2015 #11 Hidden Text {by Helen Chilton}

2015 Theme 11: Hidden Objects

Hi everyone Helen here, joining you this evening with a post about Hidden Objects.Well, mine is actually hidden text using an interactive piece of wall art with a pull tab. You could of course use this on cards, journal pages, whatever you like. You can also have more than one tab going at the same time: the important thing to remember is not to stick down any moving parts.

I used Hot Pick 1306 for this project and stamped the girl roughly in the middle of a piece of white card and masked it off:

Then, using the text stamps, and Lin Brown's Limited Edition paints (set 3), I stamped the fish text in Caribbean Sea, making sure the fish went round the edges and then overstamped the other text in Banana:

After that I added more text and the filmstrip border from the girl image in Bougainvillea and painted in the central image:

Next comes the cutting and folding and I've drawn this onto a black and white image to make it easier to see:

Follow those lines and you can't go wrong! Then cut another piece of card the same size to go underneath. Lay the original on top and mark the aperture onto the layer below so you can see exactly where the paint and text needs to go. Also paint a strip of card the same width as the aperture:

Using double sided tape, stick the lower folded edge to the end of the blue strip:

Cut a slit just above the image and feed the strip back through to the front to make your pull tab mechanism. Trim the strip and finish off with black stamping:

And here's what happens when you pull the tab:

and a close up:

Well, I enjoyed making that using those fabulous paint colours and the wonderful images. No one can resist pulling a tab, so this sort of project works for all ages, male or female. The mechanism is fairly straightforward, it's just a case of trying it out and having a go. So let's see what you can come up with!

That's a great idea. I like the fact it's interactive. So often Art is a "Hands Off" experience. Lx
