Every now and then you need a really big stamp, and for the front cover of this gorgeous box, Jennie selected Seth's fabulously detailed stamps. She's stepped off the cliff into the dark unknown word of masculine stamping. Read on to see how Jennie created such a treasure of a memory box! ~Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Jennie (Live the Dream) with you today sharing a small photo storage box which was just perfect for these wonderful Seth Apter stamps. 

I have to admit to being very excited BUT somewhat panicky when I saw the Seth Apter stamps - they are fabulous but sooooo out of my usual flowery vintage shabby chic genre! I just love it when Leandra pushes us to try different things and I have to say that once I started on my box I was very happy!

I decided to pair the stamps with some of Seth's recent paint releases to create a focal point for the rather handsome gent but more of that later.

The box die I have used enables storage of 6" x 4" photographs and I have been making these for various members of the family, but so far had not made one for my father. They are really lovely to have stacked on the shelf in the study and when I find a photograph I can just pop it in the relevant box rather than having loads of envelops here there and everywhere!

I chose to use Seth Apter's stamps ESA05 as the various additional elements just really jump out and I thought there was huge scope for layering them.

I made the box out of heavy greyboard and coated it first with Fresco Chalk Acrylic Chalk before adding some texture with Grungepaste using Scrapcosy stencils PS049 and PA065 The box was then inked with Vintage Photo Distress Oxides.

I wanted to create a rusty focus for the main image and was inspired by Nikki Acton's wonderful video using Seth Apter paints to create rusty textured surfaces. Here's the video below.

As Nikki shows, I painted my cardstock with Black Gesso using a thick brush and trying to get as much texture as possible. Next came some dry brushing with Fresco Finish Chalk Paint before I added a watery puddles of Seth's new Fresco Finish Chalk Paint in Jade, and Green Patina, with a little bit of Brown Shed added in as well. This took a couple of coats but the effect is really amazing! I wanted to highlight the texture so blended Jet Black Archival Ink over the whole piece with a soft cloth - I love how the texture picks up the ink.

Finally I added some gold wax gently over the top with my finger to really bring out the texture.

Close up you can see how the Black Ink has knocked back the colours to create the patina effect. 

I couldn't not use this little piece left over after die cutting the middle of the frame! 

This is a great stamp set for layering .... I have used the stamps on coffee stained paper to create a vintage look. (The smell is lovely .... !) I could have done more layering but this box needs to sit on a shelf with others so I was trying to keep it reasonably flat!

I cut another frame for the back of the box ....

.... which I layered with more of Seth's stamps. I love being able to isolate small words for layering and the large stamp is just great for that.

So from my usual shabby chic to masculine rust - my initial panic for this project was totally wiped away once I started using these fabulous stamps and with the wonderful inspiration from Nikki for creating a rusty background I really did enjoy putting this together. I can't wait to experiment with the rusty technique - perhaps using softer pastel colours as well .... I am sure it will work a treat. Liz is wonderful at creating these 3D pieces. She always has a wonderful colour palette, and texture is usually there in a soft and subtle way. yet again she's done it with this gorgeous box! ~ Leandra 

Hi there to everyone, I'm back again with today's blog post . I've decorated a box with Kay Charley's lovely Floral stamps and as usual when I'm working it's turned out pretty ! 

I painted the whole box with Chalk paint , two coats sanding between  coats to get a smooth surface . This is a good colour because it's a soft white .
 
I stencilled through a swirly stencil using Wateringcan Archival ink . This gave me a nice soft grey that was permanent .

I then stamped randomly with the same colour some words from  ESC04 . 

Finally I stamped the flowers from EKC01 and EKC14 . 

The top of the box has a recess in it which I covered with a separately stamped piece of card . Around the edges I spread Grunge Paste through a stencil . You can see that I added a little stamping between these areas as before .

The insert was painted with Chalk paint to match the rest of the box .. I then stencilled as before . The stamping used only the Floral stamps . 

All the flowers were painted using the Infusions powders as Paints . Put a little powder onto the palette and add water to get the desired depth of colour . I've used quite a lot of colours washing them over each other in different areas . On the top insert I also sprinkled a little of Violet Storm and spritzed with water .

This shows the side of the box .  I used a little of the following colours of infusions: Blackcurrent , Olive Tree , Raspberry , The Sage , Emerald Isle , In the Navy Are you Cerise and lots of Violetta.

Finally I rubbed White Fire Treasure Gold over the raised areas on the top of the box and around the edges . I added a few butterflies that were coloured using colours from the palette and a few flowers from my stash .

This box could have been painted in any range of colour  because the background is neutral.These stamps are lovely and I hope you have enjoyed my idea as much as I enjoyed making it .

Etsuko's gift box is literally the gift that just keeps giving. I loved the decorated box, but the added bonus was that she kept going with an amazing bird cage,and then some delightful tags! Hi everyone, it's Etsuko (My Favorite Things) with you today, and I'd like to share with you my take on our wondreful topic Boxes. I like this three-dimensional project and it is a lot of fun to build with some material and techniques. Tonight I used PA stamps, paints. clay, wire and small wooden box...Le's get started, please enjoy!!

I remembered my cousin sending small present for her friends and I decided to make small box to put in greeting tags to her.

 
I took this box what I used : The dimension of the wood case is H65mm x W100 x L120mm.

I painted white gesso in the box.

First I planned painting on the direct box but I made the masterboard using Raquel's Gelli technique on the paper. I used Sara's new stencil PS090 by Space Cadet and Chalk Fresco on the smoothy regular 240gms white card.

I arranged the Gelli printing surface with Seth ESA02 and Jofy new stamp Jofy62.

I glued the masterboard to the box and painted the inside by Space Cadet, Chalk and Gold Fresco.

I stuck the masterboard but the box shape is so flat, I decided to add something interesting. 

I remembered lovebird in Elena's new stamp ZA20 and came up this idea- birdcage on the lid. I stamped the lovebird on the extended polymer clay, slashed with a knife and warmed up in the oven for 20 minutes. Once it cooled down I painted by Southern Skies and White Fire Fresco.

The cage made by wire and beads, the wire work was harder than accessories chain...The finish was clumsy!

I set the birdcage on the lid of the box.

Also I made these greeting tag to put in the box. Used craft paper as the tag mount, randomly glued the leftover masterboard, and stamped several images with Chalk Fresco. I then made the embellishments with Elena's mini stamps. ZN13, ZN20, ZN22, ZN30, ZN31, ZN32. I used watercolor and fussy cut leave the white part then hung it with wire and beads to the tags.

I would be happy if you like this project. Elena's new stamps are so cute and various kinds of world has developed with background, and these are so useful such as a greeting card, journal, 3D figures and more. Gelli play is very fun and sometimes get happy results. Hope you will start to make and enjoy with them.

Hi everyone, it's Anneke here today. I'd like to share with you a matchbox art project I created for the 'Boxes' topic. I transformed a large (12,5 x 6,5 x 2,2 cm) matchbox into a little giftbox. The decorated box contains a handmade mini garland. I have previously altered a number of matchboxes for all kinds of occasions. I usually decorate those boxes with patterned paper but for this project I grabbed my PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics, stamps and stencils and created my own patterned paper. 

For this project I used stamps from 2 of the latest Eclectica Tracy Scott stamp sets (ETS14 & ETS15).

I'm very fond of the flowers from the ETS15 set, I used them on the giftbox as well as for the garland. 

I decorated both the outer box and the inner drawer of the matchbox.

I painted the flower on the front using Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Candy Floss, Bubble Gum, Coral and Blood Orange (discontinued, but most similar colour is Claret).

For the background paper I used on the outer box I started by painting a sheet of mixed media paper with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Mermaid, Caribbean Sea, China, Captain Peacock, Limelight and Snowflake using a flat brush.

I added stenciling with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Snowflake. For the big circles I used the PaperArtsy Mini Mask (PM006). The squares were done using a TCW stencil (Mini Mosaic Squares). For the blue dots I used the Dylusions stencil Fresh Dots Small and Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics China. Love that blue color!

I overstamped the background randomly with the small flower from the ETS15 set using Distress Oxide Ink Twisted Citron. During the process of stenciling and stamping I held in mind which part of the paper was going to end up on the front cover. As you can see I indicated it on my underpaper. 

I did the pink spirals using the PaperArtsy stencil by Kim Dellow (PS034). To achieve a bright pink on top of the green/blue background I first sponged with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Snowflake, then with Candy Floss. When using only a small part of a stencil I usually mask off the surrounded areas with tape. This allows me to work quickly without making unwanted marks.

To attach the paper to the outer box I started by applying an even layer of PVA glue on one of the sides of the box. I laid the decorated paper upside down, placed the box on top and scored along the box. Those scored lines makes the turning over of the paper easier. Before moving onto the next side I cut the paper to size. Then I applied glue to the next side of the box, turned the paper over and pressed it on firmly. I continued the same way until all 4 sides were done.

To alter the drawer I measured all sides of the drawer and cut paper to size. I used the beautiful scribble stamps from the ETS14 set to decorate the paper. The stamping was done with Distress Oxide Ink Twisted Citron. I glued everything in place and used a bone folder to  press down the paper and remove air bubbles. Remember to respect drying times as otherwise the drawer could get stuck in the box. 

The black stamping on the outer box was done with stamps from the ETS14 set. For the tiny orange dots I used the PaperArtsy stencil by Clare Lloyd (PS023) and Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Coral.

To create the garland I stamped 8 flowers on a gel print from my stash using Archival Ink Jet Black. After cutting out I glued each colored flower onto a scrap of white paper, sandwiched some black thread in between. I cut off the excess of white paper and attached the flowers onto each other by knotting the black thread, made a loop at both ends.

I stamped 3 flowers to the bottom of the drawer using Archival Ink Jet Black. I glued mini pompons to the centers of the flowers.

I love turning simple matchboxes into little packages. Recycling something that normally ends up in the bin is so fun to do!

I hope you'll give this recycling idea a try. You can decorate those gift boxes in any theme and for any occasion. Think of an anniversary, a wedding, a birth, a retirement ...or just to cheer someone up. The possibilities are endless. In the drawer there is room for money or a gift card. The garland is a cute little extra and makes the gift-box even more festive.
