would sit behind the frame on my page.

The frame needed some details and interest, so I used more of the images from the large stamp set (TS055). 

To tie the frame into the rest of the page, I coloured the images with more Just Walnut Infusions and added gold pen details.

It was now time to see how I could use that lovely Ochre colour combined with the sweet girl stamp.

I began by stamping our girl in Archival ink onto Smoothy Card (SCA4). It was time to experiment with the just Walnut to create a nice skin toned Infusion. I diluted the Just Walnut and added a tiny touch of diluted Magenta Infusions (CS23), it was perfect. 

I always wanted the beads in our girls hair to be yellow, so I decided she also needed to have blond hair. Mixing some of the Ochre Fresco with a touch of diluted Just Walnut and plain water gave me the perfect blond hair colour.

The girls beads just needed some pure Ochre Fresco with a touch of shading and a white gel pen high light. I also added a touch of soft pencil shading in some areas of her hair. She was pretty as a picture.

All that was needed now was to add our girl to the frame , a few scraps of book pages, part of a stamped mandala, word sticker, and the dotty tissue background and she was ready for her close up.

I was excited to bring everything together to finish my page, so lets take a look.

I think you'll agree our girl looks very at home in the frame.

I think the frame adds a little more drama and focus to our pretty girl, I hope you agree.

Just a few more details to share with you.

The white pen work ties in with the lighter areas of the frame for a cohesive look to the page.

The gold tissue adds a touch of bling to the page, could our girl be a princess ? I'll let you decide !

I'm really please with how the shading and highlights on the beads and hair adds depth to the image.

Adding the book page scraps around the frame just lifts it a little and adds definition to the frame edges.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing how I used the mystery products sent by PaperArtsy HQ and how I overcame the challenge of using yellow Ochre. I will definitely be combining it with Just Walnut again in the future. I have lots of stamped images of our girl still to use, so I may well create an art doll or two with those.

Tracy Scott - A5 stamp set 107 {TS107}

I'm always looking for ideas to expand on my previous release stamps and stencils and this one fits with a number of previous releases, it will work with the Asian inspired stamps and stencils (TS089, TS093, PS433, PS443, & Minis TSM26, TSM28 & TSM29) but will also fit perfectly with my previous henna style flower sets (TS064 & TS091).  Just imagine all the possibilities if you combine this new set with the older releases.

For my first sample I decided on a very simple background using one of the shape stamps and a coloured Buddha on top... it really doesn't need any more than that.....

My second sample, I used a previously made background which used TS064 a previously released stamp set featuring henna style flowers and elements, I knew it would work perfectly with the Buddha design stamp and decided to change things up by using some of my new flower stamps which you will see further down in this post...

We all know how much I love a mandala so my last sample with this set was made using just the various shapes stamps to create this beautiful multi coloured one using my prismacolor pencils, there are unlimited variations you can create with this set and I will be making a lot more for sure.

Tracy Scott - A5 stamp set 108 {TS108}

Flowers flowers flowers, I can never get enough of them so of course I needed to add some new beauties to my collection and this set has been an absolute joy to colour and use in my samples,  I already know that these will be reached for time and time again...

I absolutely loved creating this sample, these stamps are so beautiful to colour in, I repurposed a previous background as I fell in love with the colours and matched it to my prismacolor pencils, these stamps also work really well to create multiple layers for a beautiful 3D effect. 

One thing that I like to do with my stamps when I receive them is create some black and white samples to simply test out what the stamps can do. I find it a great way to play around but without the time constraints of spending lots of time colouring in. Sometimes I simply stamp and other times I stamp and cut out.

For this one I repeatedly stamped and cut out before arranging and layering to create this 3D floral wreath. 

Tracy Scott - A5 stamp set 109 {TS109}

A stylised bee has been on my list for some time now and as we are now entering the summer season here in the UK (not that you would know it with the weather!!) I felt it was the right time for this beauty to be added to my collection.

As always I try to create sets that can be used in lots of different ways, I love to cut apart my stamps to create something new and this set works perfectly for this.

I absolutely adore this sample, this is typical of me using the stamps but not in the way they were intended.... I cut apart the bee to create fairy wings for one of my mini doll stamps and to also create some black and white leaves to intersperse between the flowers. How cute does she look.......

Again I stamped and cut apart the various stamps in this set and came up with all these variations of florals, bees and a weird hybrid insect which I love !!! With the flowers and the additions petal stamps it allows you to create so many different types and sizes of florals, I also created the huge flower by using the bees body as an extra large petal... I think it looks amazing.

PaperArtsy Stencil by Tracy Scott 518 {PS518}

I love and mandala and I love creating these half stencils, they can easily bee flipped to create a full mandala and the extra shapes on the stencil and there so that you can expand the size of the mandala way past the 6x9 inches of the stencil itself. Of course the pretty hearts will also be fabulous stencilled into a background on a page.

For this sample I played around with embossing powder on a sheet of scrapbook paper that had been sitting on my desk for a while. I flipped the stencil to c create a full mandala and then used this as a base for my flowers, I played around with a couple of ideas before settling on a full rainbow wreath....

PaperArtsy Stencil by Tracy Scott 519 {PS519}

I'm always creating florals but very rarely add leaves to my collection so I felt it was about time I added a large focal leaf stencil that could be used as a stand alone but also to be used in conjunction with all my lovely flower stamps.

How beautiful does this reverse stencilling look against this fantastic brightly painted background, once dry, I added some more of those fabulous coloured flowers and another variation of the buddha stamp this time with open eyes!!!..... and did you notice the heart masala stencil added into the background too... this one has a bit of everything.

PaperArtsy Stencil by Tracy Scott 520 {PS520}

I actually designed this stencil around 18 months ago after I had released the various oriental stamp sets and stencils and knew that with the release of the Buddha stamp set this was the perfect time for this one to enter the world.  This one will be perfect for backgrounds and particularly good for cut pages too, and will co ordinate perfectly with this release as well as being used with previous releases to open up lots of new possibilities.

I knew that I needed to do a cut page with this stencil and this pattern was a dream to cut into my journal, when I started to colour the lotus flower part of the stencil I turned it upside down and  noticed immediately that it had a butterfly bug type shape to it so straight away the idea for the page changed. I cut the antenna and legs from the bee stamp and added to the coloured stencil and tadaaaaa...  oriental butterfly incoming!!

I used the shape stamps from. the buddha set to create a background border and frame for my page and added a coloured buddha to complete the page.

 

I hope I've given you plenty of ideas for using these new stamps and stencils, I can't wait to see what you create.....
