2015 Topic 13: Time
Hi everyone Keren
here, joining you this evening with a post about using pastels. It's a
long time since I've used them with stamps and so I wanted to re-visit a
super simple technique with a really easy and vibrant medium and
combine with one of the new Hot Picks set that fits perfectly with the
theme.
I
started with the easiest of cards. Simple stamping with Versamark Ink
and then using some super-cheap pastels gently rub over the stamped
area. Smudge with your finger and set with a matte sealer or some cheap
hairspray.
I
wanted to add a sharp contrast and so used some black shrink plastic
and white permanent ink. By adding links and only attaching the top
clock, it adds a moveable element too. I loved the shine of the shrink
plastic, so added a non-shrunk piece too. I wanted to explore a little more using HP1502.
I've
gathered my supplies, some wooden dominoes, cheap pastels, tissue paper and stamps. I wanted to see whether the pastel/Versamark would work
well on tissue so I could add it to less easy to stamp surfaces.
The chunky bracelet worked perfectly.
Stamp
a collage of the images in the set. I stamped in Versamark and really
carefully added the pastels. If you had higher quality pastels, they'd
go on with less drag, so probably quality is the way to go.
Measure around the wooden dominoes and cut out.
I used a Matte medium type glue both to stick the tissue down and for a topcoat.
You have to be very gentle smoothing down as the tissue is so fragile.I
sealed it further with a spray varnish that had sparkle in it.
Pastels
are a gorgeous way to add multicoloured detail to stamped images. I've
not seen much pastel use around and about blogland recently and would
love to see how others use them. You can really smudge the colours or
keep them sharper depending on the look you're after. Now I've seen that
they work so well with tissue paper, you can use them anywhere, just
don't forget to seal them. Try adding them to layers of tissue stacked
on top of each other, or even experiment with acetate, acrylic and wood.
Hope
you've enjoyed this simple technique-perfect for newbie stampers too!

Yes- I'm no Pan Pastels expert but you'd get lovely soft results with less drag than my cheap sticks!!
