2017 Topic 14: Glitter
I'm
getting the feeling as we work through this topic that most of the
PaperArtsy bloggers are not massive glitter fans! They all seem to be
finding subtle ways with it! Nikki is up tonight, and she uses a lovely
autumnal colour palette and has some tricks for keeping your sparkles
under control!
Hi everyone, it's Nikki from Addicted to Art with
you today, and I'd like to share with you a glittery Christmas card
featuring the wonderful Christmas stamps from Kay Carley.
When
I think of glitter I think of mess and those cheap Christmas cards you
buy and open the packet or envelope and the glitter goes everywhere! But
I do love a bit of sparkle and have realised there are ways of using
glitter where it doesn't keep coming off.
I
have used glitter in 3 ways on this card and thrown in some gilding
flakes for extra dazzle and used stamps from both EKC10 and EKC11.
Both sets of trees work wonderfully for the simplest or more layered, mixed media style cards. I have used the snowflakes / stars and branches to add interest to my backgrounds.

The
gilding flake and glitter backdrop to the frame is Sue Wilson's 'Fire
and Ice' technique - gilding flakes on one side of a double sided
adhesive sheet (clear) and glitter on the other. I used Cosmic Shimmer
Glitter Jewels. The technique really does produce a wonderful glimmer
and sparkle that is hard to see on the photographs.
Layered die cut frames were painted with Snowflake Fresco Chalk Paint before being covered in matt medium and clear glitter added - I used Tim Holtz Rock Candy Distress Glitter here. The stamped tree has gold coloured glitter glue added - eg Stickles.
The
Christmas Wishes greeting on EKC11 is on two lines but I really needed
the words on one line so out came the post it notes! Mask one word, ink,
remove the mask and stamp and then repeat with the other word. I find
it can take a couple of attempts to get the words lined up so I always
make sure I have spare of the card I am working on.
As the glitter is hard to photograph here is a 20 second video that shows the sparkle!
While perhaps not my normal style I really love the gilding flakes and glitter together. I will have to make some more of my Christmas cards with this and some of Kay's other trees with the snowflakes in the background this time. I am pleased to say after a few days the glitter is not coming off at all!

Love it !
Beautiful and subtle use of glitter! Love the gilding flakes.
Adoring your creation Nikki. It's worthy of becoming a picture framed upon the wall! Xx
The "fire and ice" panel is amazing, and I love how you've sandwiched it between the green layers creating those multiple frames, drawing the eye inward towards the golden baubles on the tree. Brilliant!

Great project Nikki - more grungier than I would expect when I think of glitter!
Love the look of the Fire and Ice panel! Nikki showed that glitter doesn't have to be gaudy.
This is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!
Great take on the glitter theme Nikki, it can be difficult to tone down so much glitter but you've perfected it!! This would look fab framed..
Hugs Tracey xx

Thank you for sharing your ways of practicing 'safe glitter'. The effects are really stunning and your design is fabulous! Hugs!
That is lovely. I like the idea of glitter over gilding flakes.
