My Heart {with Eclectica³ Sara Naumann stamps by Gillian Simson}

Hello everyone, Gillian here. I'm delighted to be back this side of the blog again sharing my canvas board heart.

I applied random layers of Hint of Mint and Evergreen from the Lin Brown Ltd Edition Set2 to a 9x12 Canvas Board using a palette knife.

Next I added some Plum, making sure to dry in-between the layers. It looks way to bright at this point so I added some more Hint of Mint to knock it back. I then went on to add some Grunge Paste through the Mini Gothic Romance 6x6 stencil.

I then went over the Grunge Paste areas with some French Roast.

Next I randomly applied some Hint of Mint to a piece of Kraft Cardstock before stamping images from ESN11 using Archival Ink Jet Black .

I then applied layers of  paint to a piece of corrugated card again using a palette knife {love the effect}. 

I then stamped the heart image from ESN11 onto an old book page and the quote onto some Kraft Cardstock before cutting out. I added some Treasure Gold Spanish Topaz to the Grunge Paste textured areas and a little twine inbetween the hearts. Time to put it altogether.

Gillian Simson {Special 10th Birthday Post}

Hi everyone, tonight we have a treat from our own blog administrator, Gillian. She loves the Sara Naumann Journalling stamps, and so she has whipped up a great project combining all sorts of ideas to make this fantastic wall hanging thingy. What do you call it?? I don;t know, but it would look great on MY wall anytime!! Here she is...

A change of role for me tonight on the PaperArtsy blog. I was delighted (obviously) to be included in the 10th Birthday celebrations happening every night throughout the month of August. Anyone who knows me that my most fave substrate to create with is the Paper Mache Hanging Boards. Time to dig out the supplies and go make art!

I started out by covering the hanging board with Chocolate Pudding which I applied with a piece of Cut N Dry foam, I applied two layers to give a deeper coverage, as its a semi-opaque, 2 coats will give better coverage.

I then applied Crackle Glaze, again using Cut N Dry as I wanted the crackle to be finer, if applied with a brush you would achieve a bigger crackle effect.

For my top layer (the one which will crack instantly as the paint dries) I applied Stone Fresco Paint, again dabbing with a piece of Cut N Dry foam. {I forgot to take a pic at this stage ... can you tell I've been out of the crafting loop?}. 

You can see from this picture of the edge of the hanging board the crackle effect once the Stone paint has dried. Remember, when you apply the top coat with foam (vs a brush) you tend to get fine, round even cracks. It pays to have plenty of paint to hand, as you do need to be generous with the coat of paint you apply over the crackle glaze. The thicker the paint, the bigger the cracks. Next I inked up a piece of white, card-coated chipboard with Distress Ink (Vintage Photo).

Before adding the stamping I spritzed some water to give a bleached effect to the background, then dried with a heat gun. {Distress ink is a non-stable ink, which means when you add water drops to it like this , the water instantly dilutes the ink, lifting it off the paper} You achieve a similar effect with any other ink by flicking bleach onto the ink.

I then stamped images from ESN02 and ESN06 using Archival Ink Jet Black, I also used Distress Ink (Walnut Stain) to stamp Mini 56 onto the background, the edges were then inked with the same colour.

Using a manilla tag which was coloured using Distress Ink (Vintage Photo), I then stamped the script image from ESN02 ....

.... which was then torn and the edges inked with Walnut Stain. Next I stamped the saying from ESN07  and cut into seperate words.

I also stamped the saying from ESN02 "The Story Of Me"  using the above inks. And in honour of the PA birthday boy of course I had to use "the" dapper gentleman from the Vintage Collection ID01

Now it's time to start piecing it altogether ....

It's All About Colour ....

Hi everyone Gillian here, I hope you have had the chance to play along this week with our challenge inspired by Linda's creativity. Winners will be announced tomorrow evening!

I'm still knee deep having fun with the uber gorgeous stamps that are the Eclectica3 Collection designed by Sara Naumann. Most of the samples from me seen HERE were grungy/masculine in design so with that in mind I have challenged myself to use some bright colours and do something girly with these stamps. I have two completely different projects to share with you today, one using Fresco Acrylic Paints and the other using Distress Inks .... two completely different looks.

So lets begin. I have used a 7Dots Studio Domestic Goddess 12x12 paper (Overused Tablecloth) to create a scrapbook layout (the style inspired by Anna Dabrowska). Now to choose some colours ... Rusty Rose, Very Bery, Pansy, Pumpkin Soup and Butternut (along with Snowflake to "knock back" and Little Black Dress to add some texture when stamping).

To create a softer look when using the paints I mixed all the paints up in these small spray bottles (consistency approx 50/50 with water).

I have used the Bubbles Stencil to create some dimension to the background.

Then stamping with Little Black Dress to add some texture. The stamp is one of the new releases from JOFY10 set.

Cover the previously stencilled area before adding more layers of stamping and further layers of paint, this time I have just splated/flicked the paint directly from the bottle (have to say I'm completely converted to Pansy *shhhhh don't tell Mrs PaperArtsy*!!

The "bubble wrap" stamp from ESN08 was stamped using Archival Ink (Pale Ochre)

Continuing to build up the layers I then used strips of adhesive canvas which were then stamped using Archival Ink (Jet Black). The stamps are from ESN08

I have used a co-ordinating piece of cardstock from 7dots Studio to stamp all my images onto, most have been inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink around the edges.

Next I sprayed these wooden leaves using Rusty Rose and Pumpkin Soup, dry with heat gun before stamping.

You can see how the addition of Snowflake has knocked back the vibrant colours.

I then attached all the different images using a Tiny Attacher and some wire mesh to add an "industrial" element to the layout.

To finish off I "flicked" some black ink. The "circles" to the bottom left hand side are from Mini 56

Okay moving onto project #2 ....

Another piece this time using a #8 Manilla Tag and Distress Inks (Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean), along with diluted Snowflake and Water.

I love how all the colours of Distress Ink have blended to create even more colours within the tag background .....
