Oct 2025 - With 3 Things - Boxed Birds Nest {by Zoe Hillman}

For this feature on the PaperArtsy Blog 3 identical items are sent to 3 members of the PaperArtsy Blogging team. Typically we will receive a stamp, a stencil and a couple of Fresco Paints.

We have no clue what PaperArtsy HQ is going to send, the whole idea of this challenge is to do something crafty in our personal style with these 3 items. We can incorporate other PA products into the mix if we feel it is necessary.

So let's take a look at what I received from PA HQ ...

Today I've made a boxed birds nest using the Printed Tissue PT11 - Birds, Eclectica Stamp set EGL19 from Gwen Lafleur and Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in Pumice and Coastal. Let's take a closer look...

To start, I glued the Birds Printed Tissue onto a piece of PaperArtsy Smoothy Heavyweight Cardstock, cut to fit inside my vignette box and using a brayer to smooth it as I glued. Sanding is a great way to remove the excess tissue and give a nice clean edge. I then brayered Mattint Ash onto the background and dried. Next I added some Infusions in Sleight Blue to my non stick craft mat, spritzed with water and picked it up with the background by gently taping into the wash. (Please forgive that my non stick craft mat is a hot mess, it's well used).

To finish the background I blended in some walnut stain Distress ink to the edges.

Adding Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics to my vignette box, I was so focussed on what I was doing and forgot to take photos so used a piece of vignette wood to show the step out process (below).

Working in layers and drying between each layer, I covered with a layer of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Pumice. Next using a dry brush method, (adding paint to a dry brush and using kitchen paper to remove most of the paint), added a layer of Coastal. Finally, dry brushing French Roast over the top very lightly. You only want to highlight the wood grain with this layer and not cover the previous layers.

The Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics work really nicely on metal pieces. I covered a Tim Holtz idea-ology pull with Pumice using a sponge and then dry brushed on some Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic French Roast.

Next I added some idea-ology hardware heads to cover the pull handle holes and then glued to the top of my vignette box. I love the weathered finish of the Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics.

To create a birds nest for my vignette box, I took idea-ology tiny eggs and covered with my supplied Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in Coastal and Pumice. Once dry I used a splatter brush to speckle the eggs with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic French Roast.

This gorgeous little birds nest was a treasure I picked up years ago and had been hoarding, it was perfect to add my eggs to, which were hot glued into place.

The birds nest was hot glued into the base of the vignette box with some nesting moss. I added green moss to the top and side also with hot glue.

Using the supplied Gwen Lafleur Eclectica stamp set EGL19, I stamped with Versafine Clair ink and watercoloured the images. Next I fussy cut and mounted onto my background using 3D foam to create layers and give some depth.

You can see the different depths of the stamped images here. I'm not going to lie, the flowers were a fussy cutting challenge, but worth it. All the stamps on this Gwen Lafleur Eclectica set are wonderful, but I'm particularly obsessed with the tape measure and book keeping ephemera stamps.

Oct 2025 - With 3 Things - Paper Bunting {by Floss Nicholls}

For this feature on the PaperArtsy Blog 3 identical items are sent to 3 members of the PaperArtsy Blogging team. Typically we will receive a stamp, a stencil and a couple of Fresco Paints.

So let's take a look at what I received from PA HQ ...

Stamp set EGL19, Pumice and Coastal Fresco finish chalk acrylics and Hot Picks PT11 printed birds tissue paper.

Today I have made a ten triangle string of paper bunting...let's take a closer look...

I think these two colours are now my favourites...they work so beautifully together...let me take you through the steps of what I did...

I used 5 sheets of A4 300gsm white smooth card and lightly drew triangles using the whole width of the card for the length of the triangle and 170mm for the top of the triangle.

Then cut them using my guillotine.

I used the gel plate rather than sponge or paintbrushes to coat the triangles both sides.

I did this because I did not want a 'flat colour but slightly uneven/textured.

Using the bingo board from stamp set EGL19 and Ranger archival black ink I stamped the first triangle.

Using the gorgeous little cluster of star flowers I used my favourite WOW opaque vanilla white embossing powder for a broken background.

Because I wanted to stick to just the two colours PaperArtsy had sent me and the background was already coastal, I decided to mix Coastal and Pumice fresco paints together to paint onto the reverse of the body of the bird on the PT11 bird tissue paper. I had already offered the bird up to the triangle and used a small wet paintbrush to tear the area I had chosen.

I did use Fresco finish Snowflake for the top of the birds head, his chest and belly.

One thing I should have remembered when I was embossing the reverse of the triangle below...lift it off the surface as the heat will reactivate the embossing on the reverse!! It gets stuck to the surface...please don't make the same silly mistake as me! Luckily I was able to carefully remove the paper using a scalpel without damaging the surface :)

I continued to use different stamps from the EGL19 set and birds from the Hot Picks birds tissue...

I tried to combine stamps and tissue on each triangle; I do think the sets work well with each other.

The flip sides...

I thought a natural hessian would compliment both the designs and the colour scheme so measured enough to leave a 50mm gap between the triangles.

I then had to work out what order I wanted to hang them in...believe me I took a while to jiggle them about! LOL!!

I measured the half way line so that I could fold the hessian strip over the triangle equally on both sides

I left 100mm at the end of the line at both ends and joined 750mm of jute/rope so that I had a choice of hanging/fixing options.

I was pleased with how well the hessian suited the design and how sturdy it made it but still allowing it to be very flexible.

I stitched the whole length of hessian to the triangles using a Gutermann thread that matched the Coastal paint.

I hung it up in my workshop...

2024 Topic 6 : Scrapcosy - Mash Up Tags {by Autumn Clark}

Hi everyone! It's Autumn Clark from SewPaperPaint with you today and I am ever so excited to have the chance to play with stamps for the Scrapcosy topic, as you all know how much I adore Raquel and her incredible designs! I chose to do a Mash Up post to show how beautifully Scrapcosy stamps pair with Gwen Lafleur stamps. Both designers have a beautiful illustrative style, Raquel with a more true vintage aesthetic and Gwen leaning toward a more bohemian vibe. Nevertheless, the styles of illustration pair beautifully. My task was made simple, minus the decision on which two stamp sets to marry...

My favorite part of this process was creating my own ephemera from each stamp. I just love how these images can be personalized in any color palette, but ultimately I chose to work in an autumnal scheme, because fall is almost upon us and is most beautiful in the foothills of South Carolina.

I was away from home, so I thought what better time to do a post featuring very few products. I picked a trio of Distress Ink Pads, one bottle of PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylic (Heavy Cream) and just two stamp sets, Scrapcosy stamp set 26 (ESC26) and Gwen Lafleur stamp set 19 (EGL19).

I started by getting inky! I dipped a pair of Bristol panels into Distress Inks in Fired Brick, Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo, repeating the process until I was happy with the color.

I don't know about you, but sometimes just diving in with color seems the best way to kickstart my mojo. Next, I stamped my focal imagery then played around with composition using the actual red rubber stamps as puzzle pieces to determine my layout.

Then I started coloring my focal images to coordinate with my inky backgrounds and began stamping the backgrounds in various colors.

At this point, I was still contemplating our quarterly theme of "Hidden" and decided it would be a lot of fun to let some of these very rich colors and image outlines become hidden or subdued in the background.

I grabbed a bottle of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic in Heavy Cream and brayered lightly over the center of each panel. I just love how the Distress Inks rose to the surface, as shown in the mushroom definition on the left, and the black permanent ink stamping receded, as shown with the birds. This instantly gave the tags a more vintage vibe.

I decided this patch of "free space" would be a great spot to add some journaling. So to carry on with the Hidden Theme, I attached my focal images to smaller inky tags and adhered them with masking tape hinges to the larger tags. It was a great space to incorporate additional stamping.

I used the Scrapcosy text stamps to highlight each mini tag. The collage elements remind me of gathering nature's treasures on a stroll through the forest.

I made one tag flip to the left and the other flip to the right. Do check out the PaperArtsy Instagram page for a reel of these tags in action...

I decided the shadowy birds needed a little oomph, so I fussy cut another colored bird and layered it over to complete the collage I was going for, with the smaller bird facing the "mama bird".

I am looking forward to adding personal writing on these spaces in the future.
