2015 Theme 3: Paint
Hi everyone Sue here, joining you this evening with a post about bright paints on white !
I love how the beautiful Fresco colours pop when applied over white paint. Tonight's project is a canvas using the new little houses by Lin Brown. I had an image in my head of them hidden among bright, tropical flowers !
I love how the beautiful Fresco colours pop when applied over white paint. Tonight's project is a canvas using the new little houses by Lin Brown. I had an image in my head of them hidden among bright, tropical flowers !
Step One:
First of all I painted the canvas with Caribbean Sea, as it's an opaque which covers the canvas in one step beautifully.
StepTwo:
I then stencilled the large flower using the ELB005 stencil and stamped the text from the ELB06 set onto tissue paper and stuck them to the canvas by painting Caribbean Sea on the reverse of the tissue paper. I also used stamps from the new...
I then gave the whole thing a wash of Caribbean Sea mixed with a little Chalk Fresco Finish. I felt it needed another layer of something and texture was calling ! So, I mixed some Grunge Paste with Caribbean Sea and used the ELB004 stencil. Much better !

ELB13,
ELB16
and ELB17..
to paint the little flowers with Blood Orange Fresco Finish.

StepThree:
I then started to make the flowers, and painted some Smoothy card with Caribbean Sea. Then used stencils ELB004 and ELB005, first of all with Snowflake Fresco Finish.
Step Four:
I then replaced the stencil and used Banana, dried it off, replaced the stencil and then used Tangerine Twist.
Step Five:
I continued stencilling, drying and replacing the stencil using Tango, Autumn Fire and finally Blood Orange. I then cut the flowers out leaving a small border of Caribbean Sea.
Step Six:
I painted some more Smoothy card with Tango, Banana and Caribbean Sea and stamped the little house from ELB13 several times, cut out the roof and door and used foam pads for the roof.
I then stuck the flowers and houses to the canvas and added the text from the ELB05 set. I added some metal corners and a metal handle to the top.
Using bright colours over the top of white paint is a fantastic way to allow all the gorgeous, translucent colours in the Fresco Finish range to 'pop' true to their colour, and contrast with the background perfectly.
I love how the colours blend so well together and it gives you the freedom to use any of the colours!
Tip: if you are using a stencil over and over for different colours, mark on your stencil in the direction you've used it so when you come to replace it, you can match the stencil up more easily. Particularly helpful on a pattern like this.

Over to you now, hope you have fun stencilling over white !

Sue, I cannot believe how excited I got looking at the fine dot stencil mixed with GP...how have I not thought to use that stencil for texture before! Love how that finished the canvas perfectly at that stage. It's such a great project! ~ Leandra

I am so excited by this, sue! I love the effect you have achieved with the flowers using the new colours, especially as I just got mine today. Thanks for all the tips; I love the idea of the dot stencil for texture and marking the stencil for the position, you must be a good teacher,
